I had an appointment the last week of October 2011 to have my cat spayed at the Normal street location. Initially I was quoted 350.00 for a spay. I opted for the 110.00 dollar spay. That included the spay 50.00, comfort medication 50.00 dollars and 10.00 for the cone. I was told to bring my cat in at 8am which I did but to my dismay the door was locked. I waited a few minutes then knocked no answer. So I called and they answered and I told them that I was standing out front. The woman on the other end of the phone was curt and said shed open the door in a minute. When she did open the door her hair was wet (very unprofessional in my opinion) and her demeanor had not changed with me standing in front of her. I thought to myself...ok so shes having a bad day. I have had bad days, let’s just move on. Now mind you I have never been here before. I had however read up on all the Doctors bios from there website before choosing ABC Vet Hospital at this location and that is what made me decide to choose them. This was not going to be a one time visit for the spay, I was choosing this facility for all 4 of my cats health care needs. I finished checking my cat in and went home. I was instructed to call around 2p to see how my cat was doing. When I did I was again treated with what came across as irritation at my inquiry except this time it was from a different individual and her response put me on alert, not comforting at all. She said "we are still watching her to see if everything is going to be alright, she has not come out of the anesthesia yet". So I waited worried until 3p and called again. Again the bedside manner was as though I was bothering them... and said I could pick her up. At the office all three women working at the reception desk had the same deportment. Rude, cold, bothered. 10 days later I went in to have a snap certificate signed. Its and incentive a kick back to individuals who took in a feral cat and gave it a home. The certificate needs to be signed by the vet and you are then reimbursed for the amount of the spay. I however opted to pay and additional 60.00 dollars on top of that called comfort care for my cat so I paid up front 110.00 dollars. I do not get that back and Im fine with that. But, (AND HERE IS WHERE IT GETS REALLY UNACCEPTABLE) I went in to get it signed, and waited a bit.. the same receptionist was there the one with the wet hair, I asked her to please move it along because now Im late for work, her response was (in a very rude tone) "the Doctor is with a patient right now, a patient that is paying a lot of money" I said I paid a lot of money! Now please interrupt the Doctor I commute to work and Im already late. So people there you have it. My initial inward thoughts were I was being treated like this because I did not opt for the 350.00 spay and obviously I was correct. Money talks here.. But it is very short sighted of them since I was choosing them for all four of my cat’s health care needs. Bottom line do not take your pet here.

ABC is the best, most well-rounded vet facility in San Diego. I first discovered ABC when it was time to get my puppy spayed and I was quoted by my original vet $400 (which included a puppy package discount.) I thought that was a little outrageous and decided to explore my options before taking the plunge. I looked at a few facilities before stumbling upon ABC. ABC had three locations for me to choose from. I ended up choosing the Kearny Mesa location and paying less than half of what I would have payed at my old vet for my dogs spay. It also included an e-collar, go home medication, and a nail trim! Not only are the prices great, but the facility is spacious and extremely clean. Also, the staff is helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They answered all of my questions and went even further by educating me on how I can help keep my puppy healthy! They really take the time to build a relationship with the clients and patients. That visit was so wonderful that I immediately transferred my puppys records over and keep taking her there and when I got a new cat I set him up there as well. I feel like everyone at ABC cares about my pets well being and love seeing them when they come in. I never feel ripped off and always feel well informed when I visit, it is great! For new clients, they even have a free exam coupon on their website!

We have been taking our pets to ABC in Hillcrest for a number of years now, and Julie and Dr Heidt have seen us through both the highs and lows of having four legged loved ones in our family. Ill admit, I tried another vet once (a snazzy coupon/discount swayed me), and while my experience there was not awful, it just didnt leave a lasting impression on me like ABC SD did. Julie, Dr Heidt and all the gang there are consistently friendly, compassionate, full of helpful information, and exceptionally patient with both animals and humans. Having them there for us when we lost both a dog and a cat within a short period of time, and seeing their compassion for us and our pets is what made the most lasting impression on our family. Even though we moved to North County, today we brought our new puppy there for her first visit. Someone asked why we dont just go to a vet closer to home, but I never had a doubt about who her vet would be. When youve found such a stellar team, why should you go anywhere else!!!

Okay staff, but super expensive. Very persistent on getting you to come back again. I think at times they can be pretty passive aggressive. They kept saying that my cats nails were too long, so I said Ill do it when I get home. ($ 15 for nail trimming). So throughout my visit they kept asking and they guy asked me in the lobby again. Which I said no to again. When I had to pay, the assistant said they did it anyway but clearly was annoyed by it. I was discussing with another client in the lobby about her visit and she stated that shes paid about 1,000 just for a full check up and had to pay $160 for flea medication. Just for the examination alone its $39 plus bio-hazard fee $4 So without them resolving anything your looking at $43 to start. They can be very pleasant and they do seem to care but maybe theres other places to look at?

We have been taking our dogs here for a few years years now and have always received excellent service and care from Dr. Weber and his staff. We had one dog who was a terror and she was always treated with gentleness. She was bitten by a rattlesnake a few years back and she never recovered from that. After a year or two she started losing functions of her hind legs and was unable to stand well. Dr Weber gave us some choices but none that would cure her and we couldnt bear to watch her suffer any longer so we decided to put her down. I have never seen such a kind and loving group of staff as well as Dr. Weber who really comforted me at this very sad time. They followed up with phone calls and even took the time to send me a beautiful card with messages from everyone. My experience was one I will never forget...I love this place.
