We moved to this hospital from Durango Animal Hospital because we were told wed get more personalized service from here. Since moving to this hospital, my experience is mixed. Our first appointment, we made for Dr. Bivens, as he was the physician our former vet referred us to. In spite of making our appointment with Dr. Bivens, we did not end up seeing Dr. Bivens. They just gave us to a random vet. No biggie. Simple mix up or perhaps I wasnt clear that we wanted the service that came recommended to us. Ill be more clear next time. The second appointment I made for Dr. Bivens ended up taking an entire hour. I brought my dog in for a vaccine and quick skin check as she had been scratching a bit too often. Like human doctor services, a nurse type comes in first to ask questions and then takes my dog in the back so the doctor can see her. Then after a long wait, dog and doctor return to have a conversation. This was my first meet with Dr. Bivens. Hes nice and takes his time answering my questions, and seems knowledgeable. Because he takes his time, I assume that this is where the long waits come in. People asking questions to the doctor that cant be calculated when scheduling appointments. Understandable. Today, I brought my dog back for a recheck. Similar procedure. Only this time, I am waiting 40 minutes between my dog being taken by the nurse and then being reunited with doctor and dog. And only after I went to the front desk to ask what the damn hold up was. Oddly, the doctor comes in with a nurse assistant or someone, as he never introduces her to me, and she never hands the leash for my dog over to me until I ask her. She just stands there looking at my dog and holding the leash as if to keep my dog put. From who or where was a mystery. It was a little bizarre. Suffice to say, Im conflicted. Durango Animal Hospital was super busy and had long wait times as well, but they usually kept you with your dog until someone could provide the immediate quick care you were there for. Theyd take them back to be weighed, given vaccines, and then brought back to you with doctor shortly behind to address any questions. This place seems to take your dog into a holding area for an indeterminate amount of time and leaves you to trust that what youre asking them to look at, they will look at. Durango would address those concerns in the exam room with you, even administering vaccines in exam rooms so you werent wondering what your dog was doing or if they were the ones howling in the back. I dont feel this is any more personalized care than Durango Animal Hospital. And Im wondering if this is how they are on visit three of a new customer who was referred to them, then how are they going to be years down the road? I will say this place is kept clean! And I mean CLEAN! You walk in and smell that someone has just cleaned it. Floors are cleaned, seat cushions cleaned. The place looks and smells clean, and I wouldnt be surprised if after every room is emptied someone goes in and does a quick mop and wipe of the room. Both times Ive been here, Ive been assured that the facilities were well maintained. Durango Animal Hospital was often overcrowded with people waiting in the waiting area and cleaning felt lax there.

SUCH A SHAME...I loved this animal hospital when I had first taken my pup for his shots and deworming. We had a great experience during our first visit, everyone loved on our dog (who was little at the time) and treated us amazingly! We saw the woman vet and she was THE BEST!! Well... this last visit didnt go so well. Staff in front was nasty and short. The tech that saw us was wonderful, but then in comes Dr Bivens. I had some questions about feeding him fresh, home cooked food, along with some dry food in the afternoon. He literally talked to me like I was a complete moron (this is my first pup and I thought AND READ ONLINE that cooking fresh would be better for him). So, he goes on making me feel like the dumbest person in the world. I literally had an anxiety attack in the car after the last visit with this unprofessional, insensitive "vet". He goes on to tell me to change him to science diet, and says he would "give" me a small bag. What would that mean to you?? I get rang up for close to $100 for all the extra fecal tests and junk (which I did not request) and after all the crap I dealt with in the back, only to have the horribly rude receptionist say in a snooty manner, "Oh, we didnt ring you up for you food as well." Oh, you mean this small bag the doc just said he was giving me like it was a gift. Smh. Ok, no thanks. Keep your $40 small bag of food and Ill go buy it for a fraction of the price at the store. The nerve... I have no clue why they kept my scared pup in the back for about 20 minutes, only to bring him back in the room and give him the shots in front of us. Why did they keep him so long and not do that in the back like last time. They also did one up his nose, and literally he did it so sloppily, the entire vile spilled mostly on the ground... YEP! Thats a professional right.. I wanted to tell him to do it again because he basically didnt get it done at all. I paid $10 for a puddle on their ground.. After leaving, I found one of the idiots that work theres check on the ground outside. Signed and EVERYTHING, just in the lot. I walk up and knock on the door, to see them roll their eyes that I was bothering them while they were closing. No thank you or anything. I guess I shouldve just chucked it in the trash, because it wasnt appreciated. It sucks, but after this visit, I dont know if I will be returning to this place again. I just wanted everyone to know how awful Dr Bivens was and how much he had made me feel embarrassed when I thought I was doing right by my pup. Instead I was met with his crappy, impatient attitude....

We are newer to the southwest area and had been looking for a vet closer to us, as our long time vet is in North LV. We has a scare with my oldest boy and called so many places , but finally settled on South Buffalo. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how beautiful and clean the reception area was and we were greeted by the 2 girls up front and they were amazing. They took my boy Bernie Mac to the back right away and put him on oxygen, while we took care of registering him. Then we were brought back to a room. Although it took a while for the doctor to come talk to us and tell us what was going on, (which we found out was because he was on oxygen and being observed) when he did, he was amazing. Dr. Bivens was thorough and so knowledgeable. I was thrilled to know he had experience with essential oils as he smelled then on Bernie and me and gave me the go ahead to keep using them to help with his breathing and also to calm him. After all was said and done Bernie got to come home with some meds for his new diagnose of Congestive Heart Failure. The discharge nurse was awesome also, she explained everything to us and even showed us how to give his meds in a pill pocket as we never had done that before, and so he went home with meds on board. I cant say enough about how great everyone we dealt with was! Dr. Bivens also told us that if anything were to happen in the night , to call him and he would meet us at the office, get him on oxygen and stable and then transfer to the emergency hospital. This gave us peace of mind. Thank God Bernie was able to calm down and finally sleep at around midnight and did good last night. We are so thankful for everything. And I am confident that we will get Bernie on a new regimen and ensure his last years will be as comfortable as possible. We will follow up with Dr. Bivens in 10 days.Thank you South Buffalo! If you live in this area, I highly recommend them!
