This location is horrible!! Ive been to 3 other ones (all in northern VA) the PA that saw me was sitting there on his iPhone for a good 20min before he came into my room. (This doesnt include the 1hr that I waited in the room and the 15 min I spent in the waiting room) if youve ever watched Nurse Jackie...this guy is exactly like Doctor cooper. To be fair idk if he was looking up information on how to treat an illness on his phone(because he definitely didnt know how to treat mine he must have been googling how to treat other people) it was 9:30 pm and I had an abcess in my mouth. The PA (lets call him Dr.cooper just for laughs) came in and told me he didnt feel commode table prescribing me any antibiotics because of my clyndamiacin allergy(I can take penicillin or amoxicillin) or pain meds because of my Tylenol 3 allergy. My face was golf ball size swollen and I hadnt slept in two nights. I sat there for a total of two hours just to be told to take Motrin and follow up with my dentist in the morning. I then told Dr.cooper(not his real name) that my dentist was in Maui and when I called him on his personal cell phone and told him about my face he said to go straight to urgent care for antibiotics and pain meds...that were not prescribed to me by the PA here. When I conveyed this information to him he said "well Im sorry you dont agree with my diagnosis if you feel like its a real emergency you can go to the Princess Anne ER down the street" I told him and I quote " if I didnt think it was an emergency and if I wasnt in severe pain and THIS swollen, I wouldnt be here in an urgent care with my 3month old son risking him getting sick. This is an emergency." He then said to me....and once again I quote" well this isnt an emergency room, its a walk in clinic" so I walked right out. I got a bill for the "Doctor fees" for $136.89 2weeks later for this stupid PA to tell me that he wasnt an emergency Doctor. I drove 15min to a different location made it there before they closed and got what I needed from a real doctor not a PA at their kempsville location. This Doctor Drained my abcess and I felt 100% better within 5min. I had some discomfort so he prescribed me Ultram and Augmentin for my infection!! Bottom line DO NOT GO HERE!!! Oh not to mention all of the bathrooms were out of order even the staff bathrooms while I was there. All I could hear the whole time was the staff complaining and some woman was there in regular clothes complaining about how she had to leave a baby shower to come reset the EKG machines because they were almost expired an up for inspection. Take the extra time and drive some where else. I can tell you for certain I was not the only one who left upset that day. There were several patients who needed urine samples and were told their bathrooms didnt work and they needed to go to the hospital for a simple urine test!! I also heard the staff say it was the 4th time that week they had been without running water in their restrooms!!

While vacationing in Virginia Beach, my daughter became ill with a fever, nausea/vomiting and diarrhea. I brought her to Patient First and was very impressed with the state of the art facility. The office staff was friendly and helpful. She was given a strep test and urinalysis. She was "seen" by Dr. Richard Hoffman. Without even physically examining her; no checking ears, nose or throat, heartbeat, all the routine elements one expects upon a visit to the doctor, he diagnosed her with a kidney infection based on the results of the urinalysis. I even had to ask him if he wanted to knock on her kidney area like what I have seen done in the past seeing that she has a history of UTIs and kidney infections. He reluctantly complied and said all was fine. He gave us a RX for Bactrum and sent us on our way assuring us she would be better by the next day. Two days later, my daughter is not feeling better and is in fact, much worse. She has severe diarrhea and vomiting along with extreme pain in her lower abdomen and back. She could barely stand up straight let alone walk for any distance. We head back to Patient First where they did another urinalysis. Dr. Hoffman is again our doctor. Again, no examination for my daughter. Just him standing in the doorway looking on the computer at the results of the urine test. He stated that the test showed that the infection was clearing up and any symptoms she was having were a delayed reaction to the kidney infection. We again explained to him that she was now having severe pain in her abdomen and back. I again had to ask him to actually feel her belly to check for any problems. He reluctantly complied with one hand the other in his pocket and declared that she was fine. Told us that since we would be driving back home soon, he would give her some narcotics for the pain so she could make it through the drive. We declined and left hoping that she would feel better. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Her condition continued to deteriorate throughout the night and into the next morning which resulted in us taking her to the Sentara Virginia Beach ER. After numerous tests and doctors that actually physically examined her, it was determined that her gall bladder was not functioning correctly causing her to develop acute pancreatitis which was more than likely caused from the Bactrum. She spent three days in the hospital and I am happy to report that she received excellent care and is now recovering at home. Patient First from the outside looks great, but the care my daughter received from Dr. Hoffman was beyond substandard and literally put her life at risk!

Took my girlfriend here without health insurance due to a cyst in her hand that was causing her IMMENSE pain. We called prior to going, explained the situation in detail, and asked if they could mend her condition. We were told that they absolutely could. We arrived at the doctor THE SAME DAY and were told by the nurse practitioner( you know because god forbid she be allowed to see an actual PHYSICIAN) that there was absolutely nothing they could do, and basically told us to figure something out on our own. No examination of the hand, no attempt to help us in any way, just blew us off as if we were two stupid teenagers. Disgusting treatment, Patient First and most of all the F.N.P who treated us as if we didnt matter should be ashamed of themselves. We were still charged for the visit, which is ridiculous considering they did ABSOLUTELY nothing for her, and now she has less money than before and still no remedy for her pain. This is legitimately disgusting and makes me sick. We will not be going to this Patient First ever again, and I plan on lodging a formal complaint with the Virginia Medical Board against both this specific Patient First and the Practitioner. They are thieves and liars.

I went in with a rash that was spreading. The doctor stated scabies in a definitive way. He did no scraping of the skin. So we were given treatment for myself and 2 kids. I went to the dermatologist a week later as the problem persisted and no one that I had been in contact with had been presenting with symptoms. He did a scraping and determined a negative on scabies and assessed the situation as hives and volatile reactions to bug bites. The significance of this is that I am a massage therapist. I also had let him know this. I had to cancel all my clients for that week, and incurred additional expenses to fix his diagnosis as well as doing laundry and maintaining of the house. I lost $1500 between income and expenses over his false diagnosis. The failure to do a skin scraping resulted in this fiasco. These are not difficult to do and the results can be seen immediately. Minimal medical training would be all that is needed. This was catastrophic to my budget as a single parent who lost their livelihood for the duration. Some people should not be allowed to practice medicine or call themselves doctors.
