Just moved to NYC. I have mainly experience with PA hospitals. Even the worst in my area that I avoid is amazing in comparison to this one. So small they dont have room for anyone. I came in for a very painful uti and they made me sit on a metal chair as they loaded me up with drugs. The drug ciprofloxacin is in the chemotherapy family drugs known as Fluoroquinolones. It causes massive side effects and especially your joints. Im worse off than I was before hand Im hurting all over. I would have preferred a regular antibiotic. The staff either couldnt or wouldnt explain the side effects when I asked them which is EXTREMELY unprofessional. Belittling me with my questions. I was so messed up that my kidneys were already hurting from the UTI I really couldnt get comfortable on this terrible metal chair amongst a sea of other people with IV fluids pumping into me. There was some awful old man yelling about just to be disruptive. Later I had another experience being here and that was something stupid on my own behalf. I accidentally ingested my vape liquid because my friend had put my vape juice back in my bag without telling me where my cbd oil to help with the pain caused by the med that they gave me. Well I grabbed the wrong glass bottle in the dark half awake almost sleep walking realizing what just happened. Drinking nicotine is DANGEROUS. They wouldnt give me any care and said that there was nothing that they could do. I knew I was in a bad situation but I decided to go to the other hospital the same night as I was developing worse symptoms (Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center) and they treated me MUCH BETTER. They took it more seriously, gave me an IV drip to help flush out the nicotine, said that if it came to it they would pump my stomach and were willing to try other things. In the end I vomited a lot and it was horrible and miserable but I ended up being okay, but I had toxicologist look at me, multiple nurses and doctors which is what you want when something bad happens you want to be taken seriously and you want someone with a professional attitude checking your family and friends.

Unfortunately, I too, found myself sitting in the Emergency Room one evening. My dissatisfaction started when I walked in the door, Ive never been in an ER that didnt assess the patient first ... instead I was asked about my drivers license, my insurance card, and then asked what was wrong with me. Then I waited, in severe pain ... so much pain that I started blacking out. After sitting for about 45 minutes, the triage nurse called me to assess my condition (she was speedy with getting me back, and showed empathy). After getting back the doctor came right over to assess my condition. My pain was under control within 5 minutes of seeing him. SOME of the nursing staff leave a lot to be be desired, and simply put ... they just dont care -- some people shouldnt be in the medical field, just like some people shouldnt be in sales. I realize that there is a process to getting the sick people of the community the help they need, and Im grateful to have access to the medical help that I needed --hospital beds arent always available so we have to wait, things could be worse ... there could be no hospital (many people dont pay their bill). How can you expect luxury when many just dont even bother to pay. Health Care isnt free, and you should thank your God someone is willing to take care of you. Now, I am giving three stars because administration needs to reassess how patients are checked in, they need to be seen by a qualified professional (triaged) FIRST; because training and policy need to be re-instilled in some of the staff; and finally, as a guest of this hospital I, basically, was made to feel like a raccoon that got into a garbage can ... and thats not right. Kudos to the ER doc. and the few good nurses that DID care, and were professional about my situation.

If i could give a negative value for stars I would. My wife was taken here by ambulance yesterday and the experience was terrible. Terrible is a significant understatement. She got there and waited on a stretcher for 45 minutes before being given a bed. Keep in mind shes in the ER for suspected concussion and/or intracranial bleeding. Once in bed, it took another hour to even get an IV. She was scheduled for a CT scan, so they were only able to give her Tylenol, which took about 45 minutes to get to her. The wait for the scan was another 3 hours by the way. They also said she was going to be given nausea meds. Youd think about another hour considering the pervious care given, right? Wrong! It took 5 HOURS of me complaining about it to get it to her. In between this, it was dinner time, they brought her food with milk. I told the nurse she was lactose intolerant, and she never came back with juice or water. After this, security even came in and told me to leave and go to the waiting roomy because they werent allowing visitors. Ive been with her for hours. There were other visitors and I was the only one to leave Okay so her test results finally come back and nothing serious was reported, so she was discharged with a prescription for the pain. Everything is over now. Ill pick up her prescription tomorrow. Im sitting in the pharmacy right now as I write this. THE HOSPITAL HAD NO RECORD OF ANY PRESCRIPTION. The hospital even called the doctor from last night and said she didnt prescribe anything. ARE YOU JOKING??? Never again will I consider this "hospital." It was the first and last time. Take it from me. Go elsewhere for your care.

Depending on the emergency, I would only go back because, here around Astoria, its the only & closest ER. Been to the ER, in the past year, 3x, with only once (brought by ambulance was decent. The other 2times it was disgraceful. Once there were patients lining up in the hallways, including me. The last time I made the doctor discharge me (against med advice) due to being totally ignored by him. I found out the results of a CATscan that I took by overhearing the doctor tell my daughter, not me!!, the results when she asked if she could buy something for me to eat. Hed come over about 90 minutes later and talk to me, when another doctor heard me talking on the phone. By leaving I was also stopping the doc from admitting me to the hospital. I did complain to the hospital Asst Director and no response back. Just like the ER doctors: no "were waiting on such and such". Just leave me alone. The last hour or so even nurses didnt come by to ask how I was doing. There is a big construction going on at the hospital, to be fair, mostly (of my understanding) involving the ER area. This seems to be about 3-4 years too late. As stated, being there was totally absurd. Outside of the ER, I find the people working in radiology very friendly and helpful; the one time I was on the floor I had no real complaints. It is unfortunate that the rest of the hospital is brought down by the experiences in the ER and the total disreagard by doctors and administration. However, rating just the ER, I would have given it 1 star... at the most.
