well i was there for 5 months last year and i was segregated from general population for 3and a half out for the 5 months and i was miserable . The doctors didnt care about my input on my medication or how i felt about them they just said when i tried to talk to them about it u are med seeking. Also Doctor David Dowed try to tell me i was gay and I was not ,also the bathrooms are very dirty . O i almost forgot if u do get put on precautions you most likely will never get off until u get discharged and u cant go on the little outings they go on. I must also say Doctor Val is a idiot even to the medical world she should not be practicing in a childrens hospital she is inconsiderate and rude to anyone that has the gut to stand up to her , she also lies and tells you half truths. By the way if you are not in the RTC program you will not see a psychiatrist you will see a therapist and patricians . So they have a one size fits all psych meds outlook .

My experience with Cumberland was at most mediocre. The front office staff and managing doctor are very professional and responsive. The front office facilities are very nice and clean. However, the same cannot be said for the patient quarters. The patient rooms, common areas, and bathrooms are dirty, disorganized, and not maintained. The staff caring for the patients on a daily basis are unprofessional to family members and patients. Safety of the patients is not a number one priority in my opinion. Food was decent and well portioned. I would not recommend this center for TBI treatment. Seems to be an add on service. While the doctors and therapists may be trained the nursing staff is not. Since these are the people who have the most contact with the patients I believe they should have considerable training in all the different type of patients they will be interacting with. In my opinion that is not the case at this center.

If only I could give this place a zero! I have personal experience here, among some of the things I saw where staff neglect, fecal matter on the walls of the restroom that remained there for days, suicide, suicide attempts from patients misery and hopelessness, poor medical attention (no emergency service) and as a patient there, I was prescribed the wrong medication, and even accidentally given other paitens medication on multiple occasions. I wake up in the middle of the night screaming from nightmares caused by that place sometimes, I constantly felt unsafe inside of the facility and my family could barley come to my unit due to the same reasons. Not a single patient I knew was happy with their experience. I hope that no one ever has to be sent here again one day, please, if you are considering sending your child here, there are many MANY other, much better hospitalization options to look at.

I have had the pleasure of working with the Admissions Department at Cumberland Hospital for the past 4 years. We have provided treatment to some of the most challenging and complex co-occurring medical and psychiatric patients that have exhausted all of their local options for care. I continue to receive complimentary feedback from both parents and referral sources concerning the positive outcomes of their children and patients that are admitted. The children also say nice things about their caretakers at Cumberland Hospital. If interested, I would be happy to provide you with family contacts that can discuss first hand their experiences following their childs hospitalization with us. Feel free to contact me....Alan T

Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents has been very helpful in the care of our patients with brain injuries and associated neurocognitive and neurobehavioral difficulties as well as our patients that have been struggling with chronic disease management because of associated behavioral and psychiatric difficulties. Cumberland provides the comprehensive inpatient treatment services that these children require. Cumberland also provides detailed aftercare plans. Our patients and their families have provided positive reviews of their experience at Cumberland. I think that we are fortunate to have a facility like Cumberland in our area.

My grandson just got out. He is non verbal and was always cut and scraped and bruised. They managed to lose 1 brand new coat and two pair of shoes..how does that happen. And by the way when asked about the injuries the answer was always the Sam ....WE DONT KNOW.. Mmmmmmm fishy! Also would like to know why the seam as been cut out of the backside of all of his pants. The butt in ALL of his pants was cut wide open. New pants!!! A jumpsuit he had been put in that was 3 sizes bigger than he looked as though it had been through a grinder. He was literally ripped out of that. I dont know who is doing what at Cumberland but I will find out.

The wrost one my son went their due to because of behavioral issues and diabetes the doctors there seem like they have no idea what they are talking about their has been several thing that he came with went missing they treated him unfairly we pulled him out due to because every time we visited him his behavior seem to get wrost the therapist there refused to work with him they prefer to tell him that he was wrong and he should just learn to listen rather then yelling at the staff it was very inappropriate what the staff was doing their they need to be shut done

My wife and I have had a terrific ongoing and supportive dialogue with their new patient intake representative, Alan Tager. Mr. Tager is a font of knowledge and encouragement, regarding outpatient programs, admission criteria, and has a genuine passion for T1d struggling teens. He seems to index job satisfaction to helping T1ds adolescents get better! We found Mr. Tager highly accessible and an even higher desire to be useful. What more can one ask.

Cumberland Hospital is the best thing that could have happened to us. They didnt just care about my child; the treated my child and me like family. I could call any time of the day or night and staff on the unit would tell me how my son was doing and how his day was going. They were a supportive community and like a family. We didnt just get better, we learned to be better as a family.
