DO NOT bring your pet here under any circumstances. If this sounds overblown please read the rest of my review to understand why I say that. I visited the East Harlem Banfield a few days ago when my cat had gotten let outside and was attacked by stray cats. She was very much in pain and refused to move her tail so it was limp behind her when she did try to walk. Since I had always used Banfield in another state where I used to live it seemed logical to bring her to one. The initial check up by the nurse (?) was fine, but when the actual vet on staff, Miu Douglas, came in things took a very negative turn. Without so much as getting within two feet of my cat, let alone actually examining her, she was intensely insistent that the tail simply must be dead because it was lying limp. Her professional test for this was to simply pinch the end of the tail which supposedly proved outright that the tail was actually dead and the only choice of amputation or death. I naturally became very overwhelmed by the information and instead of trying to be sympathetic or helpful she continued to batter me with how urgently the tail had to come off and how she can do the surgery right now and waiting any longer would be inhumane, etc. At this point remember she had still not actually examined my cat, other than feeling her belly. She tells me it will cost $1000 even though shes giving me a break from the usual $1500. I tell her I need time to think and she continues to come down on me about doing it now. I begin to get suspicious of her intentions at this point and question her credentials. She gets on the defensive quickly and tells me to call someone if I need to and leaves the room. At this point I decide a second opinion is the better call. Fast forward to another nearby vet. I tell her the whole story and she remarks how shes not surprised given how many other people come to her from this Banfield complaining of similar treatment. After a real exam she determines the tail wound has simply inflamed the tissue hence the lack of movement and reaction to pain. She gives my cat an anti-inflammatory and prescribes some pain meds and antibiotics and sends us on our way. Not 6-7 hours later my cat had mobility and feeling back in her supposedly dead tail. Unbelievable. I walk out with less than a 1/4 of what I would have paid for that urgent surgery with a happier, healthier pet. Long story short, Miu Douglas is as greedy and incompetent as they come and will clearly do anything she can to take advantage of you at the expense of your pet.

We have been to three Banfield hospitals around this region and by far this location is the best. Max is large and muscular so he is often misunderstood, and this was the first time where staff members were not scared or intimidated by his size. They were very careful with him as if he was their own, and now even nutty Max likes coming here! Their entire team got to know him from head to tail after just a few visits. The male nurse is very reassuring and provides us with a lot of helpful tips to prevent future problems. Dr. Douglas tells us exactly how Max will react to what is being done and is spot on. They have clear procedures for how things are done, and have repeatedly correctly diagnosed and treated our pet, better than some of the allegedly best vets in the city. What I especially appreciate is they are conscious of the fact that we were working class people who do not have unlimited funds. They will communicate with me at all times to let us know what is going on. We have total confidence in this clinic because they know what they are doing and they actually care.

You must visit Dr. M. Douglas at Banfield in East Harlem NY. For years I went to Banfield in Woodbridge NJ for my dogs care. I was so elated to find Dr. Douglas. We had her over a year and in that time, she increased the quality of life for my 12 year old dog. She removed a cancerous tumor from her as well. I was so upset when I found out she was transferred to East Harlem. I had to follow her there. The facility is very clean, organized and most importantly, has Dr. Douglas on staff. From the first time I met her over the phone, I felt she cared about my dogs. I knew when I dropped my dog off for surgery, she was in good hands. I would recommend her to any pet owner. She thinks outside the box, is proactive, doesnt push unnecessary tests or procedures, returns my calls, calls me to discuss tests results, and truly cares about the well being of my dogs. It doesnt get any better than Dr. Douglas!!

How can I describe Dr. Miu Douglas, most deffenitly one of the most outstanding doctors I have ever taken my animals to. Dr. Douglas has never given me any outlandish options(unless it is a matter of life and death) without giving me several options prior to something extreme. I drive from Linden,NJ (which for you non New Yorkers, is about an hour trip) to East Harlem to have her and only her see my pets. There are 6 Banfields I could go to before crossing the GWB. Obviously the woman practices quality medicine, or else I would not drive so far. I think anyone who reads this review should reconsider any choices of not going to Banfield. I would not hesitate to continue to bring my "fur" children to Dr. Douglas.

These folks are seriously the best. The entire staff are all kind, sweet, caring, knowledgable and capable. I have been coming to them for over 4 years and honestly I cannot say enough good things about them on all fronts. Excellent communication, even when theyre slammed/busy. I have the health plan and it has saved me from there start. Additionally the preventative care and yearly comprehensive exams are excellent. Considering this is NYC the prices are very reasonable.
