I am disappointed with Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital, especially after the positive reviews I read before I chose them as my vet. The building is nice and new and clean, and I think the techs are great, but Im unhappy with the veterinary services, particularly the vets attitudes toward my pets. Long version: My first visit was a general wellness exam for my cat. He is super friendly, but was scared and hissed/squirmed when getting his temperature taken, getting microchipped, and other uncomfortable things. The veterinarian acted like this was extremely unusual, to the point of making me feel really bad about it. I have a hard time believing that my cat is the only cat that ever hisses at the vet. I brushed this off, but unfortunately my experiences havent improved. Ive also taken my rescue dog to SVH. His first visit went well, but on the second visit the vet (not the same as the vet who saw my cat) took a phone call and left us waiting in the exam room for a very long time. Thats not the kind of thing Id normally complain about, but it wasnt just me waiting, it was my dog too-- and he got bored and then very antsy and nervous. This resulted in him snapping at one point during his exam. The vet muzzled him after that so she could safely administer his booster shots. I have no problem with that, but she also started making me feel bad about my dogs behavior and saying things like "Ooh, we wouldnt want to have to label him in his chart as a Dangerous Dog, would we?" Again, the vet acted like this was very unusual and made me feel like the only person in the world with a "badly-behaved" dog. She showed NO understanding of fear or dog behavior in general. Personally, I expect my vet to have some general behavioral knowledge if theyre going to be handling my pets for anything other than surgery! The tech, in contrast, understood that my dog was scared and felt bad for him, rather than acting like he was just "bad." (For the record, my dog is a 21 lb. sheltie mix... I would hate to see what they would say about a snappy pittie or other "scary" breed!) I told my dog trainer about this visit and she thought it was ridiculous. She recommended her own vet, where they pay attention to dogs body language and do simple-but-helpful things like take quick breaks if they are becoming agitated. Thats a big change from my experience! Lastly, I dont think that the continuity of care is that great at SVH. My dog saw one vet for itching, and when I went back for a follow-up he was seen by another vet who took a completely different approach. She even noticed things that the first vet either ignored or missed. All in all, I wouldnt recommend this clinic, at least not the doctors that I saw. Im happy for everybody whos had great experiences, but if youre considering taking a pet here for the first time, you may want to reconsider.

This is in reference to a review posted by Cari Armel, I could not disagree with her more. I have been a client with this establishment for 40 years and have always received excellent care and service for my pets by all vets, especially Dr. Mincey. Dr. Krystal Mincey, is very thorough and is always kind and patient with my animals; even the one that does not like going to the vet and is somewhat nasty. Any other vet would probably refuse to see her but not Dr. Mincey, always there when I need her. They are often booked but she always works me in when I need her and even goes as far as calling and checking on my animals on her own time....ie when she is not working. She also takes care of my daughters animals and other family members in this area, and have recommended her to all of my friends. And for this individual to say she is money hungry is appalling.....she does not set the fees she is only doing her job. And then to say she is mean, she is the kindest and most caring young lady I have ever met. Im not her Mom but those words are harsh and hurtful and for anyone reading this I assure you that that is not a good description of my vet. My daughter is a nurse and heath care is expensive. I know this first hand so please dont take your frustrations out on those who are trying to help; especially a young lady that often stays after hour and goes above and beyond for our communities animals. And then to say you dont know how she got through vet school.....educate yourself and see how hard it is to even get into Veterinary School.....you have to be very intelligent and at the top of your game and Dr. Mincey, even as a young vet displays all the necessary characteristic. One last thing, as for the reputation of Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital, in my opinion, Dr. Krystal Mincey is an asset to the practice.

Our dog " Buddy", which is a dachshund had an injury to his back a few years ago. This particular morning, we woke up and he couldnt walk. We made a appointment and headed to the vet. Dr. Krystal explained to us the option that we could take. Dr. Krystal listen to our concerns, and we came up with a plan together to help Buddy. This was a hard few weeks for us, but the session of laser treatment as well as limiting his ability to jump off the sofa, and run up and down stairs was great. I know when were a bunch of overprotected parents, but Dr. Krystal was with us every step of the way going above, and beyond the call of duty. We appreciate the positive attitude, words of encouragement, and understanding. She truly loves the animals that she enacts with, and treats everyone like family. This is not a trait that is learned in veterinary school, but someone that is born with compassion in there heart. Its truly a blessing to have such a wonderful young woman as a vet at the Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital. The staff is absolutely wonderful as well. Buddy is back to his normal self, and I thank Dr. Krystal and staff for the wonderful job that they had done to help him.

My experiences with this vet were horrendous! I have had pets my entire life and I have never had such a horrible experience! Save yourself the anger and angst, do not bring your precious ones here! They took advantage of my extreme grief (financially) when my dog had to be put down, and they were so rough and cruel with my new puppy that she refused to step into a vet office until I found a very, gentle and kind practitioner who could coax my young dog back into a vet office. They abused my puppy and then told me that she had behavioral problems and would need a special trainer. That was ridiculous! Our black lab is four years old now and is just perfect in her behavior, but I am the only one who can groomer her or clip her nails because of how badly they frightened her at that vet office when they tried to clip her nails. To this day, she will not step foot (literally) into a groomer or allow the vet to clip her nails.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Dr. Krystal Mincey is the worst and most unprofessional doctor I have ever met. How she got through vet school amazes me. I could hear everything through the walls of this building and I heard her talking about how rude my mother was and how she didnt want to treat her animal, little does she know I wouldnt let her touch my animal even if she was the last vet in the world. This "vet" is money hungry and not a genuine person. She is ruining the reputation of this clinic that Ive gone to for many years. Im not going to ever step foot in this hospital again and I will suggest to everyone I know not to either. It is because of her that myself and my family will not be coming to this practice any longer because of how much she belittled us. I would seriously evaluate her in regards to her social interactions with the public. Especially in regards to the pets of many families.
