For anyone who has ever had a pet you know that they are your babies. I had a wonderful cat and I made the mistake of taking her to Massanutten Animal Clinic. My cat was going to have a routine teeth cleaning and I asked the vet to do some blood work on her because she hadnt been acting right. Turns out she had kidney failure (this was around the time that all the pet food was being recalled so its entirely possible that that was what lead to this because she was always very healthy). Massanutten Animal Clinic wanted to treat her and of course I agreed. They said that flushing her with fluids would help her kidneys, when I went to visit her later in the day she was lethargic and bloated. Sacks of fluid hung off of her. Massanutten Animal Clinic wanted to keep her through the weekend to do blood work and continue to give her fluids. Over the weekend they called to tell me that the tests they had run showed that she was getting better. On Monday I came in to visit to find that my cat had taken a turn for the worst. When I asked to review the numbers from her blood tests turns out they had lied to me, she had actually gotten worse. An honest mistake, maybe, but Ive babysat kids in elementary school who have a better concept of which number is bigger. Disgusted with what they had done to my cat and charged me for it (double on weekends!) I took my cat home to say goodbye to her before I had to put her down. When I took her to Massanutten Animal Clinic she was being picky about her food. 4 days later I get her home and she cant move, shes bloated with all the fluids that Massanutten Animal Clinic said would be necessary to keep her alive even though she was clearly not dehydrated (nor did they do any tests to she if she needed fluids), she needs help to get to the litter box. For anyone who has a pet when you see them like this you know that at this point youre extending their life for selfish reasons so I had to take her in to be put down. This was the first pet that Ive ever had to have put to sleep and I had to take her back to Massanutten Animal Clinic. They were the most insensitive people that I have ever had to deal with. I personally hold Massanutten Animal Clinic responsible for the worsening of my cats condition and taking advantage of not only a college student but a pet lover who was willing to do anything to help her kitty and unfortunately listened to quack advice. I hope no one every has to go through this experience. Stay away from Massanutten Animal Clinic.

Massanutten Animal Clinic is truly the best! Right from the front desk staff to the vet techs to the doctors! You know from the moment you walk in that they care about your animal. Im sure like most of you my dogs are not my pets, they are my family. When your family member sick you want the best care possible and that is what you get at MAC. One year ago in January my Vino got sick, he had a cough that I knew was not right. I called on Monday morning and was told I could bring him right in. They told me that I didnt have to wait and they would fit him in as soon as they could. By later that morning I received a call from Dr. Erica Stephenson and she was calling to tell me the worst news about my Vino. He had an enlarged heart and congestive heart failure. I rushed right over to the clinic to discuss his condition. I have to say I was crying a lot. Erica walked in to explain everything to me and she did it with such true care and concern. She took her time and let me ask my million questions about what this meant for Vino. We went over medications and she explained how very sick he was and that he may only be with me for four months due to how advanced it was. Not the news I ever wanted to hear since Vino was just turning 8 that month. Over the next several months there were office visits and panicked messages from me. Every message was returned with the same care and concern I got that very first day in the office. I got to know the front desk staff due to me having to pick up medications every month. Every time I was in there they asked about Vino and how he was doing, they really cared. The four months came and went and after his exams Erica would tell me what a miracle he was. On November 21 he couldnt fight anymore and his sweet, sweet heart just couldnt take anymore. It was time, time to say good bye to my baby. Most of that day is a blur but they let me take my time and just be with him. I know I must have been there for hours. With tears in her eyes Erica hugged like she had done so many times over those 11 months, still calling him a miracle. He was a miracle but I believe it is because of the truly loving care that he received there. MAC made one of the hardest times in my life a little better. By me knowing that they were giving him the best care possible and for that I thank them from the bottom of my heart. ❤

My cats and dogs have been making trips to Massanutten Animal Clinic for nearly 15 years. Theyve been with me through some very difficult times and also happy and careful routine care. Dr. Jim (Svonavec) and Dr. Mark (Smith) have both seen my personal pets as well as countless foster cats. Their staff is amazing and many of the techs have been there for many years and know my animals by name. As sometimes things are with any medical office, you need to make sure you ask the right questions and provide as much info as you can on your animals behavior/symptoms so that you receive the best treatment possible. If you dont understand something, both docs and the techs will readily explain things in as much detail as you would like. Im always hearing of some new thought, procedure or protocol that theyve learned. Its seems like theyre always staying current and willing to discuss options in treatment. The docs work well together, too. On a recent routine exam with my senior labrador, Dr. Jim felt an abnormal mass in my labs abdomen. He did the diagnostics necessary and then Dr. Mark did the surgery to remove it while Dr. Jim was also able to be present. Both of them and tech Christine helped that experience to be the best it could be for both my lab and for me. Had Dr. Jim not palpated that mass at a routine visit, we could be in an entirely different situation. The practice is very good with cats, too - even my psycho-while-at-the-vet black cat. I feel confident that each gets the care that he or she needs. Everyone is very patient, gentle and caring. Thanks Massanutten!

I have been trusting the care of my pets to Massanutten Animal Clinic for 6 years, and I wouldnt take them anywhere else! My dogs are like my children, so Im fussy about their care. When my first dog was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago, they were quick to call me with test results, knowing how hard waiting can be. Dr. Jim walked me through the diagnosis, explaining all of my options and helping me to make sure my dog was comfortable. When she had to be put down, the techs were respectful and considerate, even making an ornament with her paw print for me. Im now "mom" to two pups, and Mass Vets has helped me through the puppy stages to set my dogs up to be healthy adults. At each visit the vets and techs go over my pets health with me, and they also talk to me about what to expect with their health over the next year as they grow. They answer my questions - whether were in for a check-up or even if I call and need some advice. Theyre so friendly and treat each pet as if it were their own. My pets have seen both Dr. Mark and Dr. Jim over the years, as well as most of their staff, and theyre all amazing! Theyve diagnosed everything from a collapsed trachea to cancer and helped me through every life stage, from puppy shots and spaying to the loss of a pet. I trust them completely and recommend them wholeheartedly! You cant go wrong with Massanutten Animal Clinic.
