I should have listened to the reviews, I only went with this vet b/c my dog was sick and the more highly recommend vets were booked up. Now I wish I hadnt b/c my dog may be alive today. Spent a great deal of money having my dog tested for illness, told everythign came back excellent, three weeks later she died. When I told the tech about it, although she was very nice she tried to tell me that these things happen unexpectedly, I told her there was nothing unexpected about it, I knew my dog was sick that is why I paid the vet hundreds of dollars to look at her and test her. Also, brought my other dog (who is a rescue dog) in for routine prescription medecine, for a condition that he will have for the rest of his life. He has a life long prescription for, and vet would not sell the medecine to me until he charged me to examine him again. Keep in mind that he saw him the week before and charged me for a wellness exam, but I was supposed to pay again because this was a "different issue." Then one of the techs told me my dog hadnt had any of his vaccines and would need all his shots, until I showed her the paperwork where he had all his shots earlier this year before I moved to charlottesville, then she argued with me that he hadnt had his rabies so I had to point to the rabies certificate int he file, which was also given this year. It was pretty insulting that the vet tech would imply that my dogs didnt have their vaccines without first looking thouroughly at the file, or maybe this was a tactic to make extra money off from me, who knows...but it seemed odd especially after I had brought my dogs twice to this vet facility already. Definately not going back.

Im sorry I even have to give one star. Need option for NO stars. This place is money hungry!! I had used this place for 7 years unfortunately. I should have listened to my gut. One of my dogs (I have 3) came down with an infection of the uterus and needed to get fixed. I took her there because they are very nice and I guess they would be to get your money. I got an estimate on the procedure and it was going to be $1800. I took her to another vet after listening to my gut this time and they charged me $350, and when I showed them the estimate from this place they wanted to copy it because they wanted to show the other people on the practice to joke about. That place was the best clinic I had ever been to. They cared about the dogs and owners and have the best care. I had to use Charlottesville veterinary hospital recently again. Not by choice it was emergency. My dog couldnt breathe easily and was in pain. They did tests, ex-rays, etc. I got sent to a heart specialist after being told she had an enlarged heart and possible a large cancer mass in her. After going to the specialist which i do need to take her back in a year just to make sure that her senior age that her heart is still healthy! YES I said healthy! And NO CANCER! The specialist prescribed Prilosec for gas and she was back to herself in 3 days. When I called and talked to them they said the doctor did not mean to come across that my dog was "not going to die or anything" well how would you take it being told enlarged heart, and cancer! Well they got the money out of me and Im sure it was well worth it since they have lost my business!

Ive been a client at this veterinary clinic for nearly two years and have been very satisfied with the quality of its service, whether it be diagnosis, treatment, emergency visits, referrals to specialists, prescriptions or even euthanasia. Like many large clinics that serve a growing metropolitan area, your visit time may be shorter than you like, or you may not always be able to see your vet of choice. But I find the front desk staff, the techs and the vets all very caring, up-to-date in their training, willing to listen and excellent at surgery. The trick, I think (and this is true of any veterinary clinic) is deciding which vet best suits the needs of your individual animal, something that can be determined by researching the veterinary profiles, asking a few questions and chatting with the vets themselves. Basically, try to build a relationship with your vet through wellness/preventative care so that your he/she knows your animal BEFORE an emergency or serious illness arises. And for those of you complaining about the prices: Remember, this is an AAHA-approved clinic, which means a state-of-the-art facility, equipment and procedures. As I learned years ago, you get what you pay for when it comes to veterinary services, and although prices everywhere are skyrocketing, AAHA-inspected and approved hospitals are the safest way to go, particularly when it comes to surgical procedures.

Dr. Magill is incredible! Shortly after I moved to Charlottesville, my 4-year-old dog developed a life-threatening disease (around 6/2012). I did not yet have a veterinarian here, so I went in not knowing what to expect and very worried about my dog. It became apparent very quickly that we were in exceptionally good hands. Dr. Magill and her whole staff put both my dog and me at ease. Dr. Magill is very knowledgeable and thorough, not to mention kind. She found a diagnosis quickly, ruling out all other options, and worked with us through the initial treatment. She has been very conscientious about following up with rechecks and often calls me personally to share test results and check in. My dog never shows any hesitation walking into the office or back to the treatment rooms, as he has with other vets. Its clear hes very comfortable with Dr. Magill and the staff.

Several months ago I took one of my two rats in for an exam. He was sick and not able to walk properly. They examined him and said that they didnt know what exactly was wrong, but that they would like to look at the healthy one to see if they could determine what was causing the symptoms and to make sure he wouldnt fall sick as well. An hour after I took in the healthy rat I received a phone call informing me that the healthy rat had died because he had been improperly restrained, and hed jumped off of the exam table and fallen badly. Two hours later they called to tell me that the sick rat had also passed away. When I went in to talk to the vet about it, she said that the healthy rat falling was "her bad" and told me they would send the bill later. Please dont take your pet in here, they are extremely irresponsible.

I cant say enough kind things about Dr. Luzaich. We feel she saved our little Matties life by doing emergency surgery ASAP. She was caring and considerate and kept us abreast of her condition. She also used her own car to transport Mattie to the emergency clinic in the evening so we didnt have to drive almost an hour each way from Wintergreen. She went the extra mile. The staff was also helpful and friendly. Thank you for making a stressful time less worrisome. We cant thank you enough and would recommend Dr. Luzaich to anyone seeking a veterinarian. Barbara and Michael Brownley AND Mattie who, by the way, is feeling great and back to her old self.
