I have owned dogs for 30+ years and moved many times, so I have had a lot of veterinarians. I currently have a rescue dog that is 3 years old and moved to Baltimore within the last year. I have to say that this is the worst vet Ive had. They were very nice when I arrived and when the tech was taking the history. After a few minutes, the tech said that they were taking him in the back to test for heart worm. When he came back he was shaking with fear and in a muzzle. I then found out that they drew blood (I probably should have known that that were going to do that when the tech said "test for heart worm," but I didnt), gave him two vaccination shots, and were surprised that he was defending himself. How would you like it if two strangers took you away from the people you know, prick you with needles, muzzle you when you resist, and then keep doing it even though you are scared? For the record, the vet did NOT say that he bit her or anybody. The major problems I have with that situation and place are: 1. They didnt tell me that they were going to do all of that in the back room. If I were around him it would have gone completely differently. When I suggest this to Dr. Shook, she said that it was "never a problem with any other dog." I then informed her that not all dogs were the same and they should inform the owner to avoid situations like that. I honestly cannot believe that a DVM can have that much of a misunderstanding of how dogs personalities may vary. 2. Their solution to a scared dog being pricked with needles was to muzzle him and keep pricking him with needles. Really? Do you know the personality of dogs at all? If anything, they just made his fears worse. 3. Instead of coming to get me to see if I could calm him down, they just continued. 4. When I voiced my displeasure after they brought him back to the exam room, the vet (Dr. Shook) was clearly irritated with me by the look on her face. She didnt say anything bad or rude, but her face did. I will never go back there, and it took all of my strength to not just walk out. Hopefully I can find a vet in the area that can give me the same experience as I’ve had in many other cities, with many other vets.

I unfortunately first came to City Pets to put down one of my cats who had been suffering with a very aggressive cancer. As hard of a decision and process this was, the staff at city pets was unbelievably kind, respectful, and genuinely seemed to sympathize with me not only during the process but with follow ups as well. They allowed me to take as much time as I needed to say goodbye to my beloved pet and let me stay as long as I needed after she had passed. The following week - before I was scheduled to pick up my cats ashes - I received a card in the mail hand signed by the entire staff expressing their condolences. This was completely unexpected and greatly appreciated. When I went back to pick up my cats ashes, they had everything prepared and ready to go upon arrival. The box is a beautifully carved wooden box with a gold plate on the outside with my pets name engraved in it. The team at City Pets far exceeded any expectations I had and would absolutely recommend them to anyone. They made the horrible process of putting down a loved pet bearable. I will forever be grateful to them and will definitely return for future checkups for my current and future Pets.

Parking sucks and the walk through the heavy street traffic can be stressful to the dog. You should contact my wife for this review at this time, as she will be more positive. The service and care our animals have received at City Pets has always been good for over a decade, but the follow up to Rafes dental surgery by the" shrug it off" folks at the recommended location has made me very angry. Rafe should have had teeth care long before the infection stated, the infection should have been reduced before the surgery, From where I stand, we paid a lot to have a dog put down in a painful and terrifying way. His last day was panic and flailing for hours at a time, in great pain and fear until it finally killed him," Oh, older dogs just take more longer to come out of the sedation, just give it more time, we are closed now" I would have accepted putting him down easier (and cheaper) than ending his sweet life with hell. I will be taking Mimi elsewhere, I hope getting her file will not be an issue. Thanks for the care that has been given, but I can not walk back in there.

CityPets is by the only place where pets owners in the city should take their animals. I cant think of many businesses let alone vets, where every single person is genuinely interested and concerned about your experience that day. Everyone is very knowledgeable about the care and well being of animals and you truly get the sense that your pet is in the very best hands in the city. Also, in a business where it would be very easy to take advantage of someones love for their pet and lack of knowledge; I have yet to feel like ive gotten something or have paid for something that my dog didnt truly need. The staff and doctor make sure you know exactly what it is your paying for and why your pet needed it. They also have no problem telling you what your pet DOESNT need either! It has truly been a wonderful experience dealing with CityPets!

We have been taking our Boston Terrier, Bella, to CityPets for 6 years and could not be happier. Dr. Shook is very sweet with Bella, very patient with us, and has given us excellent advice on a multitude of issues over the years. All members of the staff are also friendly and great to work with. In particular, Lea goes out of her way time and time again to help us. Bella loves going to CityPets because of all the attention and treats that she gets! We are very grateful to have such a great vet so close to home!

When we first moved to Baltimore we had such a hard time finding a vet. We went to four different places before we went to Citypets, so we didnt have a lot of expectations. However, Dr Shook and the staff at citypets have been incredible. We get convenient reminders for our regular appts and shots. They do a wonderful job calming our anxious dog. And the one time our dog tore her duclaw they were able to fit us in and the cost was very reasonable. We have had nothing but great experiences with Citypets.

Dr Shook and the entire team at CityPets are fantastic! We initially chose CityPets b/c of the convenient location - we can walk from our house. Everyone we interact with is courteous and genuinely care about our two dogs. Making appointments are easy, theres never a delay when you arrive and their follow up is excellent. Our dogs never have an aversion when we walk in the door - always a great sign. Would wholeheartedly recommend this practice!
