. I took my daughter to Valley of the Sun for an ear infection/ruptured eardrum, which the school nurse said she had. The nurse also said her other ear looked like it was infected too. The office got her in and the nurse practitioner looked in her ears and took her temp (which was high considering she had meds already). They said she had a ruptured ear drum and they were going to give her numbing drops. I asked how that was going to help her fight the infection and that every other time we had an ear infection they were given antibiotics (from their old pediatrician). She started talking to me like I was some crazy mom just looking for antibiotics when CLEARLY they weren’t needed. Finally they gave her antibiotic ear drops and said if it didn’t work to come back and see them and that even if she was better, I needed to make a follow up appt, which I did. By Friday, both of her ears were hurting and she was in a lot of pain so I called the office and to ask if they could call in a script. They said there policy was to “re-evaluate” her and I had to come in and pay another co-pay to get antibiotics. I went in, gave them a bit of grief, paid my $45 co-pay again, and asked to talk to the office manager. He was conveniently gone so they said they’d have him call me the next week. We saw the nurse who did a strep test and informed me that my daughter had a double ear infection and strep!!! She wondered why there was no strep test done last time and she called in a script. Thankfully, the antibiotic had her feeling better within the day, which was great because it was her birthday. Monday came and went with no phone call. So did Tuesday. I called on Wednesday and left a message that I was cancelling her follow-up because she was better and that I was STILL awaiting a call of the office manager. They called on Friday and left me a message that I should not have cancelled the appointment, that even if she seemed better I should still take her in (and pay a third $45 copay) to check to see that she was getting better! Not a word about the office manager not calling me back! I was floored!! What they should have said to me is “We just want your money; we’re not going to even acknowledge your complaint.” Clearly Valley of the Sun Pediatrics is more concerned with money than their reputation, and based on the fact that they wouldn’t give me an antibiotic in the first place (which I honestly believe they suspected she needed) their priority is not the patient! I believe I gave Valley of the Sun the chance to prove me wrong, but, sadly they didn’t. I am hearing that many of my neighbors and co-workers have had similar experiences with them as well

I am sad to have to give a poor review - the medical care is wonderful, but the billing practice is challenged. My son is special needs and I feel like Dr. Hineman has always been respectful of this situation and accommodated our needs. Yet, recently she wrote for an antibiotic that needed to be administered over 3 days and each of the follow up visits were coded as an office visit. As a result of this we were billed for each one of the office visits. The MAJOR issue I have is that we did not need office visits with providers (an MD or NP) because the administration of the medication, per literature, can be supported and monitored by a nurse. I know this because I am a nurse. I questioned this, received a phone call from the office manager, who is Dr. Hinemans father, and I feel like I am being punished because our son is special needs and requires follow up visits. The thing about it is that I am disappointed, but with business practices to get ever dime out of a patient then it is not a business I want to continue to use. I have had procedures done and because the office coded them as follow up I did not have to pay, I do not understand how this could occur, but all I know is Im walking away from this and going to get everyone I can know about this practice of the office of Valley of the Sun Pediatrics.

Our sons have been seeing Dr Hineman for over 5 years and they love her. What I like is the Saturday hours so we dont have to miss work or school to have a well check! My wife likes being able to speak with HER doctor not a nurse in another state when we have a question after office hours. The practice is also open late. We have called last minute at 4pm and have gotten in later that night. Dr Hineman is compassionate and caring! We highly recommend this doctor.
