Have been going to Encino Hospital the past fifty years. My father was a doctor and in his illness they treated him terribly. I had two horrifying experiences just in the past few months with the emergency room doctors - they were absolutely awful. There was not a soul patient wise in the er and it was if I was bothering them for sure - the triage nurse immediately slapped down this piece of paper all about narcotics right in my face as I was vomiting and trying to get through the triage process at 2:30a.m. - when I did get back to the doctor the first thing he said to me, very rudely was, "I AM NOT GIVING YOU ANY NARCOTICS!" and walked away even before I was able to tell him what was wrong. I replied, "I dont recall ever asking for any!" He simply assumed and quite incorrectly that because I was in pain that I was drug-seeking and the last thing anyone wants when feeling so sick - sick enough to visit the emergency room in the middle of the night - is to be treated rudely and shamed/blamed for being ill to begin with. My other experience was similar - the doctor was rude and callous as if I were bothering her. Really? In bringing a few friends to the Encino emergency room this past year I found similar attitudes from the nurses and the physicians as well and must say my days of ever going back there are finished. Saint Josephs much, much better. Having worked in the medical field my whole life it is my opinion that the main job of a physician first and foremost is to comfort his patient and then treat for whatever. A little kindness goes a long way and I do not know what the heck was going on with these people but they were anything but kind - anything but interested - anything but professional. They were awful. Please know there are some amazingly kind doctors who do work the emergency room but they are few and far between - if it can be helped I would suggest going elsewhere where one will be treated much better. If it were just me I would not have bothered posting but many of my friends who have grown up going to Encino er feel the same and there is definitely something to be said about that. I wrote a letter to the director of the emergency room regarding my experience since I was so bothered by but of course never received a reply back - goes to show how much they really do not care. Just sayin....

This place does not deserve even one star. First of all, be wary because their billing team charges their visitors duplicate and fraudulently. First time I hurt my ankle about four years ago I paid my bills and then I received same set of charges again and they sent it to collections this time. No one could explain why the charges were there but demanded I pay up and so I did because I didnt have time to investigate it properly. Besides, I was confused about what are the real charges and I also didnt know my rights at the time unfortunately! Well two years ago I got food poisoning and my family took me there, being that it was closest place around. I have top of the line PPO insurance from my work and I still paid close to 6,000 out of pocket for this instance where I was there for less than 24 hours. Now, a year and half later, I am getting calls from collection companies, just like last time, that they want to collect another set of fees, in total close to another $6,000. Unfortunately, their service was quite horrible as well. Once they checked me into the hospital they said the doctor will be there in about an hour. Well, doctor came and left and four hours later he had decided not to see me. The hospital said apparently there were more urgent cases than mine and he couldnt see me and I had to wait for several more hours until he came back again. Meanwhile they were racking up fraudulent hospital charges. I refused allowing them to take blood from me every two minutes because I knew it was not needed. All they had to do was be upfront and tell me the doctor cannot see you and I would have accepted than and leave. No one likes hospitals but I can easily say this place was the most horrible experience Ive had within the medical world and Ive had surgeries and plenty of medical procedures. Try to go elsewhere if you can.

If you find yourself in this hospital for any reason - run. My wife had a knot in her intestine that required immediate surgery. She was in the 10th degree of pain. we begged and pleaded for the surgery (which we found would be done by a rent-a-doctor). There are no doctors at this hospital except the liar that runs the place. After 6 days of incredible pain (the pain medications would only work for a short period of time), and a padding of the bill with every kind of test and x-ray five or six times a day, finally the surgery was set after another 2 day wait. The surgeon apparently could not read the plethora of x-rays that were taken and cut 5 places in her abdomen searching about for the problem. When we got the hospital reports the liar-in-charge wrote that we had declined immediate surgery. We reported them to our insurance company who made an investigation into the claims that resulted in our favor. After it was all over we realized how incredibly lucky we were that my wife lived through this.

Were new to the area. My husband had an aggressive cardiac ablation two days before a fever, congestive heart failure, sepsis and a variety of other nasty complications reared their heads. So inconvenient. Why didnt this "stuff" show up when he was kept overnight at Torrance Memorial? Ugh. Had no idea which ER to take him and saw some reviews and decided on Encino. AN EXCEPTIONAL CHOICE! Very low key. Didnt see many white coats. Everyone, absolutely everyone, including Adrian who did the intake turned out to be exceptionally competent, communicative and caring. They quickly and effortlessly identified the numerous issues my husband was experiencing all while reducing our anxieties. The comprehensive plan was explained. They kept him overnight and he went home the following day, free of all symptoms. The entire staff who helped us should be commended in every possible way. Were so very lucky they are just "down the street". Thank you so very much. Claudia McCulloch

Well if you ever get sick dont go to Encino medical...those people wouldnt even make good veterinarians ... I would have been better off going to a Veterinarian I have a hairline fracture around my right orbital causing an acute sinus infection that is causing puss to flow out my nose...coughing up bloody brown phlegm... doctor using the wrong side of his stethoscope says Ill be fine and kicked me out on the streets at 4 AM in the freezing rain... those people give new meaning to quacks and shouldnt be allowed to carry the label "Doctors" status... heres a thought...you cant be a Doctor if you cant spell it and you cant be a nurse if you cant define it !!! im heading to Kaiser Permanente on Sunset and Vermont...at least they will give me antibiotics before they kick me out on the streets
