DO NOT GU HERE! The staff is outstanding, but not as efficient as the ER could have been. They didnt run tests they should have. Now Im being told to go back by friends (ones a retired RN) (THIS IS A WEEK LATER)I went back tp the ER (Sat. night)after seeing blood in my stool twice. The doctor tested me and I was right. After that everything went down hill. The nurse had put me in a bed in with the psych patients. How did I know? 2 years ago I was depressed and went there. Thats where they put and held me before shipping me off to county mental (a HORRIBLE place) When they brought me in I had explained I was there a week before and I gave the girl my name. She decided to ;eave off my 2nd last mane (the one my insurance knows me by) As a result they got my old psych chart instead of my recent one from the last couple years. After they saw blood I was ignored instead of admitting me, What they concider a mental doctor came in and told me I was there because I complained about being constipated. They knew why I was there but since they couldnt get my records straight I was subjected to this idiot trying to tell me why I had come in and my doctor and nurse were no where to be found. I was in tears by then, they were lyinhg about the pain meds they were saying they were giving me because they werent helping at all. They did give me Adavan though (a psych med to calm mental patients down) After a couple more hours my original doctor and nurse came in and told me my insurance wouldnt cover the scope they were ready to do when I got there and wanted to ship me to a hospital about 1 1/2 hours away to a hospital that would was. I have never heard of this hospital or the town it was in. Im checking it out but Im sure that shrink wanted me sent to a mental hospital. I WAS NOT there as a psych patient. I have been stable and taking my meds faithfully for over 1 1/2 years. I am having a formal investigation of this incident done and will be at the hospital to talk to whoever is in charge of that hospital. Im a 56 year old women, not some stupid kid, and a panic disorder does not constitute what was done to me. I walked out last night , am still in pain, with no way of knowing how badly my insides are still bleeding. I wont go back there and Im alone and cant get to another hospital. Im poor and cant call an ambulance if I need one.

I have used Hoag doctors and facilities for almost 20 years and have had no complaints. This year, like the past several, I scheduled my mammogram and other womens wellness appointments. I specifically asked the scheduler when I made my appointment if all of the procedures would be covered by my health insurance and was assured everything would be covered 100% under preventive wellness check. Imagine my surprise when I received the bill from the radiologist for over $600 and to find out that is not covered by my insurance. No one at Hoag bothered to point out that the radiologists are independent from the hospital (not contracted) and could possibly not be covered by my insurance. It would have been appropriate and appreciated if the scheduler would have pointed out that one small detail and let me decide whether I wanted to visit Hoag or take my business elsewhere. Another thing, I have never been diagnosed with any type of breast issues and they continually try to put fear in me that I should have more procedures done that will only set me back further financially due to the radiologists not being contracted with the hospital. It is unfortunate that after all these years I will be looking elsewhere for my healthcare.

Hoag has taken a nose-dive in service over the last two years. While I was well cared for two years ago during a stay there, the opposite was true during a 5 day stay at Hoag in September 2013. When I signed papers during pre-op I advised Hoag that I had Blue Shield PPO and could have no services performed by anyone who did not accept my health insurance. I was assured this would be the case. Three weeks after being discharged I received a bill from an assistant named Dr. Neuman for over $7,600 claiming he DID NOT accept Blue Shield PPO, which is an excellent insurance coverage. I never met Dr. Neuman and had no idea who he was, apparently he assisted the surgeon after I was put under. The person who usually came to help me in the hospital room spoke no English .When i asked her to pull the curtain to give me some privacy during a sponge bath instead she yanked on my Foley . As if that was not bad enough a strange man walked in the room while I was disrobed, gasped, turned bright red and scurried out. If I am being charged $98,000 for 5 days in a hospital Hoag can at least hire people who understand and speak ENGLISH!

I had back surgery at Hoag Hospital. My doctor, Burak Ozgar, is great. I really loved him, so I followed him down to Orange County for my surgery even though I live on the Westside of Los Angeles. I found the nursing staff to be atrocious. They were completely uncaring about my comfort and left me in pain constantly. When I told the admissions staff that the doctor had moved the surgery up from 7:30 to 9:30, they wouldnt believe me. They prepped me for surgery an hour and a half too early. As I was about to go in to the operating room, my doctor came by to say hi (at 9:00am) and he was in his street clothes. He said he was sorry, but as a result of their inability to get the time of the surgery correct, I never got to meet the other surgeon who operated on me because I was asleep before he got there! Afterwards, the nurses couldnt have been worse. I really mean that. There was only one nurse who came in to see me in the 5 days that I was there in hideous pain who actually gave me enough pain medicine and was kind to me. This hospital was clean and that is the only good thing I can say.

After waiting for 4 hours in pre surgery at Hoag Newport Beach hospital yesterday afternoon... I was told that they had to reschedule my surgery because the assistant surgeon was not available! I had my IV and all post surgery completed ... Regarding my IV - the nurse tried twice and could not get the IV in my hand ( hurt and bruises all over my hand!) she called another nurse in and she successfully got my IV in!) went home very disappointed!! Today I was concerned about the billing for yesterdays mistakes from the hospital so I called the Hoag hospital billing department this morning and of course was transferred three times over an hour on the phone with still no answer regarding my billing question! However I did find out the admitting personal yesterday made a mistake on Medicare insurance as my primary insurance. They had my secondary insurance as my first!!! As I see it ... Hoag hospital makes many mistakes and doesnt not care about the patient at all. I would rate my total experience at Hoag Newport Beach Hospital a "1"!!! Terrible experience!!!
