I have lived in different parts of the Bay Area for over 20 years, and have visited many of the animal shelters. This is absolutely the best! Nine Lives rescues cats that nowhere else would take. If the cat is sick, they rehabilitate it, no matter the expense. If the cat is too young, the foster it out for loving care until it is big enough to adopt. If it is old, they take it in and find an understanding home. They travel to other shelters in the Bay Are and beyond (as far as Los Banos!) and pick up cats that have run out of time at the shelter. They run a very low-cost spay and neuter program, and also assist with trap-neuter-and-release programs to help bring down the number of ferrels. I have adopted three cats from Nine Lives, and they are the most loving, best adjusted and friendly cats I have owned -- I think because they get so much love, and because they are in big enclosures with other cats if they are there for very long at all. This place runs on an absolute shoe-string budget, but founds homes for 1200 cats last year!!!!!!!!!!! If you arent looking to adopt a cat but love them, you can volunteer here, or send a check, or join there Facebook page and see what they need donations of right away. LOVE this place!

Id give Nine Lives 6 stars! Ive heard so many people praise them, and had visited them before, but finally had my own incredible experience. Dr. Monica Rudiger is a saint! She is incredibly compassionate for all cats, especially feral cats that society has ignored and even abused. So when a feral cat (Frankie) at our cat colony near SFO airport became very ill, our group decided Nine Lives was the obvious place to go. Frankie was showing all the symptoms of a serious upper respiratory infection (URI), and the temperatures at night were dipping below 40 degrees. I feared he might have pneumonia as well. I caught him with another member of our group, and brought him to Dr. Rudigers cat clinic in Redwood City. She discovered a severe URI, but also a mouth full of rotten teeth, all of which had to be removed. Her staff at the clinic were all very helpful. Frankie was then transferred to their adoption center at Rolison Road, also in Redwood City. There he received excellent medical care and TLC, especially from Trish, a very experienced technician, for over a month until he recovered. The bill for all these services would easily be $2,000. The bill we received? $100.

I adopted two cats from Nine Lives 6 and 7 years ago. These cats would have been put down at most other shelters because they are both Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Infection (FIV), however, they have had a healthy and happy life with me. The vet knew the cats personally and recommended I get the second cat after I had settled in with the first cat. That was a fantastic idea as they are such good buddies and take care of each other when I am gone. As a newbie, they gave me lots of good advice about how to care for the cats. Now we are a family. I was a little overwhelmed when I first went to the center - so many cats. They encouraged me to just sit down and watch the cats and after my second visit, I was comfortable. They did a thorough health check before I took my cats home - one had a small eye infection which they treated and kept cat in isolation until he was healthy and ready to come home with me in about a week.

We adopted a male and a female cat from Nine Lives in 2007. When we entered the facility on a Saturday Dr. Thompson was performing surgery on a cat. Many, many cats were available for adoption and several pleasant volunteers were available to answer questions, etc. We found two adorable adult cats, both of whom Dr. Thompson had saved from "death row." For this I will be forever grateful to her. Both cats had respiratory problems which went away a couple weeks after coming to their "forever home." It is very, very apparent how much Dr. Thompson loves cats. No, this is not a fancy facility where cats watch their own televisions. It is a shelter where a dedicated vet and employees work to save lives of as many adoptable cats as possible. And they need contributions, so please consider a donation if youre unable to adopt!

Saviors for humans and animals alike. We had two stray cats at our job that we cared for for 2 yrs. When one fell ill and the time came to try and get them a home after we socialized them, we couldnt find a home for one, let alone both who had grown to love one another. One cat had FIV (feline AIDS) They not only took our sick cat, and were going to fix him up in prep for a home, but also our other cat on short notice. They were blessings, because we couldnt find another place to take them. Forever grateful.

I have 2 awesome kitties from Nine Lives. They also took in a kitten that I found on my street (which I could not keep because of the aforementioned kitties :), when I was turned down by another shelter I have worked with before (whispers). I cant say enough great things for the work that they do at Nine Lives and I even make it a point to visit them once a month or so just to hang out with the cats they have. They are a true no-kill shelter and a true gem to all of the cats that they house and take care of.

Nine Lives Foundation is a true no kill cat shelter- They also do low cost vaccinations, dentistry and spay and neuter. Dr Monica Rudiger is the best vet I have ever come across. She saves from high kill shelters and never puts down a cat for just testing positive for FIV or FELV- Its also a great place to volunteer where one person does make a huge difference.

Dr. Monica is such a lovely person. She is one of the rare veterinarians who is in it purely to prevent suffering rather than because it can be such a lucrative career. This is her passion. She is amazing with your pets -- and goes out of her way to help you with feral cats. Please support Nine Lives Foundation!

The Nine Lives Foundation is EXCELLENT! You will find as good as if not better vet care here, PLUS you will be helping a great cause AND it will cost you about 40% less. Furthermore, Dr. Thompson is professional, kind, and very knowledgeable. A++ for the Nine Lives Foundation.

They do a great job taking care of cats no matter their status. This is a no-lill shelter. Theyre closing down this location and moving to a nearby one, but still have their other small location at Jefferson (its a cat clinic with a couple cats for adoption)

I got my cat, Happy, at Nine Lives Foundation :) And I LOVE OUT KITTY!!! He is super sweet! Last time I was there, there were cats almost everywhere! On chairs, walls, probably tables, and inside gates.

They adopted 2 cats to me and then called me the next day saying they were no longer up for adoption and that I couldnt have them
