Love The ward Nurses and staff, However the pre-op and anaestheology were disasters for me--departments after departments all separated and in charge of their own domains-My Cardio surgery was not a success and resulted in a stroke as well--day of surgery was delayed 10+ hours because of sterilization inspection of entire hospital, took 2 hours to insert catheter in an arm with large veins, mask had no flow and no-one would listen , I had a terrible near-death surgery that did not work and left me partially paralysed-An amazing organization designed to move people fast that doesnt work and just as a minor thing---forget about parking or a close hotel for loved ones to stay---just a terrible experience I couldnt regret more

All SF area vets are glad to have the SFVAMC as a resource. Our care is really pretty good. There are always some problem areas. Here are a few: Parking. No director has ever resoleved this. (Hint--staff are there for 8 hr. shifts and could park elsewhere with little problem. Patients are there at random times and many need to park close.) DV/ DP plates should take presidence over those $5.00 blue tags. The clinics should run 2 shifts. Evening appointments would be easy for those who travel less than 1 hr. Why do all clinics close from 12 to 1??? What a waste of time. Finally, there sure are a lot of staffers B.S.ing while patients wait.

My health care is very good.Sometimes they seem to go overboard on tests so they are really sure of the protocall for the next step. The recent OPEN FACE TALK has improved their thinking on care and was a definite improvement over past performance. Unfortunately they do not give all their employees ENGLISH LESSONS SO BOTH THE GIVER AND THE RECEIVER CLOSELY UNDERSTAND WHAT IS EITHER GOING TO HAPPEN OR WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO DO. THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO HAVE PEOPLE WORKING WITH SICK PEOPLE AND EACH DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE OTHER ABOUT WHAT IS WRONG. THIS IS A MANAGEMENT PROBLEM AND MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO CORRECT.

The doctor was very good, however I had an 11:00 am appointment I arrived at 10:30 a.m. And checked in then went for a cup of coffee. Returned st 10:45 for my appointment. After waiting an hour and a half I went to the desk, they said I was next. Finally at 1:10pm I got in. The girl in back said they had called me in st 10:40 . I was not there cause my appointment was not until 11:00. The people at the fRont desk I feel are to blame, and if you complain they just dont care. When I had left for coffee the person at the fRont desk said ok just be back before 11:00 which I was

There are some of the finest doctors and nurses at this facility. My grandfather was there for a little over 3 months back in late 2000 for a quad bipass. My grandmother never left his side, she lived in the waiting room the whole duration of his stay. The nurses allowed her to bathe and use their facilities. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. They even sewed up the top of my little girls head (free of charge) when she busted it open.

Im convinced the nut house isnt close to hospital for the veterans, but were the hospital gets half of the doctors. I was given Tylenol and told to change my diet after being sent to the ER for severe pain that left me unable to eat anything but crackers for 3 weeks. I dont care about how nice the grounds look or how much people enjoy working there half the ER doctors clearly have their heads up their ass.

I dont always come here IM NOT AN HOSPITAL PERSON, but one time on the 38 heading this way so I might as well get off at the Fort Miley terminal... I started feeling hungry and thirsty yes yes, went to the cafe to buy a big bag of chips and water. The prices seemed reasonable and I also remember buying BART Tickets from their gifty shop. The staff seemed knowledgablew, friendly, and courteous. thanks much

Ive been coming here for a few years. However, most of my visits have been routine body checkups. No major operation on me so I cant speak on that. But Ive have had a pretty good experience with this hospital. Except for the ID card department. They seem to be always close when you need them.

I gave 1 star because thats the only way to leave a comment. This hospital is so NEGLECTFUL they forget to give pain medicine they give the wrong antibiotics they leave patients to fend for themselves or have other patients help its just an outrage.

Being a patient at the San Francisco V.A medical center; be it eye clinic, medical practice, podiatry, orthopedics,, x-ray, blood work or pharmacy, it has been a 5 star experience from staff. Roy Chalmers

Tried repeatedly to reach this facility at the phone numbers I was provided with and no one answers and no one returns messages. If this were a private business bankruptcy would be imminent.

This is a stunning set of buildings located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You can go and walk among the grounds. Its a real treat.

Most of the staff are Vets themselves and have always treated me like family. I could never thank them enough for the care they have provided me and the respect they have shown me.

Staff is great; very helpful. On the occasions Ive had to wait a long for my appointment staff always announces or posts the wait time to everyone so were not left wondering.

Visited the Oral Surgery clinic and they are fantastic. Parking was a little difficult, but I was expecting that in San Francisco. But the VA Staff and Clinic was amazing.

Great location, mostly for the view of the bay. I like the staff here, and they can be really personable. Mental Health staff are the best Ive worked with.

My veteran has the best doctors here new parking structure and free valet is awesome. I think they deserve tips (though we are not allowed to do so).

The people there are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The doctors do seem overworked and tired though but which doctors arent?
