I agree with the review below who says not to go to this vet unless you have an endless bank account. Here is my story: Monday I was giving my 2-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, a treat and while I was "shaking her paw" she cried. I noticed her "dew claw" – which is that useless toe dogs have on the top part of their foot, was swollen. I let it be for the week hoping it would get better. But on Friday she was swatting her ball and cried when she banged her toe so I decided it was time for the doctor. Since I was no longer working I considered finding a new vet because I always knew GVH was a little pricey, but I was lazy and figured it would likely be a short appointment. Theyd see, as I did, the infection and give her antibiotics. Big Mistake. They had a new vet, and she insisted I leave my dog there for x-rays, which she said required sedation. She also wanted to take some blood work. This all seemed fair although I was a little surprised when they told me it would cost $500. For some reason vets always make me feel like I am crazy to question the costs of these procedures and that I am horrible if I dont seem willing to sell my soul to save my dog. So I left My dog in their prodding hands. Three hours later, the vet phoned to say it was an infection (big surprise), and they had cleaned the area and bandaged her paw. But of course there is always more. She wanted to run one more blood test. Worried about the additional cost of a test that was unrelated to the toe, I asked how much and she said she didnt know. I asked if it was expensive, and the vet actually said, "well what does expensive really mean anyway". I should have known I was in trouble then. So I agreed (again they make you feel like you dont love your pet otherwise). When it was finally time I went to pick up My dog, bracing for the bill. Apparently to my vet $1,081.98 isnt expensive to mend my dogs sore toe. Now I am as guilty as the next pet owner of the occasional frivolous purchase for my dog like a set of rubber boots, or the occasional Halloween costume, but even to me $1000 for a sore toe is a little extreme. Back in my non-Greenwich hometown, it would not even cost $1000 to remove her toe entirely. I had her spayed in New Jersey and it only cost $480 and that was surgery. And again, this wasnt even a real toe. Looking over the itemized bill I was in shock, and speechless, I didnt know what to do so I just paid the money. As I signed my Master card receipt, I thought about how I wouldnt even pay $1000 to make my own toe feel better, and I use my toe. Then again, my insurance company wouldnt allow my doctor to do all of those useless tests, but who is going to stop a vet? I am not an expert and am at their mercy. Its not like the tests were perhaps all unnecessary, but I do believe in another town the same tests would have cost a whole lot less. So now I sit here with my drugged up dog and her purple and blue-polka dotted bandaged paw – which by the way cost $46.20 for them to dress. But I am no longer angry. I have spent thousands at this particular vet over the past 3 years and this, I have realized, is the best $1000 I have spent because of all I have learned. Here are my lessons: 1) I will never go back to them and be slowly ripped off on a per test basis. 2) Always question the costs and each tests necessity 3) Ensure my dog gets the exact same treatment at the vet that I would get at my doctor. I.e. I wouldnt check myself in for the day to run tests for an infected thumb. So why do it for my dog? After all, there is an economic crisis. And as a friend, I know these economic times are tough for many of you. So heres some free advice: Dont take your pet to Greenwich Veterinary Hospital.

DO NOT GO. I brought my dog to Dr. Sean Bell with the SOLE purpose of testing for a urinary tract infection--having urinalysis. I told Dr.Bell, "NO UNNECESSARY TESTS," as the dog and I were in the Greenwich area for two days and she was scheduled to see her regular vet in a few days. Dr. Bell ignored me and gave me a bill for just about $1000. When I looked dumbfounded, he said that he hoped I didnt mind that he took the liberty of performing a variety of tests (which didnt relate to a possible UTI). When I challenged Dr.Bell, he wrote a letter with a lie that is demonstrated as such by my dogs medical records. (I have it in a file, along with other documents that discredit Dr.Bell.) When I offered to assume responsibility for part of the bill, he refused. If you go to Greenwich Veterinary Center, you run the risk of unnecessarily exposing your dog to serious things like radiation and stress and, plainly put, of being entirely ripped off by Dr. Sean Bell.

Dr. Bell asked me to leave a review as I left yesterday, and I am happy to do it for him. He has been my vet for the past 4 years since I moved to Greenwich, and has done an amazing job caring for my cats who are not the easiest animals to deal with. I am shocked that someone could have said anything negative about this practice, and very saddened to hear that as he is a very important part of our lives. The fact that people would complain about having to pay for quality veterinary services is pathetic. I will continue to use this practice and I recommend it to all of my friends and family who are in the area. The staff at Greenwich Vet truly care about the well being of my pets and they are by far the best in the area.

We brought our newly adopted puppy to this place. He had already had all of his shots, but they insisted he needed them again as 11 weeks was too young for the first round. The bill for all the shots was around $600!! I checked the bill and they had added on a shot that was only for sick ADULT dogs and a pill which he had already had for deworming a month previous which he did not need again. They refunded the accidental $85 extra charged and let us return the pill which was $35. We were looking for a nice HONEST place to bring our dog to and this wont be it.

I am very happy with the care my pets have had over the last 2 years. They are thorough, carrying, communicative and I love their new location. Vets are expensive no matter where you go; if you neglect your pet and dont get it regular visits expect to pay to bring your pet up to what is considered regular maintenance and to establish a history record so the vet has something to go on in the future. Vets dont have crystal balls. Pets have to have checkups just like people on a regular basis.
