I recently bought a Groupon to have my eyes checked and purchase glasses. This has been the worst experience Ive ever had receiving this service. Dr. Derickson doesnt listen to his clients. After my exam, he recommended progressive lenses. I told him that I didnt like progressive lenses and had been using distance glasses when I drive, watch movies, etc. and reading glasses when reading. He said I should wear glasses all the time. I told him I have neve done that before as my eyesight wasnt that bad. After he printed my prescription, I chose the frames I wanted (only designer frames available which are ridculously expensive) and explained all of this again to the woman ordering my glasses regardless of what Dr. Derickson put on my prescription. When my glasses arrived 2 weeks later, they were so blurry I couldnt see. She told me to wear them for a week, all the time, and my eyes would adjust. AGAIN, I told her that I dont wear glasses all the time. But, I took the glasses and wore them when I needed distance lenses until I almost had an accident because I couldnt see while driving and went back to using my old glasses. I went back and Dr. Derickson changed my prescription and said it was different because I wasnt wearing progressive lenses. I thought this was "fishy" so I called the Optomalogist (medical doctor) that I saw for years when I lived in Tallahassee. When he returned my call I told him what happened and read the 2 completely different prescriptions I received. He told me that the prescriptions should not be different regardless of the type of lenses I wore (the reading part of the prescription changed too). He suggested that I find a qualified professional to examine my eyes. Dr. Derickson also told me I didnt need my eyes dialited, that he could tell by his "machines" that my eyes were fine. I am now waiting for my "new" prescription to arrive even though I have no confidence in Dr. Dericksons ability to take care of my eyes. I have asked for a refund twice so I could go to another doctor but have been told that Dr. Derickson refuses to provide me a refund. My advice...FIND A REAL EYE DOCTOR. This place relies on fancy machines and not knowledge and ability and doesnt listen to the patients needs.

I have been seeing Dr. Derickson for vision services for over a decade now. I went the first time because everyone in my family was a patient there and they were all raving about how great the service was there. Now I find myself the one who raves about it. My vision history has certainly had its ups and downs over the years. As a child, I had to have 36 slivers of glass removed from my left eye after a rock was thrown into my glasses. Thankfully I had no corneal scarring, but it has affected the fit and efficiency of contact lenses since then. Derickson has worked thoughtfully and patiently with me to always find the best method of vision correction for me, in spite of my steep astigmatism, my light sensitivity, my severe nearsightedness, my chronic dry eyes and now, as I am aging, my need for tri-focal correction. His office is always pleasant and the staff is knowledgeable, polite and responsive. There have been times when I have not had vision insurance and they have carefully put together contacts or glasses for me that are attractive, affordable and meet all of my visual health needs. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough. I have been under the care of many visual health professionals since I first needed glasses as a small child, and by far, Derickson Vision Consultants has been the most professional and easiest to work with. And now they have added Hearing services just in time, so hopefully soon my family doesnt have to keep repeating themselves so much!

I visited Derickson Vision today for my first annual eye examination with his office. I was very pleased with the helpful and courteous staff. There was no wait to speak of and I was seen at my designated appointment time. They used modern computerized equipment to assess the condition of my vision and it took much less time to complete than other examinations I have experienced in the past at other offices. Dr. Derickson was polite, professional and knowledgeable. Although this was my first examination with him, other members of my family are currently his patients. In particular, Dr. Derickson identified my young sons vision problem, which had apparently been hampering him in school, and had gone undetected in all of the previous vision testing at another office. Thanks to Dr. Derickson, we were able to get the problem corrected and my sons grades improved almost immediately. This is which lead me to pick Dr. Derickson to be my vision specialist and I am transferring my other children to his care as well. During my visit, I also happened to notice that Dr. Derickson is qualified to conduct eye exams for aircraft pilots. I heartily recommend Dr. Derickson to anyone who might be need of a vision examination and care.

I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!! Stay away, I was told my frames were going to be rushed in less than two weeks. I called after two weeks and they were still not there. I was told they DO NOT DO REFUNDS, AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE READ THE FINE PRINT!!!!! HOW COULD I??? I WENT THERE BECAUSE MY EYE VISION IS BAD!!!! And then, then said they would do credit???? I needed my RX-glasses right away.. No courtesy calls to follow up no professionalism. And then they tell you "Go ahead and call your credit card company, your not going to win, your not the first one to try this. I HATE THIS PLACE, THEY DO NOT MAKE YOU AWARE OF THE NO MONEY BACK!!!!!!! DO NOT GO HERE STAY AWAY....STAY AWAY STAT AWAY...STAY AWAY..STAY AWAY...STAY AWAY...STAY AWAY... TAKES TOO LONG AND TOO OVER PRICED AND NO REFUNDS???? RIDICULOUS... STAY AWAY...STAY AWAY...STAY AWAY..STAY AWAY..... STAY AWAY.... FLORIDA LAW REQUIRES MERCHANTS WHO DO NOT PROVIDE REFUNDS TO POST THEIR POLICIES WHERE IT CAN BE READ BEFORE PURCHASING ANYTHING OTHERWISE THEY CANNOT LEGALLY ENFORCE THEIR POLICY OF NO MONEY BACK.

I am an airline pilot for a major airline, and I need (slight) corrective lenses for flying. Having not visited an eye doctor for many years since my vision had been stable, I was happy to find Dr. Derickson was an FAA-certified vision consultant. To enlighten non-pilots, the FAA is notoriously difficult to work with regarding medical and vision issues. They have good reasons, but it makes it difficult for pilots to maintain their medical certification with even minor issues like corrective lenses. I visited Dr. Derickson, and was very happy with the service I received from him and his staff. Randall especially took the time necessary to fit my new frames and lenses well. That is very important since my lenses are a tool I use to safely fly and land an airliner. They MUST work well, upon grave consequences if they dont! I highly recommend Dr. Derickson to any pilots needing vision care.

I wont trust anyone else with my eyes! My family moved to Texas five years ago (a long way from Jacksonville) and after several bad experiences with optometrists here in Texas with my children, I have made sure the last few years that vacation time includes a trip to Florida and an appointment at Derickson Vision Consultants. My children and I have rather unusual vision problems that few doctors know how to address. A simple vision exam will not provide the proper prescription since our problem is more muscular. Dr. Derickson understands the anatomy well enough to know what needs to be done to properly correct our vision. An improper prescription can actually worsen the condition and Im not willing to take that chance on my eyes or my childrens. Well see you next year!
