I don’t usually post reviews, but I feel that my recent experience with Dr. Bose at Prosperity Animal Clinic warrants one. Unfortunately, I’ve recently lost my 9-year-old boxer Chestnut to lymphoma. Dr. Bose was the primary vet and I feel that his negligent approach contributed to my pet’s death. I brought my pet in as soon as I noticed a couple of tumors and enlarged lymph nodes. During the checkup he told me that boxers are prone to cancer. I asked to do a biopsy on all the tumors, and he recommended we do the “tissue sample” biopsy instead of a needle aspirate, because the “tissue sample” is more accurate (and more expensive). While waiting on the test results we did a urine analysis to make sure he didn’t have a UTI. The test results took about 10 days to come back and in the meantime the tumors kept growing. According to the results all the tumors in question were fatty lipomas, with one having a small presence of lymphocytes. I asked him to interpret the results and he told me that the tumors are benign and not to worry about it. At this point the tumor under his jaw was quite large and I was worried that it kept growing, I asked what I should do about it and his response was that the tumors are fatty tissues and to just keep an on eye on it. Not satisfied with the answer, I decided to get a second option and went to another local vet, Harmony Animal Hospital. The vet there immediately noticed 5 more tumors/enlarged lymph nodes and did a local needle aspirate, from which she told me that my dog has lymphoma and that he has 4-6 weeks left if it goes untreated. Suffice it to say I was in shock since only a couple of weeks have passed since I brought him into Prosperity Animal Clinic where I received a totally different diagnosis. When I confronted Dr. Bose at Prosperity Animal Clinic with the results of the second opinion and and how is it possible that it took him 2 weeks to provide me with a false diagnosis and that Harmony Animal Hospital was able to do a needle aspirate on site and give me the diagnosis right there and then for a fraction of the cost, his response was that “he doesn’t feel comfortable doing a needle aspirate”. I started chemo shortly thereafter but by that time he had stage 4 T-cell lymphoma (although I think it was stage 5 lymphoma because it seemed to be in his nervous system and/or bone marrow). The chemo treatment did not go well and Chestnut only lasted on it 3 weeks. I was absolutely devastated to lose him. But I strongly feel that had this been caught earlier, when I originally brought him to be seen by Dr. Bose, the outcome would have been different. But how is it possible that doing a more expensive/definitive test produced false results? In my opinion, after consulting with other vets, the answer lies in the fact that the test was not done properly. The cells that were taken for analysis were the fatty cells around the tumor and not the actual tumor, which of courses resulted in the diagnosis of the pet not having cancer, when he actually did. Luckily or unluckily, I’ve never really had any major issues with Chestnut and thus had no idea how incompetent Dr. Bose was since he was able to handle any routine procedures without any issues. But having dealt with a vet like Harmony Animal Hospital I wish so much they were my primary vet. Not once did Dr. Bose check on me or my pet during this process. Nor did he offer any money back. But he did get in touch with his insurance for the fear that I may sue him. Writing this review won’t bring my pet back, but it will at least educate others and hopefully make them think twice about about bringing their pet to Prosperity Animal Clinic. I strongly feel that Dr. Bose’s negligent care and the precious time I wasted to get those results contributed to the advancing condition in my pet and ultimately resulted in the most aggressive stage of cancer. I feel confident that had Dr. Bose been able to go deeper and get the actual cells from the tumor or “felt comfortable” doing a needle aspirate on site, my dog would have been alive today.
