I have always enjoyed Vanessa Pickards thorough care over the last 1.5 years. However, the office staff and policies have been very frustrating and escalated to the point that Ive chosen to find a new family doctor. I was a patient for 1.5 years, mostly without any complaints other than the normal annoying wait in the lobby on a work day (my times important, too). Ive never met Dr. Procter, but worked with his LPs for medication and general family medicine issues. Dr. Pickard was always terrific. However, recently I called to schedule an appointment for my daughter who was really suffering with symptoms. I left a message to reschedule not 30 minutes after speaking with the staff. I usually receive a call back, but after a day, I decided to call and make sure we were good with the new appointment time. The response was that they "didnt get it". Ive left no less than 4 messages in the past with this office, all without issue. That day, after my appointment was filled, I spent hours driving my children to three separate CVS clinics in the area. I finally had to beg a doctor who was leaving the CVS clinic with their end-of-day trash in-hand to please open back up and treat my daughter. She did. I had to return to this office a week later to get a hand-written prescription and was charged $10. A doctor there prescribed that to me, it cannot be digitally sent to a pharmacy so I *have* to pick it up. I drive 20 minutes to get there when the doors open, deal with a rude receptionist, pay $10 to get a piece of paper, then drive 35 minutes to work, because this can only happen on a work day. Again, my time (and money) is important, too. I dont care for the reception staff. I dont care for the way they took no ownership of the appointment screw up. I dont care for the flippant and rude attitude of the receptionist when I pick up my prescription, or the policy to pay $10 or I dont get the medicine I need.

I went a few days ago as a new patient. I saw one of the PAs (which is not normal for a new patient visit) who was super nice, I have no complaints about her whatsoever, but as for the rest...I could do without. I had called the same day to have to PA call in my auth, and the next day I got a very polite call about how it was taken care of and everything should be good to go. In this same day, not even 4 hours later, I got another call, this time it was a different woman, and she was EXTREMELY RUDE: first off, she answered by saying is this so-and- sos mother (by the way I am an adult, why are you calling for my mother?) I said no, this is the actual patient. She proceeded to tell me that same thing I had already heard earlier that morning, but included the wrong info and was rude when I corrected her. I then asked why she was contacting my mother instead of myself, and she said "when we cant get ahold of you we call the next contact..." but she was calling MY phone number...this did not make sense. She continued on with INCORRECT INFO saying my mother was the guarantor (again IM AN ADULT she is not the guarantor) and thats why she was calling my mother.... I then said, shes only my emergency contact, not someone you need to contact primarily. She took me off speaker, picked up the phone and I kid you not, she said "Do you have a problem with me calling your mother." WHAT KIND OF QUESTION, STATEMENT, RESPONSE IS THAT?! I told her she does not need to contact my mother for anything seeing as she was calling MY PHONE NUMBER anyway....now Im worried that they have entered incorrect insurance info and I cant get anyone to call me back. This is so ridiculous!!!

My wife and I noticed that we constantly have a balance due(regardless of whether or not we had recently received service). It seems like every time I go in to either pick up a prescription or for a regular visit, there is an "outstanding balance," even though my wife and I are very diligent about always paying our medical bills (and all other bills for that matter) on time... usually at the time of service. We are fairly new to this practice, but we started noticing this trend soon after I began using them as my primary doctor. The latest suspicious financial activity came in the form of contact from a collections agency, for an outstanding balance... a balance I know I payed recently. The problem is, we received absolutely no form contact from the office informing us of a balance due, and were only made aware of the balance when I went in to pick up a prescription. My wife and I have a bad feeling about the practice and its financial management, and suspect some sort of systemic financial misconduct and general impropriety. I will be discontinuing my use of the practice, and will be recommending to others I know to stay away from the practice as well. Please take this into consideration if you are thinking about using McKinney Family Medicine for your primary medical care.

Choose another place for your medical needs. Believe me, even though I try to stay away I have been in clinics here Austin and Houston, and have to say this one is by far the worst. I will keep it short even though I have much to complain about in just four visits. For one, have only seen the Doctor once, for less than 5 mins on initial visit. Afterwards, have only seen overworked PAs and nurses. And of course reception, who is impossible to reach via phone so ends up in phone tag each time. From what Ive ascertained from my limited exposure to this office, I get the feeling the doctor and his management runs this place into the ground. Otherwise why would each and every person on the staff act so unfriendly and be unwilling to listen and help? I feel sorry for the staff most of all. And from the other negative reviews and average rating of just about 3 stars, seems like Im not alone in having nothing but negative experiences here. Again, go elsewhere. You will pay less and get treated more like a human than a number.

I switched doctors 6 months ago and it was my best move this year. I was seeing a female doctor in Allen, she never checked my hormone level. Thank goodness Dr. Proctor did. It explained many symptoms I couldnt understand. Recently I was suffering a migraine and his office returned my call within 20 minutes and made me an appointment within 2 hours. The other doctor I had took 9 hours to return my call, couldnt see me for two days then prescribed medication that no longer existed. With Dr. Proctor I was on my way back to health that same day. It was wonderful to be treated by a doctor and staff that actually cares about their patients.

I have been a patient of Dr. Procters since 2002. He is far and away the best physician that Ive ever been to. Period. Hands down. Dr. Procter is a rare breed in that he spends the time necessary - no matter how long it takes - to truly listen to you and effectively diagnosis and treat you. Dr. Procter is one of the most caring individuals Ive ever met; hed give you the shirt off his back. If youre in the McKinney, Frisco, Plano, or Allen area, there is no better physician around. I give Dr. Procter my highest possible recommendation.
