April 9, 2013 I was a patient at Kindred Rehab Hospital for two weeks in March 2013. I had spent eight weeks at Tampa General Hospital where I had undergone four open heart procedures due to total heart failure and struggled through several post-op complications including kidney failure, collapsed lungs, pancreatitis, loss of appetite and severe atrophy of the leg muscles which rendered me bed ridden most of the time. The open heart procedures were necessary to install two Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD). It was also determined by the heart transplant surgeons that my heart was in total failure and a transplant was necessary. I was instructed that I needed to regain my strength so I can be added to the heart transplant list and thus required rehab services not only to regain the use of my muscles but also rebuild my overall strength and endurance. My two-week stay at Kindred help me tremendously and my recovery was accelerated thanks to the outstanding care provided by the Kindred staff. The focus of my stay at Kindred was restoring my leg muscles in order to walk independently again. I quickly realized that the entire Kindred staff genuinely cared about my well being and also very determined to provide the rehab care required in order to return me to an improved physical state. My relatively quick recovery would not have been possible without the dedication of the professional staff at Kindred. I would like to recognize the following individuals that were mainly dedicated to my treatment and provided “extra special” care to me during my stay at Kindred: • Physical Therapist Yvette – Yvette was absolutely determined to get me back on my feet and walking independently once again within a short period of time. I was skeptical that I could accomplish this feat even with the most strenuous physical therapy program. However, Yvette’s determination, professionalism, confidence in my abilities, and excellent plan for my recovery proved to be a total success. I was walking the Kindred hallways without the assistance of a walker or wheelchair within 10 days! I am forever thankful to Yvette for getting back on me feet. • Nurse Krista – I am not sure I can adequately describe the level of care provided to me by Krista. She played several roles in addition to her excellent nursing duties including marriage counselor, therapist, minister, coach. Krista show genuine concern for my well being and was always there for me when I needed assistance. I am not sure how I can ever thank her. I will never forget her. • Nurse Marie – Marie also spent several shifts as my nurse and was always available to provide in-depth knowledge of my condition. She no doubt possesses an extraordinary depth of knowledge in nursing and was able make my day to day recovery much more comfortable. It was a pleasure to witness her high degree of professionalism and vast knowledge of nursing as well as her experience with the VAD procedures and equipment. Marie is definitely a health care professional that sets the standard for the nursing profession. I thank her for dedication to my care and recovery! I rate the overall care and rehab services at the “Outstanding” level. I would be willing to recommend Kindred to anyone that requires rehab services and will return to Kindred if I ever require rehab services again. My wife and I want to thank Julie Feasel, Sandy, Nancy and the entire staff at Kindred Rehabilitation Hospital for the high level of professionalism and genuine concern for my immediate rehabilitation as well as my long term recovery. With kind regards, Joseph Macey

I have been at Kindred Hospital Bay Area Tampa for approximately 4 weeks for after care. The first thing I noticed was how the staff were so nice and caring to me. It was like staying at a five star hotel (Hilton)! Ha Ha! No, really, the food is great and you can have a little as you want or as much as you want and snacks when you like. As a patient I was in pain all day and all night. Most of the nurses know how much pain I was in and they would ask my pain level, 1 to 10. Nurse Angie was the best at this. She was always on time when my meds were due or needed! She also returned an item to the store for me on her own time and I thank her very, very much! Another good thing about Kindred Hospital Tampa, you can stay with your loved one over night if you wish. And you can visit your loved one anytime you want as there are no visiting hours. As for the CNAs here at Kindred, anything and everything you need they will get for you or do for you! So I would also like to thank the following people for their help: Angelica; Bob; Kyle; Victoria; Lisa; Yuki; and Josephine. Thank you to all of the CNAs! Thank you also to the Nurses and RTs. Here is a list of many who sincerely touched my heart: Liz; Ann; Annabell; Teresa; Jennifer; Gloria; Johnnie; David O; Patrick; Lisa; Laura; Carmen; Chanka; Bernard; Marissa; Yearney; Zena; Yennylen; Amelia; and Darlene. Also you have Physical Therapy and Rehab staff to help you get back to being active again. I would like to specifically mention Yvette and Lincoln as well as Muna and Shital. When I mentioned the food at Kindred Hospital Tampa I would like to mention some of the team from food services. They make the food taste so good! Thank you to JoAnn; Ellen; Taquisha; Felicia; Rosa and Robert. Maintanence and Housekeeping were awesome too, especially Cedric! This staff is there for you everyday and I want to recognize and thank them as well. Thank you to Mindy;Jose; Josh; Julie; Cedric; and Floyd. A special mention to Steven in Materials for his extra care and effort for me as well. Also I want to thank the Pharmacy ladies including Angela;Roxanne; Anu; Candace; Laura and Jennie. Also my x-ray tech, Carol for being so nice and careful not to hurt me during the xrays to prevent anymore pain than I was already in. She also made me laugh!I also want to thank the supervisors who took care of any problem or issues I may have had. They are Sandy; Nancy; Sue; Brandi and Marisol. And finally, my favorite person that was here almost everyday I was and she called the kitchen for extra food or drinks if I needed it and made my appointments for me and she would locate my nurse; CNA; supervisor or doctor as I needed. This Angel is the unit clerk, Janna. She is the BEST! I want to thank my case manager, Charsetta. I also want to thank my doctor, Dr. Laurence, who came to check on me everyday, rain or shine. She is the best! Thank you very much! God Bless you all! Sincerely, Robert Tellier.....To Be Continued....

This is to the (great nurse), written Sept. 4th 2010, proud to be a Kindred employee. I admire the nobleness to your current employee, Kindred hospital and rehab center off of Manhatton Ave. Tampa Florida. You failed to give identification as to your designated duties and your level of education you have had in critical care, involving intensive care medicine. You say your orientation lasted a month. Do you really believe you have a handle on all the happenings at Kindred. A month of orientation may give you some idea of how to change a patients diaper. That’s all. You have contradicted yourself by referring to your facility for the critically sick. For you are evidently and apparently under the mistaken belief or delusion that your facilities main function is a final putrefaction or rotting actions of our loved ones. You are incapable of grasping the conscious comprehension of the outrageous, immoral, hideous, evil, and immoral principles and values of practice, so well rehearsed, that it is not a surprise to us that you misunderstand the object of your facility. It advertises itself as a rehab center, a hospital that credits itself as a place of healing, a place rehabilitation. You see all of our loved ones were sent there listed as medically stable only in need of rehab. We did not come to your facility to die, we were sent there for rehab. Only a decline in our health started almost immediately, with symptoms disregarded or misdiagnosed by nursing staff as anxiety. You have no idea of the sufferings our loved ones went through. You have no idea of the witnessed neglect, the disrespect and indifference to our loved ones pain. Not allowed proper monitoring of oxygen saturation levels, by declining mandated monitoring, access to nearby hospital with all the present existing medical expertise and equipment deemed indispensible and crucial for critical care. You fail to realize that when our loved ones came to your facility it was for rehab. It was not for cross contamination of pathogens entering their systems ending in multiple organ failure, brain damage, or death. So to you I say, when you have witnessed a slow suffocation, organ failure, internal hemorrhage all with complete disregard to your loved one, by your staff, when you have witnessed, then you can speak. Your facility can not care for the critically ill, so if your patients are critically ill your facility is breaking the law by not seeking out a hospital to care for the critically ill patient. For your facility is incapable. Lawrence’s Mom
