First of all please allow me to say that although Im not a veteran, I am still very proud of our Charles George VAMC in Oteen, NC. Now, my reasons. I have Parkinsons disease. On July 27th, 2015 at 9:50AM we arrived at the CGVAMC, we meaning my father-in-law and I. He doesnt like to drive to Asheville, NC so I often taken him. We were met by the valet parking guys and they gave me a receipt for my van and I left it for them to park. My father-in-laws appointments went well, but I had set my medication in my meds bag in the rear floor board of my mini-van and so forgot to take them in with me when we got out of the car. Im a little absent-minded no relation to the Parkinsons, and because I had laid my meds bag in the rear of my van, I forgot to take it in the facility with me. Several hours passed. I take my second round of meds at 11:30AM, and as 11 oclock came and went I began to get a little nervous. Well, driving is one of the stressors that cause these medications to wear off sooner, so needless to say I was not only becoming quite nervous but also more lethargic and blank faced as time went on. I texted my wife who said in her return text, "just take it easy and Daddy will be there Im sure in a minute." This didnt and couldnt make me feel better. So, I got myself up and walked out to the valet attendant to whom I explained everything about my situation, and he said, "No problem Sir, Ill have your medications up here in just a moment if youd like to sit down." I thanked him for helping me and he again said, "Its quite alright Sir, we have this kind of thing happen all the time." The retrieving valet (different from the one I was speaking too) went and got my meds bag out of my van and brought it to me and he thanked me and said, "glad we could help." This goes above and beyond the call in my book and these attendants deserve our attention and praise for the job they do. They will not take tips either and have signage posted for patrons not to offer tips.

I had no problem walking into the ER 4/4/2016 (yesterday). This is my first time at this VA Medical Center, they laterally put my information in while I waited for 4mins and I was seated. I was referred to this VA by my PCM in Spartanburg and am more than happy with the recommendation. The nurses are really nice, the doctors are engaging and the social worker was thorough they all have complemented each other. The staff is very effective working extremely efficiently within the hosiptal located within the city size. I have been to the VA Hospital in DC, Detroit, Columbia, Houston, Richmond V.A. and the VA Medical Center in Asheville NC is the best, hands up whoot whoot seriously. This VA Medical Center built enviroment is appropriate for maximum operations functionality. I will be submitting a request to have my PCP changed to this location. I think I this is my last night in the ICU, my throat was really swollen. Lots of problems swallowing, sleeping, fever, most of my symptoms have reduced dramatically. I can speak again! Scale 2 to 10 swallowing problems, throat is still swollen aliitle, but at least I could eat today. Multiple doctors checking me out daily and the nurses make me feel very comfortable with the treatment. Im not in a hurry to leave tomorrow. If have to stay an additional day after tomorrow the advise based on my condition will be confidently recieved.

I worked at Charles George from 1996-2012. I had a co worker that faked he was a combat veteran with issues - he was never in combat. He harassed and abused black patients and also a black female co worker. He let go of a patient that was agitated and caused three employees to be hurt. He even went so far as to tell me he hoped I enjoyed my concussion vacation. It finally culminated in him assaulting me. The VA did little to protect my rights. In fact the VA police were were kind enough to take a testimony of a person that was not even there when I was assaulted. If the VA wants to challenge me have all those involved in my case sign releases of their testimonies for the public to read and for AG Sessions to review for perjury-this includes all investigations from Washington (unedited). This includes the security tapes in front of my former managers office (to show who visited you an awful lot). If I was wrong why was I given the right to sue? The public will see clearly the American Veteran deserves better and the entire VA system needs to be made private. The problem is the Veterans Administration is a sociopathic organism. Criminals literally hide behind being veterans and serving the Vet. Free the Veteran so they can get the best health care of their choosing.

I came up to Asheville from Anderson area on a Tuesday to be seen in the emergency room . I was greeted sincerely, triage d in a very short period of time with a young man who asked detailed questions but was not stuffy about it, taken back to see an ER doctor who took his time, asked plenty of questions about my current condition, told me what he was able to help me with today, had X-Rays taken, gave me something for pain, told me he would follow up with the Ortho docs when they got out of surgery and make sure a consult is made to be seen as soon as possible. I was admitted @ 9:40 and was on my way home @ 10:50. Wonderful people, smiling, genuine concern and I was overwhelmed by the efficiency at how everything was handled. I wish the VA system had less of a noose around things, I bet I could have been seen and admitted as a patient for surgery if the Docs had their way about it. Thanks for everything. I look forward to my next visit.

They dont care about you to pick up the phone and help you. Ive called and left messages about worsening symptoms-- no one calls me back. Ive left nurse messages and no one calls me back. Ive asked to get an outside referral which I KNOW is possible (confirmed by 3 sources) and they tell me that they would be happy to provide it, but it isnt offered. They wont even call the facility to find out how its coded. They just say its not available. Ive contact patient advocates so many times and thats a joke. They wont help you if you dont pick up the phone when they call back. They dont attempt to call you back again. And if you do pick up the phone, they will only help you for 30-60 minutes by basically relaying messages. I received MUCH better care at the Orlando, VA. If you like health care professionals who dont give a damn about you, then this is the place to go.

Ridiculous, pathetic. already a widow from V.As pathetic Suboxen clinic they shove down already sober veterans throats to this problem now of NO help getting therapy for a severely disabled veteran. Had to drive two hours away to the closest regional V.A because all others have waiting list of 6 months or more, and still no help because if you are 15 minutes late you have to reschedule. I am a normal civilian trying to get a disabled person a freaking appointment and i can not get it accomplished, it took me 3 months of phone calls being bounced back and fourth to find out where and how to even get him enrolled and now this., No wonder there are so many suicides a day. ANY VETERAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO WALK INTO ANY HOSPITAL OR DOCTORS OFFICE AND GET FREE TREATMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!
