In short, some of the staff at this hospital were rude, lazy, neglectful and extremely unprofessional. If youre pregnant please do not go to this hospital. Not only myself, but several others have had major issues here. This is my personal experience. I had my daughter here a couple months ago and it was by far my worst hospital experience to date. Most of the nursing staff assumed I wasnt going to deliver that day due to my age and the fact that this was my first child so I believe that was the main reason they ignored me. My first problem was the IV. The nurse who was giving me my iv had a difficult time locating the vein. On her first attempt she messed up and got blood all over me and the bed. Her second attempt put me in excruciating pain. When I told the head nurse she told me that the pain was common. Ive had several IVs before so I knew that my pain wasnt normal this time so I asked her again if she could atleast move it somewhere else to lessen the pain. She refused. Next was my back pain. A couple years ago I got into a car accident that injured my back, my contractions were already causing a large amount of pain but I was able to find a comfortable position on the bed that lessened it. A nurse came in and told me to lay on my side for the monitors. Laying on my side increased my back pain and I begged to lay back on my back. One nurse said I was able to but a few minutes afterwards another nurse told me to get back on my side even after I explained my problem. I ignored her until she gave up and left. I was put into a room around noon, the nurses came in set everything up and left. The only time I saw a nurse was when she wanted me on my side. 230 rolled around and my contractions were at their peak and I called a nurse in and asked for an epidural, instead she got my midwife to come check me which was a good thing because my midwife thought she was just going to walk in see how dilated I was and go back to another woman in labor. Nope. As she checked me she realized I was fully dilated and my daughter was coming. Within 20 minutes of her walking into the room, my daughter was born. Next, I was suppose to be given an antibiotic during labor for my childs safety. They did not provide it which meant after my daughter was born they had to do a blood test which took 24 hours to complete. Adding onto that, early into the next morning more nurses came in to get more blood from her because the original sample clotted. After labor, my midwife had informed a nurse that I was bleeding heavily and should be watched to see if Ill need something to stop it. About an hour afterwards, I had told that same nurse that I was loosing blood, the nurse said "no youre not. Youre just imagining it" and walked out. Another nurse had came in to change my bed sheets and when she did she noticed the large amount of blood and ran to get something to stop it. Back to my IV, I was told I was to stay for two nights due to my daughters blood results. The first night I had asked the downstairs nurses to remove my IV which was still causing me an immense amount of pain, I was unable to move my arm or my fingers without being in pain. They refused and said it has to stay in until Im discharged. They next morning I was moved upstairs and asked those nurses the same question. They immediately apologized for it causing me pain and removed it. Now, my contractions hurt but the only time I cried was when I was given the IV, a nurse who was there for to draw blood also commented about the IV not being inserted properly but was unable to fix the problems or convince the other nurses to. Seriously dont go here. I wish I wouldve done at home birth it wouldve been less painful.

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a DISGRACE!! They are neglectful and bordering on harmful. My 80 year old mother with a broken back and foot from a fall was basically ignored. Left in her bed for 4 hours AFTER asking to use the bathroom. So long that the nurse who finally came in said well your sheets are dry, well no kidding, it has been 4 HOURS!! Did she change the sheets and gown...nope! She didnt get those changed until a day and a half later. One night a toothless uncaring male nurse came in to give my mother a pill, she was in the middle of a negative reaction to another medication, unable to move or speak, he shoved the pill in her mouth and poured in some water and left. The pill dissolved in her mouth and poured out on the pillow, and the plastic cup he just dropped on her became wedge under her chin and neck for hours! The nurse practitioner that was covering for the doctor, never comes in to see her, never introduces himself, and while being wheeled to a CT scan, she had no idea why she was getting, blurts out in the HALLWAY, while she was being wheeled out, that "oh, yea you have a mass on your lung that they found on the ER x-ray" REALLY??? How many laws did that little episode break? HIPPA? PRIVACY ACT? not to mention how about some empathy? Now we wait almost 48 MORE hours and actually NEVER get the CT scan results...go figure. His name was Micheal, and after complaining about it, he was going to be "spoken to". I doubt it. After many more incidents l;like this, I requested my mother be moved to another hospital, THEN comes the response, the big wigs upstairs. Who seemed very concerned and empathetic. I was begged to give them another chance and to not move her, so I left her one more day since NOW there was a ridiculous amount of care being given, nurses in every 30 minutes, all concerned with my mothers comfort. Until I left for the night, then back to no nursing response for anything. So glad she was discharged the next day out of that nightmare of a hospital. I believe thy are bordering on Elder abuse, and they are DEFINITELY neglectful. Joint Commission certified? That is laughable, but the Joint Commission and the Florida State health board has my complaint and debating whether or not to contact an elder abuse attorney since my mother came out of that experience frightened, and depressed and full of anxiety about anyone caring for her, so maybe someone outside that place will take a look at the lack of care. As a side note, the ambulance driver who transferred my mother to Health South said he would rather DIE in the parking lot of BayFront then to EVER let them "treat" him for anything. Now, THAT says something if a medical professional has that strong of an opinion about it.

I was in this hospital on August 25th 2014 for a Hysterectomy. Prior to this, I have had other surgeries like a Myomectomy and 2 Laparoscopies. I had my other procedures in Tampa and was treated very well. I didnt have one single problem. Before I went into surgery everyone was very nice and accommodating. When I got out of surgery..........I was ignored. I spent 4 hours in severe pain with nurses leaving me alone for long periods of time and not getting the medication I needed to be comfortable. I have never felt so much pain and to feel it for 4 hours!!!!! When I finally did get a nurse, Sarah from the surgical room. She had zero bedside manner!!!! When she took me to my room she kicked the bed down hard to adjust the level of the bed......all I could feel was severe pain on top of severe pain. Then another nurse came to ask me if I needed help out of my bed and Sarah answered for me saying, "No she can walk." Yes, I can walk, but I just had my uterus taken our of my body.......I needed someone to help me get out of the bed!!! On top of that, I still didnt have the proper medication and was dealing with the pain from surgery and no real medication. When Sarah did bring me to my room. I had to wait in the hallway because my room was not clean or ready. When I finally got to my bed......my family came to sit in with me. They noticed a transportable toilet sitting by my bed. They smelled something funny and opened it. There was still feces in it!!!! The head nurse who was the daytime shift, left used needles on my bed. That evening I ended up being nauseous and in severe pain again. It took 2 to 3 hours before I was taken care of. It seemed like there was never a nurse to take care of me. I am strong when it comes to pain, so please understand that for me to complain about this.....it is severe!!! It seemed as though not one person really cared about was happening to me! In the a.m. I finally had a nurse that they brought in from ICU who was very kind. This is a TERRIBLE HOSPITAL!!!!
