I feel bad saying I "hated" it, but I did. This is just one story, but since no other ratings are here, Ill give it a go. It was 2 years ago, but nothing about my experience was good except check-out. The complex is huge, there are many doctors, and they all share one "glasses store", so to speak. I kind of felt as if I was at a big box store rather than a doctors office. Didnt feel personal at all. Then, got in the docs office. She was nice enough, but didnt spend long with me. Then, she asked if I wanted to "stick with the same contacts" Id been wearing for the past several years. I said, "yes, I love these." She said shed send the tech in to figure out which kind they were. This is when it went downhill. The contact technician was out to lunch. Seriously? With 10 docs, the only contact technician wasnt there? So, some other lady came in to "help".. I wish I could remember this ladys name, but I cant. I told her I still wore a permanent (not disposable) CIBA Vision lens. Apparently, this is unheard of. According to her, everyone wears disposable, for crying out loud. (This attitude started the moment she busted into the room..). She treated me like a child, talking to others about me in front of me, but not directly to me. She was just downright bothered to be there. Since my prescription hadnt changed, Id had the same pair of contacts for 4 years (if shed been in the room 5 minutes earlier, she would have heard the other tech talking about how incredibly clean they were), but instead, she assumed I was crazy and that they must be disgusting and that I couldnt possibly be taking care of my eyes. I thought I had left town and gone to hell for a few minutes.. I told her "well, if you cannot find these, I could go with something else".. still, didnt talk to me.. just talking "about me" out loud.. very strange and really inappropriate. I have literally never been treated so poorly by a staff person in a doctors office. I got my new prescription and got out of there. Didnt even buy contacts from them. Frankly, I didnt want to give them any more of my business.

Apparently things have not changed since 1/1/11. We were referred to this office by the rehab hospital where my husband spent nearly 6 weeks recovering from a major stroke. On the day of our first (and LAST!) visit we were scheduled to see the doctor at 12:45 PM. At 1:30 I asked a receptionist if we had been forgotten since we had been sitting in the train station-esque waiting room since noon. Apparently a tech should have taken my husband into an exam room for a visual fields test. When summoned to administer the test a sullen somewhat rude young woman whisked him off to a broom closet sized dimly illuminated room . The test was not adequately explained and since (like many stroke patients) my husband has difficulty understanding and following directions even when clearly given, he was confused as to what was expected of him. We then waited for another 40 minutes. Once again I asked if we were going to see the doctor. We should have left then! The doctor was brusque, totally lacking in compassion and didnt bother to get a detailed history as to the reason for our visit. He essentially told my husband that there was no hope for improvement in his vision and that he should get used to not being able to do any of the things he enjoyed before the stroke. He walked out of the room leaving the door open while my husband began sobbing uncontrollably. The nurse (who was friendly and professional) thoughtfully closed the door to give us time to get control of our emotions. It was 4:15 before we were able to leave. We will not be returning for our follow-up visit and will never refer a patient to this group. (We are both physicians.)

We are both patients of Bill Haynes at their main Asheville location and could not be more pleased with the quality of service provided. We both have serious problems that could result in blindness if not monitored and controlled. Under Dr. Haynes direction we both receive close scrutiny, good medications, and knowledgeable incite into our maladies and their handling. The staff is professional, co-ordinated, friendly, helpful, and diligent. Dr. Haynes was recommended to us by our doctor in Connecticut who also graduated from Duke and contacted the head of the eye dept of the medical school at Duke for a recommendation for the most knowledgeable glaucoma specialist in Asheville. He recommended Bill Haynes. While extremely busy and occasionally behind schedule, he is very thorough and unrushed, spending as much or as little time as the visit requires. He always answers questions completely and takes the extra time to make sure that you are satisfied. The have an extensive eye glass business that is well run, has a nice selection, is staffed by very qualified people who take the time to serve you. They dont take eye glass insurances and are quite expensive. They have, in the past, given a discount to those having eye glass insurance. Weve stopped using this part of the service, looking for a different selection and ability to use our insurance coverage. Over all, excellent doctor in an excellent practice who provide quality and caring service.

Have been a patient for several years, for monitoring my retina for damages from a drug, and checking vision. Two cataract surgeries went well. Most recent experience was way above and beyond the usual. Cr. Haynes had checked my eye for damage related to Shingles near my eye, which can cause loss of vision, which prospect I found very threatening. A few days later I was driving, and had a sensation ofhot loiquid around my eye, and blinded me for a few seconds. After I was able to see, I called Asheville Eye, and asked if I should go there or to the ER. Dr. Haynes worked me in on a busy afternoon, and though he found no problem, I was treated with the greatest courtesy and reassurance, and told that as long as I could still see out of that eye, the shingles was not damaging it. The amazing thing is that I was treated with the same kindness and concern when I called the practice on a Sunday morning concerned about the eye, and again was treated respectfully, and given the same counsel. This was very reassuring, as I had several more of these very scary episodes, the next three times sitting in restaurants with friends. My shingles still cause pain, but symptoms gradually diminish over time, and I have known I could get expert help if the eye did start to give me problems with vision.

We’ve had had weeks of wildfire smoke in our skies so I wasn’t surprised when, after receiving injections in both eyes by Dr Cameron Stone,, my vision was a little “smoky” as we left the building. It was only after we had driven into the next county that I commented “I hadn’t expected the smoke to have reached this far.” and then heard my wife’s reply “But there isn’t any smoke here!” that I realized that my vison was indeed blurry, a situation I’d not felt during several years of treatment. So back we went to your office. On arrival I explained my situation to the receptionist, Helen, and was quickly taken into an exam room and given a vison test, which I failed miserably. A few minutes later I was being examined by Dr. Stone who took action and provided additional eyedrops to be used later. We certainly appreciate having Dr. Stone in your Retinal office here in Asheville. Glenn Palmer 11/18/2016
