My primary care physician sent a referral to this office over 30 days ago and I did not hear from them to schedule an appointment until two of my calls to coordinate this procedure were ignored and I, out of desperation, stopped by the office and still did not get scheduled. I finally received a call today (29 days later) attempting to schedule me for a consult in the very distant future. By the time I wait 2 months for the consult the procedure would not be until next year. My spouse has had this procedure performed twice by Dr. Alexander and was VERY pleased with the medical staff. The physicians and their staff are good but you will be stonewalled by their Administrative Diva desk. The office staff makes or breaks the feelings about the clinic. And petty bureaucrats who revel in whatever small amount of power they have clearly rule this office. .

Positive: My doctor and his team (Whitlock) were terrific and super professional. Negatives: Although I had scheduled my colonoscopy with Dr Whitlock weeks in advance, the administrator at the facility changed doctors on me -- and without telling me until I was in prep. Not cool. I had to fight to have the procedure done by the doctor I had requested. And the facility itself is like Grand Central Station. There are a ton of people coming & going. My prep room had rollicking country music piped into it -- not really to my taste and not very conducive to relaxing and feeling calm before going through a procedure. Once again, my team was just great and that is the most important thing. But I suggest to anyone considering have a procedure here, that you be proactive: call the day before to confirm your team, and then hold them to it!

I got a letter from them stating that it was time to schedule a colonoscopy. The letter said to call the "scheduler" Rene @ 407 4141. I did this several times over 3 weeks and never got through to a real person. I left 3 messages over 3 weeks and never got a response. Finally I called the main number 254 0881 to schedule. I explained my problem and instead of helping me the person who answered started to reprimand me for calling the "wrong number" and informed me of the steps I needed to go through to get scheduled. No apology, no help, just a lecture and another number to call. In my experience the quality and caliber of the front office usually reflects the qualify and caliber of the owners and managers, I will go elsewhere.

Currently waiting. My mother had a colonoscopy scheduled. We got there for her appointment only to be told it was cancelled. They had no record of anyone calling to confirm the appointment. All they did was text my mom, who realized she messed up and called and talked to someone who assured her that her appointment wasnt cancelled. All the office manager could tell us was to wait and they would do their best to get my mom back. She said their was a glitch in their system, I told them if its happened before then they need a new system or to leave a spot or two open for instances like this she said they couldnt do that. Well they need to do something this is a horrible first experience for me and my mother. We wont be back.

Friendly. Efficient. Safe. I went in for a routine colonoscopy and could not have been more impressed with their operation. Sure, it is a very busy practice, but at every step, (from initial intake, through pre-op, anesthetist, physician and recovery nurse) the staff were friendly, informative, efficient and caring. Most of all (and I pay attention to this as I am an RN) they adhered to all safety practices and procedures. At the end of the procedure, I was fully informed as to the findings during the procedure, given a written copy of my results, and safely escorted back to my car (and driver/friend). I highly recommend.

I have been a patient of Asheville Gastro for the past 9 years. I have had nothing but excellent care and prompt responses from my doctor and his staff. Dr. Newcomer is an amazing doctor. He truly cares, takes his time, researches and wants to do what is best to help his patients. His nurse, Kathy, is just as wonderful. She is an amazing asset to Asheville Gastro. Endoscopy services are professional and they do everything to make the experience of a procedure easy and painless. I highly recommend this practice for all your gastroenterology needs.

This practice is TERRIBLE and its the only one in town. Hendersonville GI is soon to be absorbed by them. No follow-through from apt-apt: its like starting fresh each apt: an entire year has passed and Im no further along with my problems. All communication in between apts is through the nurse, who emails the doctor, who emails the nurse back. It can take several calls just to get your message across and several more to get your questions addressed. Terrible service, terrible care. Simply TERRIBLE.

This place. Ugh. Dont worry about telling the doctors what medicines make you crazy when getting an EGD (or any other procedure, probably). They will give you the drugs anyway and then treat you like crap while youre having a reaction. And if youre in pain after a procedure? Forget about help there. Theyll treat you like crap until they discharge you. At least that was my experience. Absolutely horrid patient care. Very rude. Very mean. I wouldnt return here if my life depended on it. Beyond ridiculous.

This practice only bills as an out patient facility, which if you have BCBS of NC, then youll have to meet your deductible first before receiving any insurance benefits, rather than just having to pay the co-pay. So I dont know why BCBS chose this place as an in service provider. My understanding is that Asheville Gastroenterology wouldnt lower their costs in order to be able to work with BCBS. So, it seems that since they cant come to an agreement, then its all about the money and not the care.

It is difficult to get an initial appointment. My husband has called more than six times over the last week, and no one returns his calls. I have had several procedures - endoscopy, colonoscopy, swallowed a camera, etc. all to try and locate the source of blood loss. It has been more than two years, and still no answer, and no help. Frustrating because there is no other convenient source. If there were options, we would most definitely go elsewhere.

if you need a colonoscopy this is the place, very friendly staff from nurses and receptionists to the doctor i had dr harlan,he did the procedure, asked about my sedation preferance, and when i felt pressure it was taken care of right away,it was over in 20 min. and only one tiny polyp was removed as i watched on a tv screen, went to lunch afterward and felt fine ,highly recommend this clinic and dr harlan!

Was scheduled - by them - for a second endoscopy follow up, expecting that they had some need to see me. They checked my current medications, told me the same things as the first follow up and charged me for it. They are the only game in Asheville and behave like it. Procedures are done well but their business practices are unwarranted and they are defensive as a monopoly often is.
