Never in my life have I had a more miserable experience than the one I had at Critter Fixer this weekend. I have an amazingly docile, calm and sociable cat. Hes about 4 years old, and there has never been a person whos walked through my door who he hasnt immediately snuggled up against and loved. Today, for the very first time in his entire little cat life, he bit me. He bit me because of 3 hours of standing in line in the sweltering heat of a Texas summer, surrounded by unrestrained dogs and apathetic, disinterested employees who never once had his livelihood (or mine, for that matter) in mind. We didnt know what we were getting into today when we got in line. Ive never had a vaccination program be anything more than just a 3-minute "stick and done", but in this place, the vets take some time to help each of the dogs and cats write their own autobiographies, in the process upselling them on every bottle of every product that their store sells. In many ways, it felt like a car mechanic for pets...youd walk in wanting an oil change and walk out with new tires. After 3 hours of standing in a poorly planned, increasingly hot building with sterile white walls and pet hair everywhere, the single veterinarian on staff finally strolled casually over to my pet. By this point, the little fella had countless other poorly-managed pets clawing at his cage, and had sat in those claustrophobic quarters for longer than a trip to Austin. I know my brave little fella, though, and I figured hed be strong for the few minutes it took to get everything done. Well, I was wrong. When the vet started brandishing the various deep-gauge syringes in front of his carrier, I think something in the little guy snapped. All the stress, the heat, the stimulation...it was too much. I tried to coax him out, and he bit me squarely on the arm. As soon as he did, the already-disinterested vet threw her hands up in the air and immediately cancelled everything. She handed me my receipt back, and they refunded me, and that was the end of that. There was never an apology. Not even so much as a bottle of water for the three hours of my life that Ill never get back, struggling with my anxiety disorder in a crowded room full of terrible people and their terrible pets. Not even a smidgen of empathy for the year they likely chopped off my cats life expectancy in creating such a horrendous environment for the little guy. As soon as we got home, the once "aggressive" animal leaped out of his cage and into my arms, glad to be away from the trouble and the stress. Hes been snuggling alongside me ever since. I want to curl up in a ball and cry for hours just knowing the trauma I unwittingly put the guy through, and I want to hold him and tell him itll never happen again. Because it wont...not on my watch. Today, the "Critter Fixers" made an enemy out of a harmless duo, me and my pet, and made me regret ever finding them. They made my already hard day a little harder, and in the end left me with nothing to show for it but the haunting feeling that Ive done a terrible disservice to my cat, the only thing in this life thats ever stayed by my side this long. If youre looking for a place that cares, a place that will treat you and your pet like you matter in some small way to them...run. Run as fast as you can. Dont ever come here.

I hate how everyone bashes on this place. Ive gone to Critter Fixer for several years now. I like that they are a very low-vaccination facility. My old vet would give my dogs vaccines that I didnt approve of and not tell me about it until I saw the bill after they received the vaccines. Ive never had to worry about that with Critter Fixer. Many of the complaints come from people attending the low-cost clinic on Saturdays. Yes, its hot outside in the summer, come prepared to wait in line, outside. Its a low cost clinic so if a large crowd shows up, then you will wait a while. I was just at the clinic 2 weeks ago and brought a new rescue cat and my dog. Yea, it was extremely hot outside, so guess what? I sat the cat INSIDE in her kennel. You have options. Ive NEVER seen a dog not on a leash there, except for the little lap dogs. They even have free leashes there in case you forget your leash (or just want to take one to keep in the car for picking up stray dogs). So far Ive been to at least 7 of their vaccination clinics through the years and Ive never had a problem, or seen an issue. At the low-cost clinic, they always have the actual vets on hand. There was a lump found on one of my cats by the vet tech so the vet came over to take a look. She wasnt concerned with it, but she did a thorough exam to reach that point. One time I just mentioned that one of my cats kept throwing up. They immediately brought the vet over to talk to me about it and he spent a lot of time with me. I have had to wait hours and hours for an appointment before, a couple of appointments actually. You know why they have 5 stars from me still? One day my tiny yorkie got into some rat poisoning. I immediately called the clinic, which was nearing the end of a Saturday low-cost clinic. They told me to come see them immediately! My dad was rushing him there, but stalled some to try and pick up the poison to take there. When he didnt show within 20 min, they called me back and told me that time is of the essence. They ended up staying late that day to take care of my little yorkie. While Ive been waiting for hours, Ive seen them take in emergency walk-ins. They CARE about the animals. When your pet has an emergency and youre desperate for some help, youll hope that your vet will take you in too. My yorkie was neutered by them and I opted for the pre-blood work. The results came back that he had high liver levels. The vet herself called me and talked to me for 25 min on the phone about what this means and my options and how to proceed for the future. Ive never experienced such good service. I currently have 4 pets that attend critter fixer. Two cats and two dogs. I take all of my strays to their low cost clinic. I recommend them to everyone I know, but I warn them that they will have to wait for a long time past their scheduled appointment time.

I should have posted a great review of Critter Fixer a while ago. They are focused on what is best for your pet and your family. Let me preface this next paragraph with the fact that we love and care for our pets. We always vaccinate on schedule and never balk at buying the meds needed for keeping pets safe and healthy. We spend the extra ER fees when pets get into trouble without complaint and so on... In short, we dont skimp on our beloved pets. We came from a different vet in the area that seemed to overcharge for everything and try to shame pet parents into doing things that just didnt make sense for the pet or the pet parent. Case in point, a dachshund who had a sudden back issue that went from likelihood of survival of 80% to 40% in an hour... and the 40% would have meant $7000 surgery and months of painful recovery, if it worked... They made us feel guilty for not putting her through that. Critter Fixer is not like that at all. They truly care for the pets and the people that love them. They do low cost walk in pet vaccines every Saturday. Their office visit charges are very reasonable. They do everything that is needed, but dont, ever, do things that are unnecessary or will put a pet in more pain than needed. All, and I mean all, of the people that work there have been incredibly loving to us and our pets. They work hard to make it easy for someone to do what is right for their pet. Now, the icing on the cake... It is never easy to make the decision that it is time for a beloved pet to move on. We recently had to do that with a dog that has been with us for over 16yrs. We loved that dog so much and we did all kinds of things, without putting her in pain, to try to help her get better, but it just wasnt going to happen no matter what. When we showed up to euthanize her, everyone was incredibly respectful. They made sure we could chose whatever options we wanted to (stay in the room or not... cremate or not... if cremating individual cremation or not... etc...) After we expressed our wishes, they made it very clear that everything would move at our pace. And, in different phases of the process, we got hugs from folks helping her. All of that alone was more than wed ever experienced (and Im 50 yrs old). Today, to really cap off how much they care, we got a sympathy card with heartfelt wishes from everyone in the practice. We are so glad to have these wonderful people caring for our remaining pets.
