My elderly mother who has been a very long time client of Dr. Woods, recently boarded her two elderly dogs(10 and 15);Not their first time boarding there. The dogs had their Rabies vaccine, and a 5 way that covers the adeno virus (kennel cough) - typically required for boarding. The 5 way was ordered from Dr. Foster & Smith and administered by my mother (an R.N.), and the rabies was administered by Dr. Wood (along with dental work). ("a dog that is regularly vaccinated with a standard 5-way or 7-way vaccine, is already being protected against several of the agents causing tracheobronchitis aka kennel cough") My mother has been a client of Dr. Woods for close to a decade. 3 of her cats were obtained from Dr. Woods office. She never had an issue with the increases in pricing, and no matter where she lived, she always commuted to his office.(Shes the kind of senior lady who puts up individual stockings for each of her pets for the holiday...her pets are her babies.) I had offered to let her two old dogs board at my employers facility, but she insisted on Dr. Woods (we do 4 turnouts per day minimum, field times, cuddles, 2 feedings , pad elderly & handicapped dogs runs, and we log EVERYTHING.) His new vet tech decided that this 5-way vaccine wasnt enough and administered a Bordatello vaccination. (they had the dates of the vaccine, so they KNEW it was too soon) The eldest dog (15 yrs) was lethargic and had difficulty holding down her meals during her stay (a sign of a reaction to the over vaccination - recognizing the signs is listed under Part 2 AVMA CVTEA accreditation for a vet tech.). In all of the years of treatments, and boarding, Mom never had to worry when her two girls were boarded at Dr. Woods. Were now administering pedialyte, fortiflora on plain rice, and researching new vets because of the horrible reaction the elderly dog had to the over vaccination by his Vet Tech. (Dr. Wood has been that dogs vet since she was around 2 years of age) Dr. Wood is amazing, however the new staff that he has chosen to hire endangered the life of my mothers elderly dog and charged her for it. (They know the dog was vomiting, yet did nothing about it; they never even attempted to call my mother to notify her.) Its one thing to administer a vaccination because youre persnickity over a non Vet administering it, but its another to not notify the owner that the dog was having a severe reaction to the vaccination administered by the Vet Tech who decided that the 15 year old dog needed the extra vaccine.

A year ago I brought my cat in because she had vomited and diarrhea all over the house. She was VERY sick. I brought her for you to treat her. When I picked her up she was coated in dry urine from you not giving her a litter box to pee in all day. My already sick cat was allowed to not only pee on herself but it was allowed to dry on her. Your staff should be ashamed of itself to treat a sick animal this way. On top of that, you didnt run any of the tests I asked for. No blood test, no urine test. You gave her an antibiotic shot and a cortisone shot. Then you told me that shes old and I can expect this sort of thing. That is NOT true! It has been a year and through my own efforts, my cat is in much better health. Now, I told myself to try one more time with you. Maybe youre just better with dogs. My dog came up with a large spot of hair missing. The wound had green slime on it. It was definitely infected and needed attention. I dont know where it came from by I suspect his groomer nicked him and I didnt catch it. You gave him an antibiotic shot and then told me that he was past due for all of his shots so you had to give him all of those too. I had called your office the month before and asked when his shots were due because I thought it had been a while. Your staff told me that he was all caught up until NEXT YEAR. So my dog had been exposed to other dogs in a kennel situation without his shots being current. Then of course, he gets hurt and who knows what he was infected with. Well never know because again you didnt run any tests on him. After my dog gets home he peed in the floor that night. He has peed in our house EVERY day since seeing your vet. This has been 8 days of having to go home from work to walk him, get up early to walk him, basically just walk him every few hours so he doesnt pee in the house. This is a dog that has NEVER peed in our house for the 8 years we have owned him. He is a good dog and you have sorely mistreated him. Needless to say, were done with your sorry excuse of a vet hospital. You nearly killed my cat last year and wrote it off as old age. I dont know what youve done to my dog but they both deserve better than this.

Dr. Wood has been Maxs doctor for several years. He was recommended to us because we were told he could handle "difficult" dogs. Dr. Wood was amazing - like a dog whisperer. Previous vets slapped on a muzzle and had their staff hold him down. It was an awful experience for Max. But Dr. Wood took the extra time to get to know Max and make him comfortable. Recently Max became very ill. We dont have a lot of disposable income with 4 kids headed to college. But Max is a part of our family too. Dr. Wood was very careful to help us make the right decisions at the least amount of cost. Ive seen other reviews and knew I had to comment with a recent post. VitalPet or not, Maxs 4 day stay for observation, tests, and medication was VERY reasonable. I live in stone oak so I know the cost that can arise with veterinarian care. I drive across town to see Dr. Wood because of his care, his kind and loving staff, and because he is reasonable. Max is coming to the end of his time with us. We will go back to Dr. Wood if needed for Maxs final day so we can see it through together. I know he will give Max the dignity he deserves and the kindness he has always shown our "difficult" dog, who loves his family more than anything.

I am writing simply because the existing reviews of Northwood Animal Hospital are very outdated and a person interested in using this veterinary clinic should know that it is now part of a consortium of (at this point in time) about a dozen veterinary clinics throughout Texas called "VitalPet" (if you Google VitalPet you can obtain a full listing of participating clinics). I have taken several different pets to Northwood Animal Hospital for approximately 5-6 years. Sometime within the past year the changeover to VitalPet occurred; i.e., payments, etc. are all now made to "VitalPet." I have historically been satisfied with the care and services provided; the staff, in particular, has historically been very good. But do know that changes are taking/have taken place in the clinic, and you may encounter new people, and vets OTHER than Dr. Wood. The existing reviews, being so outdated, simply do not indicate these changes, so again, dont be surprised by new office staff, or that you dont have Dr. Wood as the actual attending vet for your pet, and that your payments are being made to "VitalPet," and not Dr. Wood or the Northwood Animal Hospital.
