I highly recommend this place to anyone. The receptionists are all very nice and helpful. And Dr. Kirby is amazing! At the beginning of August one of my 10 year old kitties had one of his fangs break off. I was thinking I was going to have to get him surgery to remove the root but I took him in to see Dr. Kirby (my first time there) and he did some blood work for him. Since my kitty is 10 years old and I dont remember when the last time he had blood work was, we thought it was a good idea. So everything came back great, and after the exam Dr. Kirby said we didnt need to remove the root. His gums were not swollen or bothered and he was eating fine and not in pain so we are all good to go. Then about 3 weeks later, my same kitty gets really sick. This ends up being completely unrelated to his tooth. It happened on a Sunday and I just started calling a bunch of places to see who was open and who I could take him to for a look because he was meowing like Ive never heard him meow before, and he was not moving much and seemed to be in pain when he lay a certain way. I ended up taking him to a place near my house that was open right then, since Alamo Heights Pet Clinic is closed on Sunday. But I had also messaged a friend of mine who reached out to Dr. Kirby on his cell for me. (I didnt have his cell so I didnt even think to call and ask if he could see Jack). So as Im at the other place, Dr. Kirby calls me to ask if Jack is already being seen by someone. Its about 2pm on a Sunday. He tells me if he wasnt already being seen he was going to have me take him in so he could look at him. Even on his day off when theyre closed he had already been to the office several times for other patients. I was blown away. I told him I was having him checked out right then when he called. So he told me to keep him updated on what they find with Jack. He genuinely cares and wanted the best for my kitty. He understands that they are more than just pets and they are family. That hes my fur baby. So I end up taking my kitty to an overnight emergency room, and then Monday morning transferring him to Alamo Heights Pet Clinic where he spent the next week and a half. I picked him up on Wednesday of the following week and he is back home, alive and happy. Jack ended up having a severe case of pancreatitis, and a fatty liver. He stopped eating on his own and had to be syringe fed. Dr. Kirby called me every morning with an update on Jack, and then said that my husband and I could go visit him anytime we wanted. So we went every day to visit with him, and to tell him to get better because everyone was rooting for him to pull through and come home. We visited every day except Sunday, but we still got a call from Dr. Kirby on Sunday with an update. Hed tell me how Jack did overnight, if he ate on his own, used the litter box, if there was still fluid in his abdomen, if there were any new test results that came back, what our next plan of action was, etc. Sometimes there were multiple calls during the day if he happened to get another test result mid day or in the evening. Sorry I know this is a long review but I just feel like it all needs to be said. I will keep taking my baby to Dr. Kirby and my other fur babies will also be going to him as well from now on. Its a no brainer. He is now their primary doctor and Im not switching to anyone else. Dr. Kirby also does whats needed to get my baby better, but doesnt do anything he doesnt think is necessary just to drain your wallet. Hes caring and considerate and very good at what he does.

My dog Cali tore her two rear ACLs about 6 months ago while we were out running one day (saw a squirrel and ran after it..lol). Cali is about 9 years old now, and Ill be honest, I absolutely feared for the worst. She couldnt walk at all and I seriously feared for her mental health since she had zero mobility. Got opinions from two different vets, and the conclusion was pretty much the same. She needed surgery and they both suggested taking her over to Stone Oak for that procedure. After getting quotes for the surgery that seemed quite high, I found Dr. Kirby via a recommendation from my Mom and took Cali over there for a third opinion. From day one, it was a no brainer. The moment I show up with Cali in my arms, someone is there to open the door for me, small things like that. The cost was FAR more reasonable than what I was quoted in Stone Oak (not trying to put anyone down, Im sure they would have done a great job, but not everyone has gobs of money to throw at their pet). Dr. Kirby was the bomb though! You can tell he really cares deeply about his job, as does everyone that works there. The day of the surgery, I left Cali there that morning and got a call later in the afternoon that everything had gone according to plan. I picked her up later in the week and brought her home. I actually called down to the office later that week with questions about medication and Dr. Kirby was busy and would have to call me back. Totally understandable. Well later that night I got a call at 9pm from him answering all of my questions. I dont think I have EVER had any sort of call like that past business hours. Absolutely amazing customer service honestly. Every time I went down to his office, it is pretty much standing room only because of all the animals there. For Dr. Kirby to actually call me back at 9pm same day (after Im sure he is dead tired after a day of work) is just pure dedication. So greatly appreciated. Cali only had surgery on one leg, and I am thrilled to say is back to walking several miles a day. Minus the scar on her leg, you cant even tell she tore two ACLs. Thank you everyone at Alamo Heights Pet Clinic!!! Yall rock!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALAMO HEIGHTS PET CLINIC to anyone who loves their pet!

I am very impressed with the work ethic and compassion the doctors and staff show towards animals. When my dog Bella a Red Heeler was on her way to doggie heaven, AHPC took her in when Banfield neglected all responsibility after recommending Apoquel for allergies. Bella was not the same after that drug and she passed away. Dr. Aldridge was very honest and did all she could and called all the cardiologist she could find in TX. I would have done anything to save her life but that allergy drug accelerated her death and the next day she passed away. Dr. Aldridge and staff was Amazing during the process. Ever since then, Ive been at AHPC and transferred my 4 cats and Australian Shepherd. Dr. Kirby is so awesome to call and answer any questions you have even if you dont go to his clinic. Dr. Fritz is kind and to the point and a gentleman. I now know that its very important to look at over all reviews. Maybe it would have helped in saving my dogs life. I highly recommend these veterinarians! Experienced, knowledgeble, kind and compassionate.
