NOT A PEDIATRIC PRACTICE My family (wife, 3 children currently aged 4, 5 and 8) has been going to this practice for the last 5 years. We started by seeing an associate dentist (non owner) for the first 2 years, and had very good experiences on a consistent basis. For the last 3 years, we have been seeing the owner’s son, and that is when my comfort level with the practice dropped, until this week when it fell off a cliff. The main issue I have is the lack of interaction with and feedback from the dentist. If you take your child there, the expectation is that the child (as young as 3) stays in the exam room unaccompanied. This is fine. What is unacceptable is the lack of parent interaction with the dentist. My expectation is that if a health care service provider is going to take custody of my child, even if for only 10-15 minutes, that I get briefed afterwards by the dentist himself (not the hygienist or tech). I am not looking for anything more than a 1 minute summary that summarizes what happened, and what comes next. This kind of parent briefing has not happened at any appointment I have been at. My child goes in, he is treated, then sent back out with a quick comment from the hygienist. In the incident that served as the tipping point for us, my 4 year old daughter went in to have a cavity filled. I escorted her to the room, and ended up staying (at the hygienists request) because my daughter wasn’t handling it well. The dentist (Rusty, owner’s son) walked in, didn’t say hello to me (bizarre) and went straight for my daughter. He neither addressed me nor explained what was happening, so I just watched as he struggled with her (not his fault, she was difficult). His bedside manner with her was ok. He used a visit to the ‘toy chest’ to try to get her to cooperate. It wasn’t working (again, not his fault). Halfway through, he asked me to step out so he could finish (I think he thought I was a distraction to my daughter, he didn’t say). I stepped out and waited just outside the room, because I knew if I went into the waiting room, I wouldn’t hear from Rusty on what happened. (Coincidentally, the dentist’s father, who had no idea who I was, happened to walk by while I waited in the hall and said ‘hello’ to me very pleasantly). After a few minutes, Rusty walked out and told me he was stopping the procedure. He got the filling in, but she wasn’t cooperating, and couldn’t finish, and that was that. Rather than going on to explain to me what work was done and what was left, I had to prod him. “What work is left? What is the impact to my daughter since the work wasn’t completed? Do we need to reschedule?” I then asked him if it would make sense for me to go back in with her so he could finish the job. He wouldn’t consider it. It was a very strange and terse back and forth. One thing which I heard him say to my daughter as he walked out (he didn’t know I was standing outside the room) was “well, now you don’t get to go to the treasure chest because you didn’t open your mouth for me”. This told me that Rusty has very little experience with children on both a personal and professional level. It would have been no skin off his back to personally try to escort her to the treasure chest to give her a toy, and consequently give her a positive memory of an otherwise tough visit to the dentist’s office. Not only did he not do that, he said that she couldn’t go...as if that would motivate her (again, a 4 year old) to cooperate on the next visit. The website indicates that they practice pediatric dentistry. My experience shows that they are woefully lacking in that area, and we will no longer be taking our children here for care.

I have been a patient of Dr. Fitton for the majority of my life and can honestly say that I could never be happier. Dr. Fitton and Dr. May are very knowledgeable in the area of dentistry and are surrounded by a helpful and caring staff to support them. Most people always dread the dentist office and before Barrington Dental I would too, but now I feel more at ease throughout the whole process. I never have to wait for a long period of time in the waiting area as they work hard to efficiently schedule each patient without rushing any procedure and paying attention to superior quality. Also, any time I have had an issue Dr. Fitton does not hesitate to call me back for immediate attention and make me feel more at ease about my teeth. My teeth have never looked better and I only have Dr. Fitton and the staff at Barrington Dental to thank for it!

This past weekend I was suffering from a terrible toothache. My entire face was swollen and I thought I was going to have to wait until Monday to see my regular dentist. One of my friends recommended Dr. Rusty and said his office has an on call number for the weekend. Even though I was not his patient, he was extremely friendly and accommodating over the phone. We agreed on a time to meet in his office and he was able to fix the issue. It was such a nice surprise to find a dentist that understands how debilitating tooth pain can be and was willing to take time out of his weekend to see me. He even called me today to see if I was feeling better. I very highly recommend him!

All around a pleasant experience. I have been a patient at Barrington Dental for over 15 years and have developed a great relationship with the crew. Dr. Fitton and co are passionate about what they do and it quickly becomes apparent in the quality of their work. Knowing that they would deliver, I have always been comfortable referring friends their way. I will always remember the time a friend needed an emergency appointment on a sunday and couldnt get a hold of his dentist. I made one quick phone call and Barrington Dental stepped up to the plate and helped my friend out of a jam. Needless to say, he is now a loyal patient of theirs.

Dr. Fitton and Dr. May are very knowledgeable and good at what they do. They have the best and brightest staff on hand to take you through every step of the way. I have recently received an implant. Im not kidding, I felt like I went in for a simple cleaning every visit through out the process. I couldnt have asked for a better experience in my situation. Great job and Thank you. Barrington Dental has literally put a smile back on my face!

Ive been a long time patient of Dr. Fittons and even after moving to the city I havent been able to find a better, more caring and passionate dentist, so Ive stayed with Barrington Dental. Ive had an array of procedures done at their offices, fillings, cleanings, adult braces and a root canal, the staff there is extremely attentive and helpful. Traci at the front desk was easy to work with and helped walk me through all of my insurance questions. I never dread going into the dentist as Im always greeted with a smile. I would highly recommend Barrington Dental to anyone looking for a new dentist.
