I was a big beautiful 6 year old Doberman Pincer, I was gentle as a lamb and never got upset with anything or anyone. Everybody loved me and I loved them back. On 04/07/10 Wednesday night I started coughing, the next day my owner took me to the Somis veterinary hospital. It was dirty and there was animal hair on the floor, the vet put a stethescope on my chest and said I did not have a heart murmer, diagnosed me with bronchitis, gave me a antibiotic shot and gave my owner antibiotic pills for me. On Saturday morning my cough was worse and I couldnt get my breath, I was gasping for air, I couldnt lay down, I had to stand up to breathe. My owners took me back to the Somis veterinary hospital, the vet checked me again and gave me another antibiotic shot, more pills, and told my owner I was congested, at this time my owner did not know, but my lungs were filling with my own blood, I was starting to go into cardiac arrest. By Saturday evening I was in very bad shape, I was shaking and started coughing up blood, my owners immediately took me to the Thousand Oaks pet emergency hospital. As soon as the vet put a stethescope on my chest she told my owners I was in cardiac arrest and was gravely ill, she called all of the other people there to help get me on a table, they all started working on me feverishly, they gave me shots, pills, shaved my legs and chest, put a oxygen mask on my mouth and put wires on me, then gave me a X-ray, I was very scared but did everything they wanted me to do. I kept looking back at my owners, I hadnt seen their faces looking like that before, the vet was talking to them and shaking her head, what was happening to me, why cant we go home? About a hour later my owners came into the room I was in, they looked scared and sad, they said goodbye to me, the vet gave me a shot again, things started to go dark, my owners kissed me one last time....................................This is what happened to our beautiful friend, and I will never forget the last look he gave me before he died. The Thousand Oaks vet told us that It was obvious what was wrong with our dog and how did the Somis vet miss it. I gave a one star rating only because the rating program wont let me give "no stars". I first visited Dr. Stanman and his wife at Somis Vet Hospital early this year after my 4 month old big puppy was attached at the Springville dog park. Another owner dog owner referred me there. They raved about the young but very thorough couple who recently purchased the Veterinary hospital. They raved about the major difference since the take over. I didnt take their advice at first and used a Vet off of Dawson under a bridge that a good friend had used for his puppies shots and this vet was closer. This was a mistake. Our puppys ear was split in half bleeding uncontrollably. We hurried in and asked to be seeing and explained our new puppy was just attacked. The office staff was the major problem. They kept us waiting for nearly 2 hours because we didnt have an appointment. Others who were in the waiting room grabbed us paper towels and tissue and helped us control the bleeding. One man even offered to allow us to go in front of them. We were finally seen and Piper received 8 stiches. My follow-up visit was starting to go bad- lots of abrasion from the office ladies. We walked out and called Somis, they told us to come right over. they removed her stiches and found a ear tumor on the lobe, tested it and explained what type of tumor and told me it would go away on its own- which it did. I didnt take the time to write a review then, but yesterday I had to rush my now 1 year old pup- Piper, back because she got into a new bottle of Dog aspirin and eat about 50 aspirin and she didnt look well at all. The FRIENDLY office lady, the doctors wife, once again told me to bring her right on down! The Doc gave her a shot to help vomit, and boy did it work!, a sedative, fluids to flush her system and charcoal to coat her intestine. The 8 stiches from the Dawson Vet cost me over $400. This entire visit with a prescription coast $179 and they took us back immediately! I have never had an emergency bill that low, ever! This morning when I woke up and checked on Piper, I thanks God for our Somis Vet.

Dr. Matt Stanman is an amazing veterinarian with a big heart that wants what is best for you and your pet. He will go out of his way to go above and beyond to ensure you receive quality care. He will have an honest, open one on one dialogue with you to determine what is needed to make sure your furry friend stays in good health so that they can live a long and happy life with you. He has a small town feel and shows no signs of the corporate-money hungry vet hospitals you sometimes come acrossed. Check out his reviews on Yelp too!

Our dog Ella started going into shock at home. I brought her to Dr. Stanman in Somis and he did an Xray and discovered that she had a massive bleeding tumor growing on her spleen. Emergency surgery was needed. Miraculously, she survived the removal of her spleen and it was a benign tumor. The staff were wonderful and his skill as a surgeon and diagnostician helped to save her life. Ella is still going strong after two years!

Dr. Stanman recently treated my dog, Buddy, for dental issues. He was very thorough yet practical, and genuinely cared for his well-being. I have had experiences with Veterinarians pushing unnecessary services, and I did not get this sense with Dr. Stanman. I am so glad to see this facility open under new ownership, and I will definitely be back.

Weve been with Somis Veterinary Hospital since before Dr. Stanman took over the business. Dr. Singh is great with our pets and the rates are very reasonable. Highly recommended.
