I had to take my daughter to CMC Emergency room May 23 11p for vomiting and dehydration. She was sitting in the waiting room vomiting bodily fluids in a wicker waste basket we bought from home. When I asked the receptionist if we could have a more private spot I was told "there is no room." When we were called back for her vital signs to be taken I asked the nurse if we could stay in the back because my daughter was vomitng her guts out and I was told NO... I HAD TO GO BACK TO THE WAITING AREA...with a wicker waste basked full of vomit. When we get to an ER room we sit for a while...now mind you...my daughter is dehydrated and dry heaving. Then when a nurse comes in...for the next 2 hours several nurses poke my daughters arms and hands looking for a vein...2 hours people...a Dr comes in takes a look at her and tells the nurse to go thru the neck if they cant find a vein...he never returns. The nurses continue to pokes my daughters hands looking for a vein. Finally they found a vein and left 2 other needles (not being used) in her hands for 3 HOURS...I have pictures. This is PITIFUL. Then the room is freeeezing...my daughter is cold and I am cold. They give us a couple of warm blankets after REPEATEDLY asking for them...it is still freeeezing...WE ARE TOLD WE CAN HAVE NO MORE BLANKETS. We have been in the hospital several hours now...I go out to the rest room to wash my hands and face and there is a drunk ***hole in the ER hallway cussing and staggering arounD the ER sayng rude comments to me and anyone else around...wheres Security? When I come back from the restroom they were in the room getting ready to wheel my daughter out saying the need to check her stomach. They return in a bit...I am not told what the flip they are doing; I dont think they know what they are doing. I ask what is wrong and am not given an answer. Another doctor comes in looks at my daughter and leaves. 8 hours after being in the most God awful conditions a doctor pokes her head in the room and says she WAS going to release us BUT a more urgent emergency came up. Really?! Enough is enough...I went to the nurses station; told the head nurse my daughter needed to go home and was told that she could not release her. After I told her we were going to walk out if she did not release us and I was going to report the hospital she released us A few days later I get a bill from the hospital and I call my insurance BCBS and I am told my hospital (only) ER visit is $11,000 plus dollars!!! Really?! for what?! I am livid; reporting the hospital for excessive charges, horrible, unethical, unprofessional, unorthodox treatment. This is a crime against not just my child BUT all the people that need care. I am Praying that maybe now I will get a return call from the CEO of Cartersville Medical Center...something needs to be done about these excessive charges and LACK OF medical attention. Deserves a MINUS STAR for ER care...that was not available; of course Laura Weaver

My daughter was brought to the hospital earlier today with a cough so severe she was nauseated. They checked for strep, said she was clean, told my husband it was probably just a virus and sent her home. I spoke with my mother and discovered that a family member who had been babysitting for us over the holidays was diagnosed today with pertussis, and we were told it was possible for a child to contract pertussis even with a recent vaccine, so he took her back to CMC and requested that they test her as all of her symptoms were consistent with the early stages, minus the distinctive "whooping" sound that, according to everything weve read and been told is not necessarily present in many early cases of the infection. CMC outright refused to test her. The PA apparently went back and debated it with others at the nurses station and was overheard by the physician on duty who declined to get involved, and decided that even though my daughters symptoms were consistent they just didnt want to test her because of the absence of the "whoop"...and apparently this PA wasnt sufficiently educated to realize that that particular symptom is by no means present all the time. My husband specifically requested that they test her and they again outright refused. He told them that if her symptoms persist we will take her to a hospital in Rome and request testing, and he asked for documentation which they refused to provide, citing HIPAA. I called and spoke to the supervisor on duty who fully agreed that yes, she should have been tested, particularly since she had been exposed and especially since the parent had requested testing multiple times. She said there was nothing that could be done for me and said she was only concerned about my daughter...yet no one at CMCs ER was concerned enough about my daughter to be thorough in their testing. This is an absolutely HORRIBLE hospital, and no matter how my daughters case turns out I will be filing complaints. No one at this place really cares anything about patients at all and their policy is obviously to take as little time as possible with anyone who doesnt have private insurance. The PA who refused to do a simple test to help my daughter should be fired.

We visited the emergency room on 7/21 because my husband had extreme stomach pains. We arrived at 5:30am and were taken back to a room within about 30 minutes. Two nurses came into our room and took my husbands temp and vitals. They chatted among themselves and did not talk with us much at all to give us any insight. They took my husbands blood and were supposed to send it off to be checked. They quickly left the room and did not return. My husband, as I mentioned, was in extreme pain...they never asked if he needed anything to make him more comfortable (no pain medicine or anything to help his nausea). He was sweating and throwing up etc. (I was three months pregnant at the time, helping him all by myself, wondering why I even brought him there!). I went and got him a pillow and blankets because he was uncomfortable and freezing. Finally after I hunted down a doctor and asked somebody to remove the throw up buckets (for a 2nd time) the doctor came in. He apologized for the staff that morning and told us they had not sent the blood off yet (seriously!). So, we had to wait even longer. After an hour an ultrasound was ordered and we went to find out that he had gallstones. They said he should have his gallbladder out but that we would have to wait until Monday to go to the Dr. They dismissed us with medicine and told us to make an appt for surgery. Extremely frustrated and denied emergency surgery we went home. Might I add during this time we saw several other patients coming into the ER and be seen by Drs and nurses. I later heard that they were helping the patients that did not have health insurance. FRUSTRATING! We went to the Dr on Monday and had surgery on Tuesday. Even she told us that she was AT the hospital while were were there and could have, and should have, done the surgery there. She told us, after my husbands surgery, that we should have had the emergency surgery b/c his gallbladder was in such bad shape. I would NEVER recommend ANYBODY go to the ER in Cartersville. DRIVE further for MUCH better service! Cartersville ER is crap!
