Someone I know was admitted to the psych ward due to some kind of episode she had at work. The nurses there werent useful at all. Her family and I asked constant questions about why she was acting the way she did, what happened, what was wrong with her, etc. We got no answers at all from the nurses because they couldnt tell us. Why not? I was with her dad and sister, and they wouldnt tell them either. The doctor was even worse. We never saw him. He was never there when I could make it to the hospital. She was there a week and I didnt see him at all. We left a phone number for him to call us so we could find out more information. Nothing. She said she only met with the doctor about 10 minutes a day and if he couldnt come, hed send a nurse practitioner.Thats unprofessional for what a severe problem this turned out to be. The drugs she was receiving werent explained to us. I had to Google the names to understand what they were and why they would help her. She was also really confused about why she was there and just wanted to leave, even though it was clear she should stay. The staff did a terrible job explaining things to her. Long story short, she had a manic episode at work and thought being in the hospital was "a game", reinforced by the fact that the staff had a lot of similar names of people that she already knew. Never go to this psych ward. Ive heard horror stories and thought it was people exaggerating, but theyre actually pretty accurate. I lost sleep and cried constantly because of how scared I was over her condition based on how little the hospital told us. We never got any explanation or any diagnosis. She was eventually released when meds kicked in to normalize her and she was assigned a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist didnt even tell us the diagnosis.

I was there on multiple visits in the last couple weeks for myself, and fiance, the hospital staff were very punctual, friendly, caring. I had blood drawn, had colonoscopy, and upper internal review scan/CT or something like that. Everyone stuck to schedule, was pleasant, caring. You check in, they take you to a booth #s 1-5 or 6, you meet an individual who goes over everything with you, then you get sent to the right area where they see you in a few minutes. I couldnt finish the days newspaper front page before being called in, then went to another station after that one, and was again, seen in minutes. Everyone was friendly and caring, and Im no Brad Pitt so dont think it was because of anything like that. I am sorry to see the negative comments here, and concerned for these people, but it could only have been specific people and not "The Hospital" also, could your emotions have been out-of-check a little?

Unfortunately for anyone with Chronic Illness, or for those Ive spoken and in my own experience, the quality of treatment provided via Kettering is often withheld because the Staff has become Jaded after dealing with Addicts especially Heroin Abusers that are sadly abundant in Hamilton. Far too often age and physical appearance (tattoos, piercings, etc) are all the Medical Staff see and thus will quite often be very abrasive which is frustrating for a Patient dealing with an Emergency especially when one is Sick and in Pain. Please dont misunderstand the issue because there are exceptions and there are a few Doctors and Nurses that truly approach the Job with compassion such as Hospitalist Dr. Pete Scheidler and the Staff at Wound Treatment but sadly these are in fact the Exception.

Prior to my visit today I wouldve given this place a 5. I went in for severe back pain and was treated like I was a bother. I waited in the cubicle for an hour before anyone acknowledge I was there. The ER doctor hadnt even examined me and informed me that he was going to give me muscle relaxers and send me home. No questions about what I had tried or if it worked or even if I had past issues with my back. I saw the nurse assigned to me for a total of five minutes for discharge paperwork. When I questioned why I was being sent out the door without better care she got rude with me and said they treat all back issues the same. Really so a bulging disc, pinched nerve and simple back sprain all get treated the same? Scary. Wont be using this hospital again.

The worse hospital ever. I will never go back to that hospital even if I was on my death bed. Why? Because they do not car about the patient there. Everyone is a drug addict and just a number to them. I will say we had one good nurse during the time we were there. I hope he gets a better job at another hospital. News flash a head on collision in a car accident with head and knee injury Tylenol is not gonna help with the mass amount of pain a person has. Sending someone home with a concussion only for them to be back into a hospital and ask why did we go home in the first place only angers me more. Another thing you need to train your nurses to have better bedside manner and also to read the patient charts before coming in the room.

I was not contacted, they said they called the house, which was after I left to meet dad at the hospital for a was told 9:45 ct scan and when I got here at 9:30 he was not here at all, he was sent back. I was then told he was supposed to have blood work before and then c.f. scan. Nothing was said previously by anyone and nursing ho.e did not know what going on either. She did not call my house, I gave them my number and told them not to call my sister last week when registered for that ct scan , but of course that was not in the computer. The staff was nice last week. But because I was amgry in voice only and said I was passed they called the security guard ! What a joke. I hope the doctor raises Cain also after I do !!

From my visits to and treatments in the Emergency Department the Radiology Department and the Surgical Department, everyone was genuinely kind, caring, compassionate and professional. The staff is beyond exceptional. I agree that some areas of the physical structure appear older but remember it’s an 85 year old Hospital. It’s constantly being updated to exceed national standards. My comment to the naysayers would be to go visit an 85 year old hospital in the downtown of any metropolitan area. It’ll make you truly appreciate what we have right here in Hamilton. In my opinion, society in general needs to lose the fast food drive through mentality. Quality care and service isn’t delivered like that; mistakes are.

Although this hospital has remodeled and "re-staffed". It is very dirty. Hair and Filth on the garbage cans. Very run down hospital where run down people go to get "run down" care. I went in, my daughters(3) chest was caving in, they gave her a red tag and asked us to go to the waiting room. I sat there for a little while and couldnt bear to be around the other people in the waiting room. So I went to Mercy fairfield, where they were very brisk and serious about the situation and exported us to Childrens in Cincinnati right away. Turns out that the situation of my daughter only having 85% oxygen wasnt a big enough rush for FOrt HAmilton. I dont care what anyone hears anywhere. I wouldnt take my dog there.
