Dr McCalla was fine. The office staffs carelessness and/or incompetence, however, makes me think that I will not visit the IU Health Souther Indiana Physicians Urgent Care office again. On Friday 3/10 I visited the office and saw Dr McCalla for severe throat pain/swelling. He prescribed me generic Celebrex (and a few other things) to help, because naproxen and ibuprofen were not really helping at all. I got to CVS and found out that that needed authorization from my insurance, I needed something immediately due to the severity. I called the Urgent Care and they told me that they would ask him to prescribe something else, and that somebody would call me to let me know what was happening. I never received a call, though. I had to deal with excruciating pain that night. On Saturday, I called back to explain the situation, and was once again told that they would contact a provider to prescribe something, and that theyd call back in one or two hours to keep me informed. This call never came! After 4.5 hours of waiting (in a lot of pain), I called back, asking again for an update, making it clear that I was frustrated with the poor communication thus far. Somebody (not Dr McCalla) prescribed me Tramadol for the pain, which was kind of upsetting, because I made it very clear that swelling was also a big problem. We went to the Urgent Care to grab the prescription, and I asked the nurse about whether I should do anything else for the swelling. She said to just try the Tramadol. At CVS, the pharmacist told me that there was a prescription sent in on Friday, right after I called the first time, for Diclofenac, which would help with the pain and swelling. Needless to say, I am very upset that nobody called me back on Friday to let me know about the diclofenac, and that nobody on Saturday morning noticed that Dr McCalla had sent that prescription over, and that I was subject to a 4.5 hour wait when I was told 1-2 hours (and who knows, I could have waited even longer if I didnt call myself). Anyway, I got the diclofenac (didnt even fill the Tramadol), and started feeling better soon after taking the medicine. To reiterate, this should not reflect poorly on Dr McCalla, he sent the prescription over very quickly after my initial complaint. The office staff, however, leaves a LOT to be desired in terms of customer service and ability to see the actions taken by the provider so this information can be properly and promptly communicated when it matters.

Bordering on medical malpractice is the kindest way to describe this visit. My girlfriend recently had oral surgery and the wound from the surgery has been causing some substantial pain, which culminated in seeking medical care on a Saturday, when the primary care/oral surgeons office was closed. Seeking a low-dosage pain reliever (Tramadol) - the exact same prescription which the oral surgeon had prescribed for just a few days - was the focus of the visit. Dr. McCalla prescribed an antibiotic (for an infection that did not exist) and anti-inflammatory drug (to which she is allergic) without even bothering to perform a cursory examination of the surgical wound. She advised him of this situation and he just simply refused to listen...three times he was told, and yet he failed to even consider her opinion based on her previous treatment. It seems that the simplest path to follow would have been to prescribe what the oral surgeon had prescribed, a very low-level pain reliever. Instead, he nastily stated, "Well, I cant very well give you Vicodin, now, can I?" Vicodin was never requested and is not of the type of pain reliever required or requested; she questioned his response, something that way too many of us do not do when confronted with this situation in the face of a licensed professional. However, the end result is a better one - she refused improper treatment, preventing potential physical harm and possible further treatment due to maltreatment/malpractice, and is now much more aware of the fallacies of Dr. McCalla and those like him who disregard the best interests of their patients. I recommend that Dr. McCalla be considered for examination by the local medical review board for his practices.

Life is What you make it, & how you perceive it ! I cut the top of my hand (kind of Serious) I waited maybe 1/2 hour, Not Bad, . They were extremely nice . Very Professional . They ALL were friendly & knowledgeable . They were very thorough in each of their prospective jobs . Dr. Monroe did a very good job putting my hand back together fixing things inside as well as doing a beautiful stitching job on the outside . They all deserve a PAT on the Back . The facility was very clean OH! Did I mention, 3 other medical places turned me away? I have no insurance and am a self pay type guy, they only charged me a little over $ 500.00 dollars which I felt was VERY REASONABLE ! Looking back I’m glad the others turn me away because it turned out as a wonderful experience! I usually sew myself up to save the money, but in this case “I am a Happy Camper” Sincerely Thankful Tom Vedder

I came in for what I thought was maybe a strep, bronchitis, or pneumonia: 120$ pay up front for a regular office visit to start. The doctor (White Male, no name on the paperwork I was sent with)spent maybe a minute in the room with me, hardly said anything, told me I had a sinus infection and promptly sent me away with RX for antibiotic. NOT WORTH 120. After finishing the antibiotic he prescribed (7 days later), all of my symptoms have come back! It was blatantly obvious, seeping out really, that this "doctor"cared little about me or my well being. In the other staff members I saw much the same. Are we as the patients an "inconvenience" for these people? Thats what it felt like from the "customer/patient" perspective. Save yourself-the money- the time- and the likely reinfection.- Just dont go. Research natural remedies and natural infection fighters.

I went in with my allergies acting up, telling them that I usually get a sinus infection every year. Since I had already had one this year, I was afraid it was something else. Dr McCalla hardly looked me over, didnt do any kind of testing, and labeled it sinitus (another sinus infection). He spent maybe a minute in the room with me, hardly said anything, and there was only one other patient in the clinic, they clearly werent busy. After finishing the antibiotic he prescribed, all of my symptoms have come back! Plainly, I just did not feel that he cared about me or my well being. The staff was really friendly and kind but I will not return.

Not complaining about the wait...it was busy, but the receptionist greeted me with "I hate this place." I guess she was having computer problems. The nurse continued with that type of sentiment. It was 8:00pm when they started to call me back, which was closing time. The nurse made comments about how she was supposed to leave at 8:00 and she was NOT happy about having to stay. Never ended up being seen and they couldnt give me my copay back. Not allowed. That was a week ago. Was told today I could wait up to 4 weeks to get my money back!!! REALLY IU? MedExpress was SOOOO much better, always is. Never going back again.
