Buckeystown Veterinary Hospital is a medical facility located in Buckeystown, Maryland, specializing in animal care. With a rating of 4.5, the hospital offers a range of services for various animals, including pets and livestock.
The hospital is known for its diverse range of services and a seemingly friendly and knowledgeable staff. They offer emergency farm visits, well puppy checks, and more. The veterinarians are all women, which has been positively noted by some clients.
From a journalistic perspective, the reviews indicate a complex picture. While some clients swear by the hospital's services and have been loyal customers for years, others express dissatisfaction with the cost and customer service. Some clients appreciate the hospital's emergency services and knowledgeable staff, while others criticize the focus on profits and inconsistent services.
Based on my expertise in the medical field, it's crucial for potential clients to consider both the positive and negative reviews to make an informed decision. The hospital's long-standing community recognition and specialized services are points to consider.

I recently moved to the Frederick area and did stop ins at various vets to find one that seemed suitable for my dogs. I found two Jefferson Vet and Buckeystown. I chose Buckeystown as it offered a larger, seemingly friendly staff, easier access and knowledgeable Vets. Ive been dissatisfied from the start. From leaving me hanging while trying to find my dogs records to inconsistancy in regards to active scripts written by the hometown vet. They insist a dog seen by its regular vet less than 4 months ago is REQUIRED to be examined by the new vet at nearly twice the cost of other vets in the area. And they hide behind a "its required by law" statement. Ive looked and havent found the law yet that requires it. Then there is the statement that to do that it "will cost you" x amount of money to do ANYTHING. (Record transfers to another vet cost you even if the records are already printed.) Ive worked in the vet field for the last 10 years and in the animal fields for more than 20 years. This is one of the most costly and disorganized practices Ive ever come across. Stay away. Im going to Jefferson with its friendlier vets and more modern equipment (digital x-ray is available!).

I chose Buckeystown on a whim in 1993 after adopting my first dogs from the shelter on Rosemont Ave. At the time, Dr. Miller had a small office (now the rehabilitation area) with one room in which to see pets. Back then the service and compassion were top notch. I have since moved from Frederick to Mount Airy, and while my first two dogs passed on a few years ago, I STILL choose to take four young Border Collies from Mount Airy to see the docs at Buckeystown. After 20 years of going to this vet practice, I can say that I am happy that they have so much care to offer to my pets! Drs. Hain and Lowenstein are wonderful! My husband and I agree, its worth the drive and the money if you know your pets are in good hands! Thank you Buckeystown Vet Hospital!! ~ Cindy and Tony Derrenberger

We started our little dream farmette complete with six lambs, too many chickens to count and two LGD dogs about two years ago. Its been a tough learning curve for us, but Buckeystown Vet has been there for us every step of the way. From Sunday morning emergency farm visits for a down lamb to well puppy checks, they have been there to educate us, treat our livestock aliments and keep up with the progress of each sick animal. My hat is off to this group of phenomenal female vets! Yes, you read that right, the vets are all women and I, for one, couldnt be more pleased. They truly care about the animals and their families in their care and always go the extra mile to make sure your animals get the best possible care. I always recommend Buckeystown Vet to friends.

I have been bringing my cats here for over 20 years. I have brought in strays, ferals , my mushy housepets...and every animal has always received the BEST care. They have saved the lives of several of my babies. They will research anything and try any treatment needed. For example, my cat Joseph was being hospitalized in intensive care at another hospital. I was uncomfortable with the vets diagnosis there. The vets at Buckeystown called Cornell Univ for advice on his condition, and then called the other vet to intervene on Josephs behalf. So instead of putting Joseph down, he "miraculously" recovered and was released to me in two days after following their recommendations. I will never go anywhere else with my cats.

This vet was recommended to us but when we went there we had nothing but poor service and boderline imcompetent care. Our dogs were already adults and we simply went for a lyme disease shot and the staff completely failed to review the records we provided and prepared a full vaccination series. They probably wasted $150 in medicine simply on the inability to read a pet medical record, thank God we were not there for anything serious. Even after giving them a few more tries the staff never became courtious and never impressed us with their competence or work ethic. This might be a good place to take your farm animal but I would not go here for the personal attention that at least I demand for a beloved family pet.

Im surprised that this vet has gotten such a low Google review rating when its been voted the best vet in Frederick for years and Ive had nothing but good experiences with our two cats. They never force me to have something done or pay for something if I dont want to or I think its unnecessary or too pricey. They offer options for care and encourage good at-home remedies. They treat and answer my obsessive pet mom questions with respect. Yes, the cost of just an examination is $60 so the cost for a visit is a bit high but I feel its money well spent for good care, good service, and the overall health of our beloved pets - they are a priceless addition to our lives. Great, great vet!

I have taken my two Himalayans there and gotten stellar service. Today, a large friendly dog followed my husband home while he was walking our dog. The nice dog let me check his collar after a bowl of water. His tags were very scratched, but I could read his name, his rabies tag number and "Buckeystown Vets". I called the vets office, they looked up his rabies tag number which matched his name! I gave them my number and address. His family just picked him up! Kudos to the lovely lady with whom I spoke at Buckeystown Vets! <3

From a staff friendliness perspective, technicians and vets, they are top notch. reception just average, maybe above. While I am not a customer of record, they are the vet for the foster dogs in a program I volunteer so I am often in and out, picking up a dog, or seeing a vet, who ever is available, and only had good experiences. From a recommendation standpoint, they are voted BEST VET by our local magazine. With that said, they are not my vet so second in my book! Good look with what ever you and your furbaby need!

Been going here for about 4 years, and had moderately good service, but recently the customer service has gone dramtically downhill. What once felt like a small town vet clinic has now grown to feel more like a corporate business where profits rule the roost. The staff has become abrupt, rude, and not willing to help unless you have out your check book. Im chamging vets and I am no longer giving my friends and family bad advice by sending them to this vet practice.

We found Buckeystown Vet a few years ago and its the best one weve ever found. Its also much cheaper than any other vet weve ever been too. Weve brought our goats here quite a few times (and some house calls) for a number of issues and the vets are always friendly and knowledgeable. We have also brought our cats here and had similar good experiences. Well never use another vet!
