On our initial visit we liked the overall atmosphere of the office...fun and entertaining. My two daughters were excited to come back. My preteen daughter had to go back to get a cavity done. They originally told me parents were not allowed back with the children while they were getting procedures done. I went back with my daughter anyway and was glad I did. The dentist did not give her enough pain killer and it hurt when they put the equipment in her mouth- the equipment itself, not even the process, cut open her gums and she was bleeding. She told the dentist that her mouth wasnt numb yet and it hurt. The dentist told her it couldnt hurt and she was probably nervous. When my daughter was crying because it hurt so bad, the dentist gave her more novacaine. When they were waiting for the second shot to kick in, they told my daughter that if she didnt stop crying then they would make me leave. She said that she didnt want to get it done if it was going to hurt that bad still as the dentist had drilled to the nerve even when my daughter had said that the first shot had not kicked in. Dr. Pareja told my duaghter (with me there) that if she did not get the cavity fixed she would die- who says that to a child??? After the second shot kicked and they started again, they lied to my daughter and told her that they wouldnt use the drill anymore- just the water and air...they still used the drill- which I get that they had to use the drill, but dont lie to my child- like she cant hear it and feel them digging around?!? She is old enough that she was upset that they lied to her- trust is very big at her age. She got her tooth fixed, but I will never go back to THAT dentist. Also with billing, if you have insurance, the insurance puts a cap on what they can bill you as the client- the allowed rate...when they do a filling, if your insurance doesnt cover the white fillings, then not only do you get the extra charge but there is no cap on the amount that they can charge you to which they inflate the price difference between the silver and white fillings.

This place is very shady and billing is horrible. They seem nice and clean when you come in, a nice waiting room with ipads for kids. Then you get called back, its a kids dentist but semi private. They ask you weird questions like do you want cheap service or your child comfortable through the visit.... why cant I have reasonable but comfortable? They were nice helping kids brush teeth and so forth. My son had a cavity, and it was HELL. They wanted to do it in the open he flipped out so no work was done, still I was billed for the entire service. Speaking of billing. I took my kids here twice for cleanings, basic service. The last time I was told I had a balance on my account but they had no idea what for it was being investigated, not to worry about it. Then I started receiving demand bills but the service listed was "previous balance." took almost a week to get the one billing person on the phone. She says she has no idea let her look into it. After a week of me calling again and getting more of these bills, I finally get told its from last year, they forgot to bill me services and they gave me the incorrect pricing in the office for other services so now I had to pay the difference. Since it was over 15 months I could not use my FLEX and insurance was not going to pay it. Took forever to get this in writing from the dentist. So if you are comfortable being billed years later for services that you can not verify, or having to choose between price or comfort for your child I say go here. Otherwise stay far away. I would not recommend this practice at all.

I wanted to write a quick review to counter some of the things said in the negative reviews. I literally just got back from a visit where my son had his first cavity filled. Hes a pretty normal kid, but hes got some sensory issues, so I didnt know how it was going to go. They gave me the choice to be in the room with him or sit in the waiting area. I took the waiting area. Well, when he got the numbing shots, he became very distressed, knocking tools away, taking his gas mask off, screaming, etc. However, she was very patient with him the whole time and tried to make him as comfortable as possible. They came and got me when he seemed inconsolable. Even with me there, he continued to have problems. She asked my permission to keep on going, giving me the choice to stop the procedure if I thought it was too much for him. Somehow, she was able to calm him down and finish the procedure. The point here is that she handled what could have been a very bad situation calmly and professionally. My son even admitted afterwards that it wasnt as bad as he thought it was going to be, and that he thought he would be more brave next time.

I surprise people gave this doctor 5 stars. My experience with this Doctor was too much of a business not about the kids. I took my 3 years old there for 6 months routine and Dr. Pareja said my daughter has 4 cavities. I brush my child twice a day and before bed time, how could she gets that many cavities. Well, my assumption might be wrong. But the doctor found my child has cavities almost every single times she visit the doctor for her routine check up. So, the doctor suggest my daughter take the X-ray, filling, and sealant. Well, as a worry parent like me I let Dr. Pareja did the X-ray, filling, and even the sealant. It was too much for a little three years old and she had a big cut on her inner cheek. The cut developed ulcer and it last for 10 days. Such horrible experience and painful on my child. Then, when the follow up time, the office email and ask me to confirm the appointment. I didnt confirm the appointment. A few days later, I got a letter in the mail stated my daughter missed the appointment and they charged me $50 for missed the appointment. Really ?

All the special touches made my daughters first time experience extra special. I was referred by a good friend to see Dr. Tan. The office is conveniently located with ample parking. My daughters name were written on a blackboard outside the door. My 3 yr old daughter saw her name and felt special. I definitely felt that the staff and Dr. Tan really cared for helping children. Dr. Tan was thorough, informative, and patience. My oldest daughter had a minor cavity and he did not push me to have it fill. He recommended that we just continue to brush that area better. This is important because some places will push you to fix minor cavities just to make some money. Dr. Tan made the extra efforts to walk and play with my daughters. Trust is important when you are dealing with children who can not communicate clearly their needs yet, so I was truly appreciative that he took the extra time to build this trust.
