I am the type of person that has extreme anxiety about the dreaded dentist. To the point where I feel nauseous the day of my appointment and typically back out. I pass Lake Shore Family Dental often as I live in the area and started to research them. The reviews are great so I figured Id give it a shot and Im SO GLAD I did! From the moment I walked into the office, I felt like part of the family. Kristy (sorry if Im spelling it wrong) got up from her desk to greet me and knew who I was immediately. I work in Management and I struggle to get the staff to consistently give that level of service so it means a lot to me. She went over each and every step of the process before I even got called back. I even received a new patient gift and card...GREAT TOUCH! Kristy also went through my dental insurance benefits to tell me what was covered for the visit that day. I do my research so I knew, but for someone who is budget conscious that is a amazing. I wasnt there long when the hygienist Amanda came out to meet me. She already knew I was nervous about being there and she assured me that she would take good care of me. And she DEF did! She toured me around the office where I met the entire staff (also a nice touch). We sat down to talk for a bit prior to the exam. She said that she wanted to get to know me before we got started. This isnt something that a dental office (or any doctors office) has EVER done for me and Ive been to many drs. We laughed and joked around a bit so it made me feel comfortable which was the point of this exercise. My anxiety was completely gone at this time. Then it came time for the actual exam. Amanda, Jennifer and Emily were not only gentle, they were comforting and accommodating. Always pausing to be sure I was ok and I have to tell you I didnt feel a thing! Dentist exams have so incredibly painful for me in the past. This was amazing. They went through every step of the process with me BEFORE they did it. I value that as Ive had bad experiences in the past where the dentist or hygienist would act and then explain after the pain. They also stopped to go over the services rendered that day to make sure it was comfortable for my budget. Love that! Dr. Hong was equally amazing. Listening to my concerns and making recommendations for a treatment plan geared to me. Can you believe it? Not just a dentist/owner wanting to get more money out of me...whoa! After all was said and done, I couldnt have been more pleased with my experience and I actually (dare I say it) CANT WAIT to go back in a month for my next cleaning. I called 3 people on the way home to refer them immediately! Thanks for being so great LSFD!!! I sincerely mean it!

Dr. Hong is an excellent dentist. To be fair, there are lots of excellent dentists in Anne Arundel County. We switched to Dr. Hong in 2006 when our previous dentist (a well-known dentist with two large offices in AA County) stopped participating with our insurance. At the time, we were not unhappy with our previous dentist and we almost certainly would have stayed with him had he not dropped our insurance. With the previous dentist, we typically waited 45 to 60 minutes past our scheduled appointment times before we were seen by the dental hygienist. I would bring some work to do and block out an entire afternoon for what should have been a 45 minute cleaning. From the beginning it was clear that Dr. Hongs office was going to be different. In three years of visits for myself and my family, none of us ever waited more than ten minutes past our appointment time. The one time my wife had to wait ten minutes, Dr. Hong personally apologized for not being on time. In all but a few instances, appointments at Dr. Hongs office start and end on time. Respect for my time was just one manifestation of the professionalism and courtesy routinely displayed by Dr. Hong and his staff. Because I had two forms of insurance, figuring out who was going to pay for what was a nontrivial and time consuming task. Katie (the office manager) made an honest attempt at figuring out what my out-of-pocket expenses would be based on her understanding of what my insurance companies would cover. After my family moved to Europe in July 2009, Katie went out of her way to contact me overseas to let me know that I had overpaid on a previous visit because one of my insurance companies had paid more than her initial estimate. She refunded the overpayment to my credit card the next day. Dr. Hong uses state of the art technology (digital x-rays) and my 3 year-old son did not fear his visits to the "tooth doctor". Lake Shore Family Dental gets my familys highest recommendations.

The hygienist broke the end of a cleaning tool off in my mouth. Luckily the sharp point landed on my tongue instead going down my throat. OK, a simple mistake for a new hygienist. Ill let is slide. Then I had some work done and had to come back to have an adjustment made so I could close my mouth properly. Strike two. Strike three: My daughter had her teeth cleaned and the hygienist mentioned casually that my daughters permanent retainer was broken. As we were leaving my daughter swore they broke it there and now she was in pain because the wire was stabbing her tongue. We made an emergency orthodontist appointment and had the device repaired. When I called the Lake Shore Family Dental office to complain that they had broken her retainer and I was not very happy at all that I was spending my afternoon at the orthodontist and having to pay for their mistake. Dr. Blaiss attitude was "Prove it." That made me angry and I suggested we should not be their patient anymore. Dr. Hong agreed that was for the best. Even if it were previously broken, to leave the sharp wire sticking out in my daughters mouth, denying any culpability, and their attitude of obfuscation rather than assistance is why I didnt choose to use their service any more. There was never any suggestion that they could work with me or have me bring my daughter back in to their office to examine the problem. They even went so far as to call our orthodontist to talk to him while he was working on my daughter. The orthodontistss attitude about whether the dentist office might be responsible changed after that call. BTW, my daughter didnt bring up the pain while we were in the dentist office because she was afraid to make waves. Not something I have a problem with. Dr. Hong is a decent nice guy. Ill miss him. Just not his young incompetent hygienists.

Cant stop smiling now, thanks to Dr. Hong and Staff!!!! In August 2011: Yesterday was the first appointment for work to be done. Dr. Hong and his staff were awesome!!! They did my whole "smile zone" area with sedation, and I have a big smile!!! My teeth look so good now!! It is incredible after all these years to be able to smile and not have someone say "I think you have some food stuck in your teeth"!!!!! I am still a little foggy today, but my knees are not weak anymore, so I can get around and clean a little bit of the yard up after the Hurricane we had (my name sake hurricane!!!). Need to go back tomorrow for a follow up then back next month to have caps put on. All in all I have to say this was the best dental experience I have EVER had!! Never thought I would ever say something like that, since I am the worlds biggest chicken when it come to going to the dentist!!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. HONGS OFFICE TO EVERYONE!!!!!!
Thanks again Lake Shore Family Dental!!!!! September 2011- after all the dental work was done: Well Dr. Hong, you and your staff did it!!!! My daughters wedding was on Saturday and the pictures came out incredible!!! My teeth looked perfect in every single one of them! And thank you so much for doing this so quickly for me....I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!!! My confidence level was off the charts when they were snapping the pictures from every angle imaginable!!! I will gladly, whole heartedly recommend your office to everyone!!
