Went with my friend to euthanize her old family dog and the staff was terribly lacking in compassion and empathy towards the hard situation. My friend was devastated being her first pet loss and the dr snapped at her. They had to stick the needle in all four legs and the dog was squirming and crying. Being a euthanasia, youd think the staff would be able to handle these situations a little bit better. When I worked as an emergency vet tech, we had a protocol to sedate the patient heavily and place an iv catheter to avoid having to stick the pet more than once. Also, training for all to be sure placement is successful on the first time. Hospitals like this are why I no longer work in the field... saddens me that compassion fatigue is such a real thing that people work through... get more massage. Smile. Love your life.
