I have an absolute horror story about this place! NEVER take any hooved animals there! I had an unbelievably TERRIBLE experience at West End Animal hospital when I brought my pot-bellied pig there. The vet claimed that they knew pig anatomy (my piggys hooves on his back foot are growing in a "club" foot pattern and causing him pain). They took my baby Boris into a back room and 6 people held him down while they took a BELT SANDER to his hoof.... they then fed him BACON DOG TREATS to try to calm him down!!!!!!! (I am a life-long vegetarian so this is absolutely deplorable, let alone the fact that they were feeding the flesh of a pig TO A PIG). I found out about the treats because when they brought him back to me, he had orange powder smeared all over his face so I inquired and was told that it was cheese-bacon flavored dog treats they gave him. Another thing, his ear was ripped and bleeding from one of the employees watch scratching his skin while they held him down. On top of all this, when I took him to another vet after this incident (Dawn Miller, DVM) she showed me where they BROKE Boriss ankle on that foot by holding him down so forcefully. I couldnt believe it! (Boris later had to have a pin surgically implanted into his ankle to heal the joint). I ran into the male vet who was involved (pretty sure it was Fred Schirmer) at Satchels pizza and when I mentioned to him that the next vet who saw my pig testified that West End literally BROKE my pigs ankle when they saw him, Schirmer literrally SMILED and walked away without saying anything. I was totally SHOCKED at his callous disregard at this information!!! I will never go there again!!!! Total nightmare!!!!!!

I have 5 animals - 3 dogs and 2 exotics, and have been taking them to West End for 4 years. I drive almost a half an hour to get to West End, and in the process I pass at least 5 other veterinary clinics. The doctors there are always kind, compassionate, and extremely informative. They always take the time to answer all my questions and make sure they give me all of my medical options to let me make an informed decision. They are great at recommending over the counter medications that are safe for animals as a first and money-saving option. Their prices are incredible - I am always pleased when its time to check out because it always surprises me how affordable their care is. The reception staff and vet techs are always friendly and kind, to me and my babies. I am always able to get an appointment when it fits my schedule, and they have walk-in appointments for medical emergencies during business hours. In the past four years, I have never had a bad experience with West End. I recommend them to everyone, not only for exotics but for your dogs and cats as well.

I have been taking my Golden Retriever to West End for almost 4 years and have always been greeted professionally by the staff at the front desk and they go out of their way to help me. Recently I had to bring Cooper in because of a tumor on his foot. They were able to get me right in on the day I discovered the tumor and set up a appointment the next day for the surgery. Dr. Schirmer explained everything to me beforehand and answered my questions. We had a good discussion and even though they were busy that day he did not seem hurried and gave me the time I needed. And when I picked up Cooper the next day he had removed the one on the foot and one on the back leg. We had discussed the removal of both of the tumors beforehand. They have healed perfectly. Dr. Schirmer even called after the surgery to let me know exactly what he had done and how Cooper was doing and encouraged me to call if I had any problems or questions. I highly recommend West End to anyone looking for top notch veterinary care.

I have been going to West End Animal Hospital for over a decade. My three babies are Kody, Kassi, and Karli. I could never say enough or thank these guys enough. Dr. Cottrell has been amazing! She will always be credited in my book to saving Kodys life when he was just five years old. He has had chronic lung problems and we have been able to manage it with medications. This past year we have been able to also work with their newest vet, Dr. Stevens. She is awesome! We have been given extra time with Kody due to her research and expertise. Kassi and Karli have been treated wonderfully as well. They have just not had as many health problems as Kody. Karli is paralyzed in her back end and has seizures. The staff and doctors understand her problems and take good care of her when she needs to be seen. I always recommend West End to anyone I come across. My babies are one of the most important things in my life and I would never take them anywhere else but here. We are ALWAYS treated well at West End.

I can not say enough amazing things about West End Animal Hospital. Prior to West End, I had been using a different veterinarian in town for the needs of my two dogs. I am a huge animal lover and have spent a considerable amount of money on various ailments, itches, wounds, and swallowed garments throughout the last six years. I started to feel discontent with the vet I had been using. Several office visits left me feeling like the amount spent during my visit was more important than the care of my pets. I was referred to West End by a co-worker and have been absolutely thrilled with their level of professionalism, service, guidance, and over-all passion for veterinary care. Each time I bring my pet there, care options are discussed and low-cost alternatives are provided when available. I can not possibly express my gratitude to the doctors and staff at West End. I could not imagine taking my pets anywhere else.

Weve brought our dogs there for years and they have always received the best care. The PitNip program and their care for bats make WEHA a one-of-a-kind operation. I was recently very concerned about the fact that they were apparently offering acupuncture and herbal remedies for animals, as noted on their marquis. I felt it unscientific for treatments that have no proven effects in humans to be extended to animals. I left a review in this forum to that effect. The owner, Dr. Cottrell, got in touch with me and this is not a central part of their treatment plan and was confined to specific cases. That made me feel much better. I mention it here because others may have also received the same wrong impression from that sign. This place has so many unique facets that show their interest in animal advocacy. It really ensures that you will find great care for your pets.

I have been taking my pets to West End Animal Hospital for over 29 years--Dr. K (as she was called way back then), had just opened her practice when I took my 8 week old dachshund, Mandy, to her. We had many ups and downs with Mandy, especially back problems, Dr. K (now Dr. C) was wonderful and helped Mandy live to a wonderful 16 years of age. We have moved many times over the years, I drive quite a distance to use West End and would never ever take my pets anywhere else! I feel my pets are in the best care and am very confident in the treatment my animals always receive. The staff and doctors are amazing, compassionate, and really take their time. When I call, I can always get in the same day no matter what--even if they have to stay late--they will make arrangements...that says a lot about their practice!
