The building and staff are nice enough but they try to sell you tons of stuff you dont need. We have a now 4yo dog that we keep up to date on all of her shots, she stays indoors and is completely healthy. We went to PAWS when we moved to Hugo. She was just due for a yearly update on shots, they tried to sell me a dental cleaning for $450, they took a stool sample right in the room using a glove and then say "well since we already have her sample, will you submit it to the test?" Like okay, you already violated my dog for it so might as well charge me for that too. Then they asked me when she last had a heart worm test (shes on preventative) and a slew of other blood tests. I said "she is up to date and perfectly healthy, her last Vets office made sure of it" just to get them off my back to quit selling me things. My dog gets what she needs and thats it. Well they left us in the room and went and googled our last clinic name and number, called them and got all her previous records behind our back, and then came back into our room and say "We just called and looks like youre past due by a few months on all these tests according to your last clinic, you should probably do them today to keep your dog healthy." Like excuse me? Are you trying to call me out on the spot and guilt me into buying all these unnecessary tests and shots for my indoor dog who is only 3 years old and has no issues at all? I was upset and felt cornered and like they tried to guilt me into thinking I am a bad pet owner because I only buy whats required and dont pay for Giardia tests or blood work when not needed. That was the one and only time I took my dog there. Then just recently I called them to find out how much heart worm preventative costs. I was quoted $90 for a 6mo supply, that there was no generic legally available, and that they couldnt dispense it without a heart worm test because it was prescription only. Well guess what, I called another vet in Hugo and they quoted me $38 for the SAME PILLS and no heart worm test required, can pick it up at any time. Definitely avoid PAWS. Yes the staff is nice and the building is new and updated, convenient hours, but hate being taken advantage of/lied to/told something is required when its not/guilt tripped into buying stuff my dog doesnt need.

Several years ago I was unhappy with my dogs veterinary clinic (Southview Animal Hospital) and was on the hunt for a new one. Someone I knew worked at PAWS pet hospital as a vet tech so I figured Id give them a shot -- even though it was a half-hour drive one way (I live in St. Paul). The first time I brought my German shepherd into PAWS, I knew I would remain a client. The friendly vet techs greet you from behind the counter, the vets are extremely friendly and knowledgeable (obviously), and my dog gets the best of care -- every person who handles her is gentle, quiet, calm...theyve got great energy here! I love how Dr. Beck will just get right down on the floor with my girl to pet her and talk to her. Theres no "grab em, examine em, get out" mentality here! I also love how the vet techs -- and oftentimes, the vets themselves -- call to follow up after any medications are given or procedures are done. I mean, my HUMAN doctor doesnt do this! The customer service at this veterinary clinic is top-knotch. Now, of course you get what you pay for -- their services arent cheap here...but nor are they priced over the top; since I moved to the Twin Cities Ive been paying just about those prices anywhere Ive taken my dog. Ive read the other reviews and I see some people dont like being "upsold" on services that "arent needed." My dog has had surgery at PAWS and I can assure you, the fact I have to pay some money for the required blood work and pre-surgery testing is WORTH IT. If youre willing to take your animal to a vet whod start in on a surgical procedure without knowing everything they possibly can about the animals current health (you know, like they do when you go to a doctor yourself), then this vet isnt for you. Whats also great about this vet clinic is they have emergency vet hours -- if something happens on "off hours" you dont have to take your animal to a strange veterinarian. Thats a big plus; in an emergency situation every second counts. I could go on and on about the service and staff at PAWS. Suffice it to say Im a very happy customer.

I have been to PAWS on a few different occasions, this last time was the final straw. They are over priced and sell you things that you do not need. I took my beloved doggie there after she got bit and needed about 10 stitches, it was early evening and there was no bleeding involved thankfully! PAWS checked her blood for kidney problems and other things and our bill was over $400 for minimal work. The wound was along her back leg so every time she moved her leg to walk it would cause her pain. The Vet had just done the suturing and told us how we had to be extremely careful that she doesnt walk more than to go to the bathroom, no stretching it, and no jumping. Immediately after the directions, the vet technician picked my dog up by the front legs fully extending the wound on the back leg and causing it to bleed. The area that they had just worked on for over $400! The sutures were terrible looking and there was now flesh hanging out, the vet told us that it was okay, because she had to actually cut some of the flesh off to suture it. They sent her home with a $40 collar to keep her from licking her wound which was on her back thigh and when we got her home, she bent her neck and licked her wound with the too small collar on. Terrible experience! Also, they make sure to call to remind you to bring your pet in for shots and other things to charge for but unfortunately we didnt even receive a call to see how she was recovering. Probably because they knew we were unhappy about the technician making her bleed right away following surgery. Also, this is posting as a different person. I am Michelle Brown and have the issue.

I am sorry to say but DO NOT bring your dog to this place! Our first experience with them was fine and they seemed very nice, but if anything major actually happens to your dog on their watch, they turn into completely different people. I had one of the doctors actually yell, scream at me over the phone because I did not feel my dog got the attention she needed after a crisis surgery THEY caused. My dog went in for a tooth extraction and cleaning, and they discharged her only to find 6 hours later that they left a breathing tube stuck in her throat!!! She had to be rushed to the ER for yet another surgery to remove the obstruction. They wouldnt own up to the mistake, said it was our dogs fault, and laughed it off saying it wasnt a big deal. They didnt even offer to refund us any part of the surgery from their mistakes... Just a terrible experience overall. What was a routine surgery turned into a life threatening emergency and they did not even apologize for their malpractice. Our dog coughed and hacked for weeks following the surgery and the doctor who did the surgery could care less. All that to say, if anything goes wrong in your experience with them aka extra charges, wrongful diagnosis, malpractice, etc. just know you will have to pay for everything anyway! They do not care about you as a customer and definitely do not care about your dog. They are only in it for the money.
