Our dog was extremely ill after having a seizure that caused her to be extremely lethargic; she had temporary neurological issues that made her walk irregularly, randomly, and fall down frequently; she was vomiting blood and was not at all her normal self. We think she may have gotten into something poisonous on the farm where she resides. We made an appointment because the clinic is very close to our home and we have been in before for less urgent situations, and they said they could see her at 5 pm. We took her in to the Altoona Vet Hospital and the nurse at the front desk was extremely kind and compassionate towards our dog, clearly wanting the best outcome for her. We were sent into an exam room to wait for the doctor and when he came in (Dr. Williams, I think?) he was condescending and shamed us for bringing her in because of her dire condition. He went through all of her symptoms - which I was already completely and wholly aware of - and scolded us for even bringing her in when she should have gone to an emergency vet hospital. He stated that it was 5:15 pm and that they didnt have the ability or the time to care for her, making my pup seem like a nuisance. I was already distressed about her condition and think he could have handled the situation in a much more tactful and brief manner so we would have gotten Hazel to emergency care more quickly. They referred us to Iowa Veterinary Specialties and called them to let them know we would be coming in so they would be prepared to immediately care for Hazel. IVS has done a phenomenal job and they are all kind and caring, and Hazel is completely back to normal! I do not doubt AVH gives wonderful care, but the treatment we received was unnecessary and devoid of any empathy whatsoever. From now on I will be taking my pets elsewhere. I called asking for advice on my cat, who had just gotten off of antibiotics from my vet, offered to have my vet (whos 45mins away) fax over his records and was told they were too full to see him and unable to fill a script for an animal they havent seen, my vet when I called him back offered to call you guys but again you wouldnt even help my cat out. Thats rude that we know what he needs and yet you wont help a poor cat out. Even a human Drs office would help a human out if they had orders from another office. Guess, I wont be bringing my cat here when we fully move down here, and my boyfriend will seek other veterinary care with his animals. In my opinion you dont care about animals like you should.

I have had 4 dogs over the past several years, and have always taken them here, nothing but kind Vets, and Techs, wonderful people, I dont care if they are over-priced or not, I would rather spend the money on someone who actually cares about my dog, a few weeks ago my 8 week old puppy ate a paper clip, they took care of him, and they even called back to make sure he was ok.......I recommend this place to all my friends when they ask about a Vet, Thank You

I have had multiple cats treated here and have received nothing but the best treatment from everyone involved! They truly love and care for animals and are very compassionate. My most recent visits with my cat Sammy have been very difficult as his tests show nothing is wrong but he has stopped eating several times. They have given me many options and ideas on how to help my boy, I wouldnt think of going anywhere else.

Very caring and professional staff. Dr. Morrissey always remembers our pets. She has been wonderful to us, through good times and bad..They have helped our cats recover from various illnesses. And unfortunately we have lost two pets over the years, and the hospital staff always has a genuine sense of compassion-- when the tragic (yet inevitable) happens, they always make it just a little bit easier...

Stopped taking my pets here after 6 years! Over priced. Judgmental. And today I brought one of my kittens in to check if he had a broken leg & got turned away because they had no more appts & because if it is broken, they cant treat it because it happened so long ago- approx 9 hrs ago. I will never go back here.

Ive always had positive experiences bring my cat here. The nurses are personable and connect with Shadow and myself. The doctors have always been caring and honest. Ive been bringing Shadow here his whole life, almost 13 years now and they always provide quality care at a fair price.
