I am new to town and I needed a vet for my 2 dogs. I found this place on Google and I liked their website. I took my dogs there for nail trims. The vet tech, (heavy set lady) seemed completely normal during the check in, however, once she started the procedure...I changed my mind. My little dog has always been fussy while getting her nails trimmed, but the vet tech was REALLY overreacting to my dog...She was yelling "HEY! YOU BEHAVE! YOURE A BAD DOG, I WILL BE BAD RIGHT BACK" at the top of her lungs in a harsh ruff tone. She was holding he down and yelling while trimming. I have never seen anyone cut nails like that, and I have had dogs for 25 years. As you can imagine, this upset my dog even more. Then my larger dog had his turn...this was way worse. She treated him so bad he pooped and peed everywhere...and she cut him so every nail was bleeding. I had the worst experience ever! It sucks because I never even met the Vet. The tech left such a bad taste in my mouth, I will never trust anyone from that office.

Ive taken my basset to the Pet Medical Center of Ames for a few months (vaccines, heart worm preventative and treatment, flea and tick preventative and general health checkups). However, I just called to schedule a followup check up and the girl couldnt even find him on the boarding record list from when he stayed to get his heartworm treatment. On another occation I went in for a booster per the request of the vet. When I got there they didnt even have my appointment on record, but squeezed me in with a vet Id never met before. Due to the lack of communication between my vet and the front desk staff, this new vet had no idea what my dog needed. Luckely I did and eventually she agreed to do the booster and she also did the heart worm test that essentially saved my dogs life. I might of stayed because of the great care the new vet gave, but Im afraid this might be the last straw.

Great Veterinary Clinic. I dont know what these people are talking about. I have taken five of my pets to PMC of Ames and they have always received great care. I had a 16 1/2 year old cat that I had had since I was 7 and that had renal failure and an infection. They did everything they could to treat the infection and try and make her as comfortable as possible in her last days. When it got the point that it was best to put my cat down, they told me. There was no talking down to me and no sugar coating the situation, just facts, and that is what I wanted. Now, I take my current cats there and they always receive excellent care. This is the one of the best veterinary clinics I have even patronized.

I took my kitten that I had adopted 2 days before that to this vet for a checkup. She did a terrible job. She didnt listen to his heart, told me that he was just a little skinny but other than that was in perfect condition. I had to put my kitten down 4 days later, 6 days after I got him, because he had so many problems. He had fluid surrounding his heart, he had ulcers, and a lung partially collapsed just to name a few problems. But the vet assured me he was fine. If she wouldve done a more thorough exam I might have been able to save my kitten. I will never take any animal back there and I will never recommend this vet to anyone

The people were really friendly. I took my cat Butters there but the pricing is just so crazy high. I also didnt like the fact that the pricing was never accurate to what they said over the phone and things just kept piling onto my bill. I went in for a neuter exam and shots which was supposed to be $86---then he just gets shots for $119! and Im told hes getting neutered in 2 weeks and its gonna cost $140! Im a college student and definitely not made of money.

PMC has always been top notch. Efficient appointments, good at handling our dog, always available to answer questions. Made getting medications easy. Even when we moved to Des Moines we would still make the trip back up to go to PMC. Now that weve moved they got us our pet records right away and told us what needed to be done at the new vet. The staff is helpful and Dr. Rizzo is an oddball but knows dogs 100%, I hope there is a vet of her caliber around here.

Look somewhere else for your pet needs. This place was rude, and quite unprofessional. Not mention way overpriced. The "Dr." that saw me was unhelpful and seemed more concerned about entertaining the girl shadowing him. Dr. Rizzo wasnt any more pleasant to deal with. I will not be trusting this place again.

I love the staff and doctors here! They took very good care of my cat and dog. We used to board our cat here all the time. They helped do laser treatments on my dogs leg after her surgery.
