If you care about your pet, please take them to a family owned vet business or private practice. I have never had a good experience with Banfield. My GF and I recently bought a puppy and brought him home and he was very lethargic and kept getting sick. We thought maybe it was normal for the puppy who was 10 weeks to take a bit to get used to his new home. The next day came and he was acting the same so my GF decided to take him in to get checked out. (He had just seen the vet 5 days prior to this had received his appropriate shots, and was A-OK.) My GF and her Mom go in to speak with the vet who right away said shes very concerned with the dog, says he has fluid in his lungs, and tells my GF and her Mother that she doesnt think hes going to make it. Says for them to run tests and give him appropriate medicine it will be well over $700 so we should take him back and "exchange him" or receive our money back. She was devastated, called me crying and we couldnt believe it, we thought he was going to die. So we bring him back to Petland where we had purchased him and showed the very nice lady the huge report the vet and Banfield had typed up and explained to her what she said and how she didnt think hes going to make it. She immediately downplayed the situation, calmed us down, and explained to us that yes she can tell hes having trouble breathing and that hes very congested, but shes going to put him in a nebulizer, and start running an IV to get him fluids and simply says the Puppy has a cold, but shes going to take care of it. This was a week ago now and our Bichon/lhasa apso boy Rocky is doing just fine. The staff at Petland has done more than we ever imagined to ease us of the terrible situation we seemed to have come across. She could not believe that the Vet at Banfield would put the fear of God into our puppy without even doing something as simple as trying to reduce his temp but just told us she was "sorry there was nothing she could do." She also explained to us that shes has a few friends that are vets and one previously worked for Banfield and could not believe the pressure there to drive sales and revenue vs. making sure everyones pets are cared for as they should be. I apologize for the long post but I just want people to really consider where they take their pets. We thought our puppy had no hope because of the people at Banfield and we were devastated. Luckily we did what we needed to do and Rocky is going to be just fine. Its worth noting that this is not my first bad experience with Banfield and now that I know they are purely sales driven, my past experiences all make sense now. I had a Golden puppy that I had put on there wellness plan and every single time I brought him in they were wanting me to run tests and give him shots that did not need to be given. So again, please take the time to do some research before you bring your pet here because I would not recommend Banfield to anyone who cares about there pet.

Not impressed at all. After my dog was spayed, the vet literally didnt say one word to me when I went to pick her up. She saw me standing in the waiting area and walked into another room to see a patient (dog) and didnt wave, smile, nod nothing. The front desk staff discussed the surgery, prescribed meds, and gave the discharged orders. I saw the vet 2-3 times while I waited for my puppy and she didnt have the decency to simply say hello or give me 60 seconds of her time to say the surgery went well. During my first visit, I heard the vet tell a staff member that my 16 week old pup (at the time of the first visit) was crazy. I also had to clean the examination room we were in as it had dog hair on the table with clumps of hair on the floor. Clearly a sign that room was not cleaned after the last dog left. I saw some cleaning wipes in the room and cleaned the table and floor myself. So needless to say that first visit didnt sit well with me. I attempted to give the vet and this clinic another try as I wanted to be sure I was being reasonable and flexible. Not to mention, the vet is fairly young so I figured perhaps she was unaware she shouldnt talk about her patients in public. That perhaps shes not aware that she shouldnt have negative thoughts about her patients as it may conflict the the quality of care they should receive from her. I figured I had nothing to lose by giving her another shot because maybe she was having a bad day.....right. Well, after the lack of bedside manners she displayed after my dogs surgery, I decided my dog deserved better care from a vet who genuinely cares about her well being.

My 13-year-old diabetic cat started failing quickly last Friday night. I called our vet on Saturday morning but was told they were completely booked and there was no one available who could euthanize my kitty (I go to a small vet so it was understandable). I watched him suffer through all of Saturday, into Sunday morning. I didnt want to take him to the emergency vet hospital for several reasons, the top two being the prohibitive cost and so many stories of rough handling and lack of empathy. I called Banfield at 8:30 Sunday morning & talked to Cheryl, who immediately went to work trying to work us into a packed schedule. Her voice was kind and empathetic and I could tell she understood what I was going through with my kitty. They got me in within an hour and treated my kitty and I like were the only patients there. They did do an exam, since they had never seen my cat before, and then explained the process of euthanization. When Dr. Gardner came to see us, she did explain that there were tests and treatments that were available if I wanted to go that route, but she understood my decision to not put him through any more pain or suffering but to just let him go peacefully. Everyone there handled my cat with the utmost gentleness and care and when all was said and done, Dr. Gardner teared up & I got a nice hug from Cheryl. Banfields prices may be higher than other vets, but you do pay for the convenience of being open seven days a week and into evening hours. I will continue to take my pets to our own vet, but I know that in a pinch, the Banfield staff is there with gentle empathy and concern.

I have had the Wellness plan for two cats and a Doberman. Over 20 plus years worth of service. My pets receive 6 month checkups and all shot at no cost on the plan. Office visits are free and a discount on other services. They remind me every six months that it is time for the comprehesive exam. My cat lived to be 19 years old. My Doberman was 9 years old when our new landlord told us we could not keep her on his property (but thats another story) Doberman Rescue Alliance of WI took her to be adopted to a new family. They were amazed at how healthy and active she was. She is now in her new home and is 12 years old. My current cat just turned 15 years old and is very healthy. Banfield is a good place to bring your pets for care. The wellness plan has three levels and a monthly payment (NO deductable). When we got the pets we had the highest level for the first year, because they needed to be neutered or spayed. We were allowed to lower the coverage during the young healthy years and when a pet unexpectedly needed surgery the staff allowed us to increase our coverage to receive the increased discount. Banfield has not been perfect, a few times I was not happy, but they have done a great job keeping my pets healthy and to me that is what counts. Banfield has been good for my pets and I would recommend them to a friend.
