A year or so ago, I brought my cat in for a check up as she was going to the bathroom outside of the box. The vet did a urine sample and also found that she needed her anal glands expressed. During this appointment I was disappointed with the vets attitude and demeanor. She was aggressive and rude in the visit room and pretty much yelled at me that my cat would need to be sedated for the anal gland expression (as if it is my fault my cat doesnt like the vets fingers up her butt??). I picked her up from her short stay, paid my bill and brought her home. Unfortunately, for the next few months she continued to have litter-box issues. After months of frustration, I brought her back in to see if she needed her glands expressed again. Turns out she didnt, but they did do another urine test to see if it was a urinary infection. Results came back positive and they recommended I put my cat on prescription food. When I picked up the prescription food and was asking questions if this was temporary or if she would need to be on the food forever (typically I feed my cats grain free so I wasnt super excited about feeding her prescription food with grains and byproducts), I was told she would need to be on the food forever since she has had a urinary tract infection for months. WHAT? This came as quite the surprise to me because the previous time I had brought her in, I was never told the results of the urine test and was under the impression only her anal glands were irritated (I assumed if they didnt mention anything - it was fine!). So long story short, my poor cat had an untreated UTI for months because the incompetent staff here failed to tell me the results of the urinary test and failed to provide treatment. Theres no way I just didnt hear them tell me about this - because prescription food is really their only solution to this type of urinary tract issue and no where in my notes do they recommend I put her on the food (i checked). If you do decide to go to this vet - I would exclusively see the male vet as I remember my previous experience with him being far superior to the woman (who I also believe is the owner). That being said, I suggest you bring your pet elsewhere.

This is not a comment about the quality of health care, which Im sure is fine. We brought a dog to this clinic for dental services as directed by the rescue group we were adopting him from. Wed already brought him to our own vet for health exam, bloodwork, etc. When my husband dropped the dog off, the admitting tech recommended that blood work be done, which would be charged to us. (The dental work was charged to the rescue group, which is why we were there in the first place.) My husband refused but the tech continued to insist, telling him it was a good opportunity to draw blood, while the dog was under. He tried to tell her we used our own vet for these services but she talked him into it, resulting in a charge for bloodwork that was totally unnecessary. Our own vet had performed all the profiles two weeks prior. I called the clinic when I heard about it (after I got off work in the afternoon) but it was too late, the work had been done and we had to pay for it. When I picked our dog up, they didnt give me a paper bill, just told me the charge. I had to ask for the results on paper or they wouldnt have bothered to give them to me. Im still angry about this several days later. The techs that we dealt with were unwilling to listen and then unwilling to address our issue. We were clearly swept out the door when they knew we wouldnt be back.

I took my cat to Uptown Veterinarian for the last five years of his life and the entire team is wonderful to work with. They were always so good to him and looked out for his best interest. When we found the tumor on the bottom of his tongue, they were very thorough at explaining what was happening and what the options were. They looked out for my cat’s well being, quality of life and patiently helped me do the right thing for him. When he was starting to struggle to eat, it was time to put him to sleep and they were all accommodating when I couldn’t stop crying and let me stay with him as long as I needed to, let me say goodbye at my own speed. A couple days later, a sympathy card came in the mail and all of them signed it. I found that to be a total class act. Also, if you have pain medication left after your furry friend dies, they have a system set up to let you donate it to animals with owners who can’t afford it. A couple things I noticed right away when I started taking my cat there was they all truly appreciate animals. They have a separate cat waiting room and dog waiting room. The building is an old house and my cat felt at home right away. This is the best vet I ever took him to. I only wish they could have been his provider the whole time I had the pleasure of his company.

I cant say enough good things about Dr. Smith and her team. This is the second pug I have had under Dr. Smiths care, and each of them has had significant health issues.Theyve been consistently fair, reasonable, willing to work with me on care management for long-term health concerns, and great with my dogs. Dr. Smith provides basic care and surgeries, and has referred me to others for special opthalmological and chiropractic care for my dogs. My last series of visits was for a life-threatening emergency. My dog was seen FAST, treated well, and everyone was so willing to help me with learning to catheterize him over the weekend when my only other option was the emergency vet. Great follow-up, always gets back to me quickly. Doesnt try to brush you off or make money by "add-ons." Reasonable cost, excellent quality basic care. Very nice people, too.

I am so grateful for those who wrote a review before me. Because of you I chose Uptown vet and my Italian Greyhound had her first appointment today. Everything that was said here is true! It was such a calm, homey atmosphere. She is our first pet, so it was our first vet experience. But, I see the vets at the pet stores and they are totally different. Right when I walked in we were greeted and the staff showed genuine interest in me and my doggy. Dr. Smith also treated us kindly. She shared her knowledge and answered my questions, so I left knowing how to clean my IGs teeth:). She is friendly and down to earth. I live in Brooklyn Center and pass many vets to get here, but they make it worth the time and travel. Also very reasonably priced! Thank You Uptown Vet, you guys rock! ~Amber

Despite the fact that the vets were friendly and seemed knowledgeable, this office performed several tooth extractions on our chihuahua WITHOUT doing x-rays as part of a cleaning. They left exposed roots, which caused our dog an incredible amount of pain. We finally took him to the University of Minnesota to fix the shoddy dental work they had done. Upon doing so, we also found that the ultrasound they had performed at UV (for an unrelated heart condition) had not been done by a board certified technician, though they charged the same and insisted that it was to the same standard as the University of Minnesota. Dont take your pets here, especially for anything beyond the basics.
