If I could give them no stars I would. I brought my German Shepherd there when she had lost all bladder control. They did blood work and took an xray. I was told that her liver and spleen were greatly enlarged and that her calcium levels were elevated. All of these are indicative of cancer. This was my first visit to this new vet so I told her I wanted a second opinion. She insisted on doing needle biopsies since the next doctor would need them. I reluctantly agreed (being fairly convinced at that point that my beautiful girl had cancer). By the time these doctors were through I had paid them roughly $1,700 in a week. The vet put my dog on steroids for the bladder issue. At this point, I made an appt with the head of internal medicine at UPenn. Thank God I did. It turns out that there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with my dog. Unfortunately I had to wait three weeks to find this out since the steroids would screw up the determining blood work. Dr. Callan at UPenn (best doctor Ive ever had one of my dogs to) had the UPenn radiologists look at the xrays from Family Vet. The UPenn radiologist said my dogs liver and spleen were normal size for the breed. So first Dr. Boote didnt know what she was looking at when she looked at the xray and told me my dogs liver and spleen were greatly enlarged, second, she screwed up the blood work because the calcium levels were normal both times Upenn checked them and Dr. Callan said it was impossible for the calcium level to be so high one week and normal the next. Third, they did unnecessary biopsies on my dog AND when they were informed that they completely misdiagnosed my dog and put me though hell they didnt even offer to refund any of the money I paid them. STAY AWAY FROM THESE VETS.

During a routine visit, the vet noticed that my dog had broken the tip off of one of her big upper molars. She told me that the pith was showing, and that my poor dog needed major surgery to remove the tooth. It would leave her unable to chew on that side, and would require going through a lot of bone. No other option was given, and she told me that my dog could get a serious infection in the tooth if I didnt have the surgery. I was so upset that I wanted a second opinion. I called U. Penn vet, and they have a team of veterinary dentists. They said since I had such a long drive, that they would schedule a surgical appointment based on my vets statement that the tooth would have to be removed. If they could save it with a root canal, they would try that first. I got a call from them, saying that they didnt need to do anything! The pith wasnt exposed at all!! Family Vet of Montague was going to mutilate my poor dog for no reason! I dont care if it was due to greed or incompetence, you just dont do that! Dont take your dog here.

Recently, we moved out of the area and Dr. Z. spent extra time preparing us for the long trip from Montague to Florida with two cats. Dr. Zaccone is one of the most caring and compassionate veterinarians I have ever used for my pets medical care. The name of her practice is what attracted me to them, and it is a true definition of how they treat my pets! Like family! The staff is also very friendly and always helpful.
