When living in Rochester I took my two dogs for checkups and was pleased with Irondequoit Animal Hospital. It was not until I had a true emergency with my little Boston terrier that I truly appreciated their phenomenal service. On a Saturday, fully booked with appointments my dog was squeezed in for xrays and diagnosed with a possible obstruction. I was counseled on my options (surgery or medical management), fully informed of prices, and finally I asked if it was your dog what would you do?" They recommended surgery. I trusted their professional judgement and rather then waiting they skipped their lunch and performed the 2.5 hour surgery. I was updated throughout the procedure on his prognosis which was not good as his obstruction had perforated his intestines. I was given every option and price point yet again and I decided to continue with the surgery despite the odds. Post surgery he was sent to a 24/hour animal hospital where after a week of treatment he recovered. I fully credit Irondequoit animal hospital for saving my dogs life. They could have told me they were booked for Saturday, they could have told me they were too busy to perform surgery, they could have said lets wait until Monday. They did not. They did what they would have done for their own animal (and did it well!) and I cant thank them enough. I have my Boston Terrier home and its because of their skill and compassion.

I will preface my critique with saying, Toeby our 7yo cockapoo & 10yo cat, Bucky have been provided the best of care by clinicians & staff at IAH. When theres a concern, they are always available to provide care & advice for our pets & will always follow-up with phone calls. We have a high degree of trust in their competence. I will say, however, that in the interest of the animals & the companys bottom line, I believe there is a tendency to "upsell" costly services such as teeth cleaning. Although I acknowledge ancillary services may be in the best interest of my pets, I used to be torn about having to say, "No" due to my budgetary constraints. I suggest researching, as I have done, the critical need for such & make a decision based on independent info which relieves the guilt-factor. Veterinary services, in general, are expensive & necessary, but as with our own health, sometimes we are forced to prioritize expenditures. This having been said, I do recommend IAH highly as well as suggest that you become an active, vocal member of your pets medical team as you would your own which helps when youre faced with decisions or a crisis!

I have always taken my pets to Irondequoit Animal Hospital. They have excellent doctors, techs, and staff. Most recently my dog woke up one morning and couldnt walk. I took her to a local emergency vet and spent 6 hours there (and a ton of money) to be told that had no answers for me. I went home and called my vet, IAH in tears. Dr. ONeill called me at 9 at night, after having a very long day, she still took the time to call me. When I told her my dogs symptoms she told me to come in first thing the next morning. Within 3 minutes she had my dog diagnosed. She came up with a game plan to help my dog, helped calm my fears, and gave me hope. She was very thorough and informative. Colleen who works there walked me out of the office and hugged me and also helped to ease my mind. They answered all my silly questions when I called a million times and never once made me feel like I was being a pest. Not only are the people at Irondequoit Animal Hospital compassionate and caring towards the pets that come in, they are also that way with the people that come in. I will never go anywhere else.

We noticed a lump on the hind leg of our boxer (Julius) and brought him to see Dr. Cacia and have it looked it. He drew samples and concluded it was a mass cell tumor. He said that they could operate, but with the location we recommended us having it looked at by a specialist. We took Julius to get 2 more opinions and promptly returned back to Dr. Cacia to have him perform the surgery. He was by far the most helpful doctor we spoke with, the others werent as personable. The surgery was completed without incident and we came back weekly as instructed by Dr. Cacia. Great great great guy and a true animal lover!! We have since been back for a routine check up and was seen by Dr. ONeil. She too was very personable, and was very happy to see Julius. She even mentioned that she heard about his surgery from Dr. Cacia and proceeded to check out her fellow doctors work. Julius is always happy to go see his friends at the Irondequoit Animal Hospital!! Would recommend Dr. Cacia and Dr. ONeil to anyone looking for a great veterinary hospital.

I would strongly caution all people of color and Hispanics to find another vet either in the city or one that is diverse in both staff and class. I and my wife both live in irondequoit and have experienced on several occasions a complete lack of respect, racism and utter disregard for people of color and Hispanics alike when servicing both us and our pets. IVE seen on several occasions the staff smile genuinely when servicing caucasians then frown, deliberately take their time even smurk when servicing us. The outright arrogance they display when thumbing their noses at us after pocketing so much of our hard earned money in their deep pockets is outright disrespectful. Take note that they arent the only business in irondequoit that discriminates nor will they be the last but I believe we as a people have an responsibility to our people to choose where and with whom we collectively spend our dollars. In short stop spending with those that don’t want anything to do with u or your people !“

Irondequoit Animal Hospital has been our only choice for all of our beloved animals since our first visit in 1993. The spotless facility and caring knowledgeable staff have been a joy to work with for all these many years. Drs Andrea Straka and Kathryn ONeill have guided us through every stage of our pets needs, from first puppy and kitten visits through the pain of having to finally say goodbye when that time inevitably came. We have come to rely on them comfortable in the knowledge that they put their clients and patients first and have their best interests always at heart. Their commitment and willingness to participate in long term research shows their dedication to helping all animals lead healthier lives. Whenever a friend is looking for a new Veterinarian, we never hesitate to recommend Irondequoit Animal Hospital. Keith & Leigh Collins

My little loving and loved Jack Russell is now dying of Lyme disease induced Stage IV kidney failure; its horrible; despite years of discussing with them my dogs tick bite problems which cause the disease from my walks with them at Durand Park (keep your dog away from there or any wooded area frequented by deer). I didnt think they were infected because they didnt seem to generally have signs which is the case in 95% of dogs until the final deadly stages. IAH never suggested testing, I think maybe didnt know the high prevalence of the disease or they also told me they thought heart worm testing also detected Lyme disease (it does not). IAH is totally unwilling to either refund any of my useless visits there which were not cheap nor help me to try to save her when I feel it was their fault she was never diagnosed nor treated in time
