I was going to give him four stars and discuss only the bad parts of his practice, because he seems like a caring and honest individual. I cannot afford insurance and he was kind enough to refill my prescription for years. However, due to poor living conditions in the city I was forced to move. When in my new place, with a new job and more financial responsibility, I discovered my prescription for my emergency inhaler ran out. I called his personal number since he wasnt at the office and this was an emergency. He said he would take care of it, I went a dangerous night without a rescue inhaler. The next day I called the pharmacy and was told the doctor wouldnt refill it and I need to get a doctor locally. I cannot afford to see a doctor locally so I called again, I explained that I cannot go another night without medicine as people who know asthma know that it can kill you at a moments notice. I was told he would refill the prescription and he asked for the pharmacy number. Its nearly 7 hours later and the pharmacy doesnt have the approval for a refill. This doctor is not only neglectful, but a liar. He should be avoided at all cost. I didnt want to believe he is money hungry and maybe once he wasnt, but this is unacceptable as Ill be spending the night in the ER because of a doctor who doesnt deserve to be one.

If you could give 0 stars I would. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!! I went in with chest pains and he told me it was a sore muscle in my ribs. Im okay with a doctor giving a wrong diagnosis but he did not do a thorough check-up on me at all. First - instead of getting right to the point as Im having trouble breathing he wanted to know my life story which is fine for someone with a scrape but I had been in pain for two days. Then when he finally asked me why I came to him - he didnt mean he wanted to know what was wrong with me he wanted to know how I found them for advertising purposes I assume. Long story short after barely checking me for signs of bruising or anything like that he gave me the definite diagnosis of a strained muscle. I told him I was concerned it was a blood clot because of the birth control I recently began taking and he assured me the it "definitely was NOT a blood clot" Anyway I was in the ER the next day with a blood clot in my lungs and spent the next four days in the hospital. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. HE JUST WANTS YOUR COPAY AND YOUR INSURANCE MONEY. Oh and the only take cash or personal check. and the place looks like its infested with bugs.

I chose this doctor because he was very close to my house and accepted my insurance. I needed to get in to see someone quickly and he had me come in that day. It was a mistake. While he is a very friendly guy, the practice is a disaster. The office is digustingly dirty. I mean used syringes in an overflowing cardboard box on the floor dirty. They are unorganized and antiquated. The receptionist is the most miserable, rude, impatient, pathetic excuse for a professional I have ever had to deal with. And I work with govt employees! I walked out of there wanting to choke this woman and I am not a violent person. There are no computers, only stacks of loose papers everywhere. The exam table is duct-taped together and there was a pile of used sanitary paper that they use to protect the table in the corner. Not to mention the doctor told me I was perfectly healthy just by looking at me. I had to insist that he run tests. These are only the highlights of this experience. The lists of problems with this practice goes on and on.

This Doctor is a strong Doctor. Not a pretty office setting but he gives you the attention and focus that makes up for anything an office can provide. Some Doctors have a great office but cant communicate with their patients and never give them what they want, so you leave feeling unsatisfied. Id rather have the communication and my needs met. This Doc gets to the point and finds exactly why your there and what it is you want. And then if he can, he gives it to you. In and out in 40 minutes, unless you want to chat, most of the time can be seen that same day. What else do you want in a Doctor, right? This guy is respectful. He does not disapoint.

When I moved back to Philly from N.Y. I needed a Dr. WELL let me tell you that this is one great Dr. and Human! He is the old fashioned type that really cares about people. You can walk in no appt, takes the time to care about you and this is no corporation fighting with insurance, never seeing the same Doc and waiting for hours like your time isnt valuable. Dr. Lichtman is by far the best....even makes house calls if needed...WHAT?? Yep sign in his window...Maura his assistant is just so sweet and the whole experience of going to the Dr. Is more than comfy...

Ive live in Philadelphia for 40 years and finally....FINALLY...have found a PCP who makes himself available on a day when I need to see him! I was tired of using urgent care facilities because my previous doctors couldnt see me until a day or 2 after I called them. Dr Lichtman and his office are "old school" and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact thats why I like him (and his assistant Maura is the sweetest person Ive ever encountered)

We are two old guy Managing Partners and two young executives and each of us loves Dr. Joe The man really cares about his customers and takes time to understand what our various medical issues are. Then there is Maura, the wonderful young woman who runs his office. She greets us with a smile and makes dealing with the medical industry so much easier.
