This hospital, particularly the ER, should be ashamed to treat patients the way they do when theyre supposed to be a Christian facility. I went here on a Friday, 11 weeks pregnant and bleeding, panicked, and waited 5-6 hours for the doctor to finally pleasantly tell me Id miscarried. Apparently, they dont allow the ultrasound tech to tell the patient if the baby is ok, because when I asked her about it she said she could lose her job if she told me and we had to wait even longer to talk to the doctor. Thats a ridiculous policy. We finally were able to leave, completely ignorant as to what to expect when the baby came. The next day contractions started coming, the pain was so bad that we called an ambulance. I could hardly walk or drink or anything besides screem. The ambulance took me back, and the hospital staff would not help me. We had to go to the waiting room, despite that wed been there for hours only the day before and I was in agony-so much so that everyone was staring at me as I begged for help. We ended up at a premier ER and now have to pay out of pocket because our insurance doesnt cover them, but at least Premier ER was willing to help a woman who was in the middle of losing her child. The doctor at Premier had to call Christus Spohn South just for them to be willing to hurry up and treat me, and we went back. Their only saving grace were the nurses who showed such compassion as our dead baby came. Also, before I went to the ER the day before, I tried to go to my OBGYN there, whose office was supposed to be opened for another hour. I got there at four, she was supposed to be there til 5. Tried calling, no answer. Went up there and without explanation, not even a sign on the door, everyone was gone. Being at this hospital was the worst experience of my life.

Wife had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic prescribed to her and we were worried it would turn into breathing difficulties or choking. We went to the er and were admitted into Triage after about 45 minutes. The Triage nurses asked some questions and gave her some pills for the allergic reaction. They said they wanted to monitor her and sent us into the waiting room. In about 3 hours, give or take a little bit, they called us into the small room beside the Triage station and her prescription was changed, they checked a few things and we were sent on our way. Not sure where the monitoring of her condition took place because we were in the waiting room the whole time. Not once did we go beyond the door to enter into the ER itself. After such a situation and so little care you dont expect to get charged for a whole ER visit. Especially when you never made it into the back, but thats exactly what happened. The most negative thing I have about this whole experience is just the way that everyone was handled. The waiting room was packed to the gills and there were people who were genuinely scared and afraid. "They," were some of the people that were there waiting when we got there and still waiting when we left. It just felt like the hospital was treating us and the rest of the people more like cattle in a holding pen rather than people. The least Spohn could do since everyone has to wait so long would be to get more comfortable chairs. If this is the state of the medical system in the US as a whole Im dreading ever having to go to the Dr. or hospital ever again. Especially if the care is as poor as it was on this day. Beware of the ER here, the actual hospital side may be great. As for the ER, Id recommend trying another hospital before coming back here.

The very first minute began with me being made to feel unwanted there, unconcerned, and very very mean and rude staff I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL AGAIN OR ANY AFFILIATED WITH THIS CHAIN! "Why are you here this is an ER not a Dr office you need to keep a Dr appointment" Was THE FIRST SENTENCE from the nurses mouth." My husband and I were scared, upset, hurt and offended and are being asked to pay for unexplainable assessments. . I went for chest pains and heart murmurs when I moved to Corpus and just got my insurance. I hadnt been established at a Dr office yet so they suggested because of my symptoms go to the ER. I had a past of rapid heart rate and chest pains due to hyperthyroidism and possible graves disease in the past. I saw the rudest nurse on earth that said " This is an Emergency room why are you coming here and not going to a Drs office- mind you this was on a Saturday.I explained the situation above and then a nurse pract. came in and said the same " This isnt a Dr office its an ER" and told me he didnt know why i had these symptoms and prescribed me BETA BLOCKERS- contradictory of his comment that my heart rate and blood pressure were better than his. the practitioners that seen me were named "Yusef" or " Ghararian" but I only seen one nurse practitioner. I asked to see a Dr but he wasnt available. No offense nothing against practs but I would have asked anyone else for a second opinion that said " Im not sure why you are having chest pains. I have blue cross-a very expensive plan- and still am getting 1500 dollar bill for the ten minuts I spoke to a nurse pract. I conclude- Never go to Christus Spohn is.

My husband was in the icu thanksgiving week. He was partially sedated most of the time and intubated. We could not have asked or hoped for a more caring, professional, helpful and efficient staff. Everyone from his specialists, nurses, aids, techs and housekeeping were outstanding. Everyone at the spohn south icu was an absolute blessing during a very stressful time. They took wonderful care of his medical and physical and even his emotional needs. Below is a photo of my husbands "thanksgiving meal" cans of liquid for his feeding tube. Such a nasty thing to go through but they took the time to decorate a tray to bring the cans in just to cheer him up. Very special people in the icu we want to thank each and every one that worked that week.

I just recently had same-day surgery at Sphon South, and I must say what EXCELLENT service I received at this hospital! I was very impressed from the start at my pre-admission, to my post-op recovery and discharge at this facility. I want to thank Judy, who works in pre-admission. Her smile, cherfullness, and professionalism was outstanding. (We need more people like her!) I work in the medical profession, as a nurse (who can be the WORST patients and Drs as well), and I can say that the nurses, doctors, and anesthesia put my mind at ease (plus all the drugs they we giving me). The whole process from start to finish was a great experience. Thanks Sphon! Keep up the great work!

This is the WORST ER!!! Arrived at 9:55....walked out at 2:20 (estimating)...went directly to the drs office. When I asked to have the IV pulled the triage nurse sat in the chair. She provided no words of comfort nor medical advise. Awful ....awful. ...awful. ..experience. I will never go there again nor will I recommend this ER. As a matter of fact, current GP is associated with them and I am currently looking to finding a doctor not associated with this hospital. In addition to, the main number to make appointments...aweful. You have to wait more than 10 minutes. There is NO direvt line to speak with your GP nor the office personell. Poor proces.
