My surgery and short stay in Via Christi St. Joseph was a memorable experience. Everyone I met was professional, positive minded, confident and encouraging, My day shift recovery nurse was a real blessing. I think she is spiritually a healing person. This means her core intent and basic impulse as a person is lovingly to heal, assist healing, promote healing, without being invasive. I could feel her intent through her hand on my back as she helped me to take my first steps out of bed. As a registered nurse she was firm without being mean like ole miss fussbudget. I wanted to take her home with me. The food they sent up to me has ruined me for the real world. My first meal out of the hospital was bland and not satisfying compared to the food I received at the hospital. My subjective opinion of the food is that it is almost at the Chilis restaurant level. Yep, I mean that. Next, When I pushed the "Call" button a nurse or helper responded quickly. Everyone who entered the room had a good attitude, including the cleaning people who were very nice. I did have a less comfortable feeling coming from the male nurse on the night shift but I figured this was because we males are not as nurturing as females, especially females who are mothers, and because as a child I responded more quickly to my mother than I did my father. Of visiting and visitors: when I was taking my first few faltering steps down the hall I discovered a large family in the day room. A man napped on the floor next to a baby sleeping on a blanket while women sat in chairs. When I asked about visiting hours I was told there were no rigid, fixed hours. In other words, a visitor could stay all night if he or she wanted. My summary is this: if you need to go to the hospital, then Via Christi St. Joseph is certainly a good place to go. We pay a lot for hospital services through Medicare, other insurances, and cash copays. Via Christi St. Joseph makes the cost seem not so bad. And in passing, when I was at Via Christi St. Francis emergency room a few months ago, they too were excellent.

I never had a chance to express my gratitude to your staff at this facility. I came to you right after my seventeenth birthday in 2002 when I was 26 weeks pregnant and in labor. Though there was nothing that could be done to stop the labor and delivery due to the large hematoma that had formed in the umbilical cord, your nurses, chaplains, and physicians did everything they could to make me feel as comfortable as possible. At that time I was a high school drop out working fast food with no hope for my future. Your prayers for healing helped me find my true calling as a nurse. A gift I have not taken lightly. At this time I am a psych nurse and still working toward my BSN with four healthy babies. In memory of the little girl I have lost I do this job with pride just as all of you did for me. With all the love, admiration, and respect in the world, thank you for the difference you made to me. Nothing you guys do is in vain. I just wish that back then I was able to articulate my gratitude to you a little better.

Ive been going to St Joe for several years now. I went in for severe knee pain Ive been experiencing that hadnt gotten any better. Ive tried to scheduled dr appointments for WEEKS. So when I injured my knee while at work, I went to st Joe because it accepts my insurance. I had to explain what was wrong SIX times because anytime someone came in to see me, they were saying something completely different from what I had told them. I told them it had been going on for months, and they ignored me. They sent me for an X-ray and gave me some pain killers. All they told me was, "Well its not broken" and discharged me. Worst ER Ive ever been to. Ive been discharged about 24 hours and the pain has gotten worse along with the swelling and they apparently couldnt even do anything. They wrapped it and sent me home. My knee wasnt even examined. I would give this hospital less than 1 star if I had the opportunity. This hospital has only gotten worse.

Ive always usedthis ER, after theyve changed things i will never be back. ZERO privacy for starters, you could see straight into my room from the 2nd waiting room, while i was undressed, i told them over and over iwas in sever pain during my miscarriage and all they gave me was some hot packs till i finally asked for medicine. After my sonogram a guy camein my room and said "get your clothes on and go wait in the waiting room for your results"... HORRIBLE WAY TO ADRESS SOMEONE WHOS SCARED AND IN PAIN also... I was hooked to an IV... I still am as I sit here in the waiting room writing this... I did the best i could to get dressed while hooked up and go to the waiting room with my pants unbuttoned... HOW EMBARASSING!?!?!?!? Then they tried toco.e get me for a chest xray... Only to find out they had the wrong person!!!!!!!

Had an awful experience at St.Joe, while family member was in the ER. Patients room was very hot and was told that there was nothing they could do despite the patient sweating profusely. Patient needed a pillow for leg that had been operated on recently and was told that they didnt have many pillows and had to wait until the next shift to get one. The nurse which was denying the patient things to make them comfortable was extremely rude and acted as if any requests made by the patient were just a complete bother to her. Not to mention the hours and hours of waiting for a specific department to come evaluate the patient. 12 hours in the ER and still not many answers or help. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

Not recommended for surgical patients. Their method of transferring patients to their bed after surgery is excruciatingly painful. It could be considered abuse. It shouldnt be that way. There are methods of transfer that dont cause pain. You can also hear other patients crying out in pain. Patients shouldnt be hoarse after surgery. Something is wrong!
