DO NOT GO TO OUTPATIENT SURGERY They were running 3 hours late, we sat in the waiting room with all the other disgruntled patients! Then waited hours for a bed! Inside the outpatient surgery it was nothing but extremely loud horseplay the entire time! I suppose that could explain why I got a SCALDING hot enema! The phelbomist left a giant purple bruise on my arm! After surgery, it is incredibly startling to wake up to all the noise and horseplay and it is extremely painful to be jolted awake every few minutes by the ruckus! The outpatient surgery area was like being in a school bus full of 12-15 olds! I asked for pain medication 3 times and the rude nurse said "I cannot control your pain" WHAT??? I needed the bedpan 4 times within an hour. The first time I asked, they took their time, but after they had to clean my soaking wet bed they were pretty prompt. And the very worst part was the nurses kept telling me to get up, get up, they wanted to go home! I was forced to sit up in a chair with excruciating pain and when my friend picked me up, I could not walk so she got a wheelchair and started pushing me out before a nurse helped her. My doctor was very good, however, I will NEVER let anyone take me to that hospital again! Its close to Halloween, maybe it was changed to a haunted hospital for the holiday!!??

Sitting here in the waiting room going on almost fourth hour of waiting to complete pregistration for with a close friend. Horrible service to the patients and people waiting with them. No one tells you to be prepared to spend your entire day waiting and one and a half hours turns into four. If you could go anywhere else please do. If you do not have to have emergency surgery in a hospital take the time to drive to san antonio or austin. There are real doctors there and staff that have proper systems and organization in place to take care of people. Heaven forbid you have to keep up with medications and feeding schedules because no one can tell you when or what the next task is. And to top everything off, this place is a partnership of physician owners who spend no more than 5 minutes with you after keeping you waiting and each doctor gives a different story. Ridiculous but expected for corpus christi unfortunately. But if you must try it for yourself be my guest and be disappointed.

I have had 2 separate bad experiences. When I went in for gallbladder removal I had to have 2 enemas, the second bag was WAY TOO HOT! I felt like my insides were on fire and I had blisters on my bum so I am sure I had blisters inside! The second time I went there for a block in my lower back. The nurse couldnt get my IV in and said it was in on the third try. I have always had an IV bag but she did not put one on this time. My hand was throbbing. I laid there for a couple hours because they were running behind. When I went in the surgery room, my hands were laying on both sides on my head and I was looking at the IV. The doc told her to go ahead and give me the medicine but the IV had a blood clot and she could not get the medicine through! The doc started putting the needle in and I started screaming stop, stop, stop! I was wiggling all around and screaming and it seemed like forever. Now I have excruciating pain in the area that is shooting down my left leg.

I was pleasantly surprised by how professional and courteous the staff at South Texas Surigical Hospital facility was during my recent visit (June 2012) for a routine medical screening procedure. Instead of being treated like a number, I was treated with respect. Almost every employee I met - from the guy driving the courtesy golf cart around the parking lot to the doctor - was attentive, listened to my needs and seemed to value me as a customer. The place was very new and clean. The waiting rom was full of windows and plants and did not have TVs blaring. I was able to find a chair in the corner near an electric outlet where I charged my phone while surfing the net during the 30 minutes or so that I waited. After leaving the waiting room, I went to pre-op and immediately got wheeled into the operating room.

The preregistration process was infuriating. Waited for over 3 hours to complete a health history and get blood drawn. As I sat there I contemplated canceling my surgery and rescheduling my procedure elsewhere. Had I not been so impressed with my surgeon I would have done that, I was that irritated, I had the same experience when I brought my daughter in for surgery 8 months ago. That experience aside everything else was great. The nurses were attentive and efficient, the anesthesiologist was the best Ive ever encountered. I stayed overnight and had great care from the nurses and PCT. The hospital is clean and quiet, if it werent for the preregistration process i would rate it at 5 stars.

Terrible place for day surgery. Made us wait 2 hours for a 10 minute pre-op appointment. Now today, the day of surgery, we have waited over 3 hours for a room to open up. Another friend said they had to wait 5 hours before being called in for their surgery. You cant eat or drink if going into surgery, so you sit and wait and starve. And they dont care or even attempt to explain or apologize. Tell your doctor to choose another place, anywhere but South Texas Surgical Hospital

I have had multiple procedures here. Ive worked in the medical field for 27 years; Im exceptionally picky. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The nurses are intelligent, pleasant and caring. If you had a negative experience here, chances are youre the problem.

Dr and nurses were great. Took over three hours to release my wife after a small procedure and the kitchen staff is very rude. Would not come back if I didnt have to.
