I came into the Kansas Heart Hospital by accident really and they saved my life. I was driving down the road having severe chest pain and trying to find a place to get help. I knew that they were a heart hospital, but I knew that my insurance would probably send me somewhere else. I pulled up and went to the front desk and told them of my predicament and within two minutes I was laying in a bed getting checked over. They gave me some nitro, took an EKG and the pain went away. But then the pain came back and they checked my blood work and gave me an echo and found that I actually was having a heart attack. The lower part of my heart wasnt moving. They took me back for a heart cath and thought that I might need a stint. Upon looking at it though they found that I had massive heart disease and was very close to the "big one". They gave me open heart surgery and I had to have 6 bypasses. Already a week away from the surgery I am at home and doing very well. I spoke to several of the doctors and surgeons and was so impressed with how this hospital works. They built the hospital up from the ground 15 years ago by thinking about the best and most efficient way to take care of the patient. They have four surgical teams that always work together and are very efficient. One of the surgeons told me that when he has to go to another hospital to do a surgery they will give him assistants that sometimes just basically know how to stay sterile. They also set up the hospital with the nurse/patient relationship in mind. In intensive care you have one RN that takes care of two patients and they do everything for you (medicines, baths, dressing you and checking you over). Their goal is to know you very well to give you the best care. Out on the floor its a one to four ratio, but you always still have an RN taking care of you. The nurses are phenomenally caring and have great relationships with their doctors. One of the doctors told me at other hospitals there is one RN to seven, eight or more patients and they take care of the patients by having lots of nurses assistants. He said that hell go to the hospital to inquire about one of his patients and the nurse hasnt even had a chance to see the patient and doesnt even know the patient by name, but only by room number.

I recently took my 3 year old daughter there to their 24 hour emergency room and the doctor told me I came there for a prescription and not to see a doctor. I asked questions about his diagnosis and treatment plan and he did not like that very much and got smart to me. The nurses and everyone else was really kind but the doctor was not.

The care is amazing!!! But the fact that the administrative staff lets their nurses continually and constantly sexually harassed by patients is unacceptable!!! And thats why I am giving this place a 1 star rating
