THIS IS A REAL POST & NOT A FAKE 5 STAR POSTED BY EMPLOYEES! Worse VA I have ever been at. First one can hardly ever to get someone to answer the phone it just rings & rings & No one will answer the phone! When you finally get someone to answer the phone & they transfer you the extension you want its "at best a 50% chance" someone actually answer the phone there either. Their follow up appointments that are to happen when the doctor order there is a 95% chance you will ever receive an a notice that its that time the doctor ordered them to call me because the doctor wants to see me. 50% of the employees are snotty to Very snotty & act like they are doing you a favor when asking them a question but they know they can treat Vets anyway they want because they know its about impossible to fire them. I even through the years ask doctors why they put up with nasty staff & they all said, do you have any idea how hard its to fire a VA employee no matter how bad they are! Compared to a VA like Coatesville there is no comparison because that VA treats Vets great & dose all they can do for a Vet & want to do it. Unlike the Philly VA medical center its like youre bothering them. Plus you can Never personally talk to your doctor there, other than actually going in person to see the doctor there is no emailing them on myheathvet either. There is no messaging them or talking to their nurse, well, that is because "almost" all of them are Penn doctors there over across the street at Penn U you can actually talk to the same doctors. I could go on but its pointless as this has been going on for 20 years there at the Philly VA hospital & it aint changing, other then words that go nowhere& do nothing! You can kick a dead horse all day long and it is not getting up, its dead! Note, dont get me wrong there are some good there too but the bad just over shadows the good after 20 years of crap!

You go in with a rash that resulted from Iraq exposure 2010,you get an appointment 6 months later 2011 and they say "it does not look that bad, its eczema". However while de-mobbing at an active military base the medical facility physician tells you that you and all Soldiers coming from Iraq has the same rash, you were exposed to bacteria in the sand. However the VA says, just use some moisturizer cream and steroid cream 2011-2015, then your skin gets worse, doctor #1 says you should use steroid cream 3-4 times a week to heal. Doctor number #2 says you used steroid cream too much and it thinned your skin, thats why you bleed if you scratch to hard. All while your skin changes color and they say, its your fault nothings wrong medically. WTF? Thank God for alternative natural cures 2015-2016. They ask me to come back to the VA 3-4 months later and Doctor #3, says "Wow, your skin is no longer scaly, its looking better, looks like our treatment worked". NO, apple cider vinegar treatment, Aveeno Cream and body-washed help aided and assisted me, not you. If you dont have Tricare, no other health insurance and no where else to go, the Philadelphia,VAMC is the only option. Sad, Sad, Sad.....Most employees are rude, ignorant and arrogant, they can care less about veterans, only a pay check (except for the Popcorn man, tall Blackwoman at the front desk in dermatology and the very nice Hispanic woman who you get the copy of your records from). The Veterans Hospital should be Staffed 90% with Veteran Employees. This would assure better customer service because we all have the same commonality. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines taking care of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines.

Overall experience through the years had been average at best, but sufficient for those who are able to receive the needed care at low or no cost. The worst department that I had the misfortune of experiencing just recently would be the ER or Emergency Room. The intake process was fine but once I got to a room with a bed, I didnt see a nurse for more than 35 minutes. This would be understandable if the nurse was busy but she was not. I wont go into details. The doctor was condescending and skeptical of my condition. I felt so uncomfortable and unwelcomed that I ended up walking out. The nurse jokingly reminded me to come back to the ER in the future whenever I like. I immediately went to a civilian hospital where I was found to have an infection from a prostate biopsy that I received from the VAMC. Long story short, ultimately I had to stay in the hospital for a few days due to a bad infection, received some antibiotics intravenously but I was unable to sleep for 3 days due to the persistent migraines which accompanied my iinfection. To be fair to the VAMC Emergency Room staff, it does seem that too many hospitals have obtained a reputation for ignoring the spirit of their Professional Oath. It appears that for a profession that is the highest paid of all professions, generally speaking, many have become far too self-important and cynical in a profession that requires compassion, understanding and priority to the patient.

Review of my Philadelphia VA Hospital experience I am A traveling vet heading to Newark, NJ and then on to Philadelphia, PA. When I realized I had left my insulin at one of my stops along the way. I contacted the Philadelphia VA hospital asking if they could give me enough insulin to get back to my home in Michigan. Their reply was very positive and advised me that I would be accommodated. My immediate impression of the facility upon arrival was very positive. The first person I interacted with couldnt have been more pleasant. She directed me to the emergency room where I was immediately registered as a traveling vet and escorted into a room for vitals and to await my visit with a doctor. Both the triage nurse and the doctor were pleasant and accommodated my needs in a timely fashion. I was supplied with authorization to receive my insulin from the pharmacy. I then proceeded to pharmacy and was greeted by a friendly pharmacy tech who quickly expedited my prescription. In total, the entire time spent at the hospital spanned a whopping 30 minutes. In summary, I would Rate my experience with full stars and based on my experience, would recommend the Philadelphia VA to any traveling vet with similar needs as mine. Thank you, thank you thank you drs and staff of the Philadelphia VA for making my experience so pleasant.

This VA Hospital Is Horrible. The Whole First Floor Smells like Urine because the rest rooms are ALWAYS FILTHY. The Black Women who work there seems like THEY ALL HAVE ATTITUDES. Youre afraid to ask them questions because you feel like you might get into an argument... The Travel Reimbursement runs 5, 6 even 7 Months behind because theyre TO LAZY TO PROCESS THE FORMS... Mean While The BLACK WOMEN who work at Travel Reimbursement? Basically JUST HANG OUT ALL DAY. TALKING LOUD AND CATCHING AN ATTITUDE IF YOU ASK THEM A QUESTION... Hopefully This is my last Year Going to The VA Hospitals.. Once I Get someone to take this Pacemaker out of My Chest? Im going back to driving Tractor Trailers and paying for my Own Private Insurance Again so I can go to a Quality Private Hospital Again... The Veterans Hospital ACROSS AMERICA Have become NOTHING BUT A CLEARINGHOUSE FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYMENT... THE EMPLOYEES THERE MAKE IT A DANGEROUS PLACE TO ENTER... BECAUSE ONCE YOU GET CAUGHT UP INTO THE VA SYSTEM? THESE PEOPLE WILL DESTROY YOUR LIFE AND OR LITERALLY KILL YOU... I SAY STAY AWAY FROM THEM. ITS NOT LIKE IT WAS AFTER WORLD WAR II WHEN THE EMPLOYEES AND DOCTORS ACTUALLY CARED FOR VETERANS. TODAYS VA EMPLOYEES ARE JUST THERE FOR 20 YEARS AND A PENSION, AND NOT ASHAMED OR AFRAID TO THROW THAT FACT IN THE VETERANS FACES...
